Beans hit 6.75 but I think he had sold most.
Mock's corn is shoulder high in Arkansas and the natives are feaking out. They do that when someone who knows what the hell they are doing down there. Problem is still don't have the crop in. Insurance man from the Gov't says dont' worry....with this war on...I am wringing my hands. It's still too wet in the bottom land to plant, and my brother is on it, but this is another two thousand acres allready rented. With this war on, I'm worried. I don't know whether to plant the highland, and let the bottoms go, or let it all go...I should know in 5 days....people are on it, and mock has even committed if the the insurance washes out....I don't know whether to hope for rain, snow or drought. I try to feed people, it's against instinct not to plant...I'm going to be one hot tamale if the government burns me. I will try to plant in mud and get less than normal soy production, it's just the damand is very high....just been too wet....might be able to plant on the high areas...but they don't produce as well...your just digging in rocks....The bottom land is the good soil and still wet. I'm probably to hyterical to farm....everything is morgaged to the hilt so this expansion will work....I even offered up my lilly white hands.... I have been told to stop wringing my hands... Mock might have to do grunt work soon. Last edited by watermock; 06-10-2005 at 06:49 PM.. |

Good to see at least somebody is doing well. Back home in NW montana they are having the worst flooding in 100+ years, the farmers are screwed and the cows need lifejackets.

I can't sell my beans if I can't plant them. I don't want insurance, but it's almost too late to plant. That's why I offered up my lilly hands.
It's in a farmers blood to plant. Any later, the combine won't be able see beans from straw. The beans will not be mature enough. They will just be thrown out the back of the combine. Alot of corn was flooded out, we were going to plant beans....it's in flux... God I can't even type....I guess somethings never change... The OverLords are mulling over all of this, which makes me very nervous.... Last edited by watermock; 06-10-2005 at 07:00 PM.. |

People gave up with trying to raise cattle here a hundred years ago, hogs are in giant pens and stink like hell, of course they don't mind it...but I do.... Cattle do well, then they get a big storm and get wiped out. Noone here farms cattle. Mock might have to get his hands dirty this week. Last edited by watermock; 06-10-2005 at 07:06 PM.. |

We haven't really seen any flooding in the valley except for those few road issues on the east side of the lake. The river has got to be getting close to flood stage though. The resevoir ( Hungry Horse ) waas 2 feet below full pool 2 days ago. I saw they were releasing water out of the dam that's up your way though. I still thank God for this. Remember, they were forecasting one of the worst droughts ever for this year. _______ RAIN Author: Martin Ross 6/10/05 The Flathead valley has been pounded with rain throughout the past few weeks, even flooding some roads. And although we would all like to see it stop for the weekend, we will be wishing for it later during fire season. “If the rain were to quit right now there is a chance that the grasses would grow and there'd be more fuel available later in the fire season, but if it continues to rain in small amounts over a long period of time, that'll really help benefit us by raising the fuel moisture on the forest floor,” said Jeremy Pris of the DNRC. Although it may not feel like it, we are entering the seventh year of drought. Pris said it will take a lot more rain to make an impact on fire season. Wow, we got certified for insurance, we just have to plant around 120 acres out of 2000 in NW Iowa.
Even tho I would love to plant, you can't just mud it in. Luckily, my brother is good friends with the crop insurance guy from the Feds. It's only 85 percent, but of course, we can just let the ground lay fallow, rest and throw some manure on it to get it ready for next year. I was almost ready to get off my sorry ass and plant myself in a tractor. God Bless the USA...heh... That said, we pay for insurance as well. I don't like it, because beans are faily profitable right now, but you can't plant in mud. Regardless, I'm very relieved and gratefull. Running two farming operations 1000 miles apart isn't easy on anyone here, especially with basically just my brother and his son. It's almost absurd to try to farm 5000 acres with two people and a motley crue. We have bought alot of killer equipment in the last couple yeard, but it's still hard. We bought GPS cat-trac tractor and combine, a couple new(well for us) semis. I was so worked up wondering if the were going to approve this insurance I was up all night. It had to be done by the 15th. That's borderline to get it in here, and if you buy the beans to plant and can't, well, I guess the birds have a feeding frenzy. |
