Default Mariners Fans, What's Wrong with Adrian Beltre?

Someone finally threw up their hands in disgust and waived him in one of my rotisserie leagues last night. I'm going to burn the number one waiver priority on him, hoping he can turn around his season. I'm concerned about the hamstring injury, though. Anybody hear how serious that might be? Any whispers about a trip to the DL?

It seems like Adrian might just be a tease. A guy who plays like garbage for four years and then has a monstrous career season in his walk year. Guaranteed contract locked up, he's back to his old, indifferent ways.

BroncoLB52, BreckBronc, what's your take on the guy from this point forward?

I have ARod at third, so I'm not trying to plug a hole in my lineup. I just want to know if I should even bother cutting a replacement level OF like Juan Encarnacion in the hopes Beltre can pull his head out before the season ends.

IMO (and that carries almost NO weight), it might be worth taking a flier on him. I'm hoping he's just getting used to the AL and is out of his comfort zone right now. Lord knows the Mariners franchise doesn't need any help screwing up.

I know that's a tough stadium for hitters, but that lineup really does need Beltre to start showing up. Sexton is notoriously streaky, like most big galoots who are paid to whack the ball a mile. Boone's career continues it freefall. Reed isn't quite ready. Winn is the definition of average. Ibanez doesn't exactly ooze star quality. Suzuki is a true superstar, but its impossible for a singles hitter to carry a team, as was proven so conclusively last season.

i was so psyched when the M's got Beltre and Sexson. now, i can only shake my head. Sexson either homers or strikes out, and Beltre has done nothing. If Beltre, Sexson, Ibanez, and Boone can get it together, we could do something with the AL West. But for now, we lose to frickin' Tampa Bay, at home no less. God dammit. i wish we still had Griffey and A-Rod and Randy.

As a Dodgers fan Im going to tell you this. He only plays well when his job is on the line. Last year was a contract year and thats why he did well. Im glad LA didn't resign him.

I am totally dumbfounded about Beltre.

He was a blue chip, can't miss prospect at 19. He struggled in his early 20s but I felt he was rushed and was going through the growing pains most 20 something year olds experience in the big leagues.

Right now, he has a Rafael Belliard-esque .269 OBP and .354 SLG. I don't think you can bring up Safeco Park as an excuse for his ugly numbers when you consider he smashed a L.A. Dodgers record 48 HR at pitching friendly Dodger Stadium.

Here are a few positives to stay optimistic:

- He's only 26, one year before the typical career year age of 27.

- For his career:

Pre All-Star Break: .258 AVG, .312 OBP, .422 SLG

Post All-Star Break: .287 AVG, .345 OBP, .494 SLG

Well, he's a Yah Mule now.

One of my teams put up this offensive linescore tonight:

22-64, 16 R, 7 HR, 0.3438 BA, 4 2B, 21 RBI, 4 BB, 3B

I don't see ARod as much of a villian. Bit of a front runner, bit of a quitter, but he'll legitimately own the all time home run record some day. His career numbers after nine full seasons are far superior to B*nds.

Swiping at the ball with those big Hamburger Helper batting gloves and then whining when he got called out for interference is one he won't live down until he wins a World Series, though.
