Default Oklahoma State's Grant killed in car accident

My heart goes out to Grant's family and friends. Sad and tragic. My heart also goes out to Tatum Bell and Darrent Williams as well.

Grant dies in car accident.

Oklahoma State's Grant killed in car accident

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma State safety Vernon Grant was killed in a car accident in Dallas, coach Mike Gundy said Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Grant died Monday night after his car was broadsided while he attempted to cross traffic onto an interstate ramp, said Senior Cpl. Donna Hernandez, a Dallas police spokeswoman.

"OSU has lost one of its finest student ambassadors," athletics director Harry Birdwell said of the death of 22-year-old Vernon Grant. ( / Associated Press)

Grant, of Duncanville, Texas, died later at a hospital. Hernandez said the other driver had minor injuries. Alcohol or drugs weren't involved in the accident, Hernandez said.

"This is a terrible loss for everyone associated with Oklahoma State University and the football family," Gundy said in a statement. "Vernon Grant was a terrific young man who had an infectious smile and a positive approach to everything he did. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates."

Grant, a three-year starter, had 67 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries last season. He led Oklahoma State with nine tackles in the Alamo Bowl.

After arriving in Stillwater in 2002, Grant made a quick impact. He started the final seven games of his freshman season and finished fifth on the team with 62 tackles. He made eight more starts and played in all 13 of Oklahoma State's games in 2003, finishing second on the team with 89 tackles. An engineering major, he also was a success in the classroom with a 3.25 grade-point average.

"OSU has lost one of its finest student ambassadors," athletics director Harry Birdwell said in a statement. "Vernon Grant's smile could light up a room and his enthusiasm made him a great and dependable teammate. The irony of this is that it was Vernon Grant who taught us all the importance of inner strength and faith in time of personal tragedy."

That really really sucks. RIP Vernon Grant and condolences to Ozo and the rest of the Oklahoma St. family.

Sad, sad.

I wonder how this will affect Darrent? Both being DB's and in the same class, they likely hung out together some.

Forget the football player, society lost a bright and productive person. What a terrible story.

Thanks SoCal. I'm truely speechless right now.

Just saw it on the Buckeye board, RIP Grant and condolences to the Grant family.

His last game was played against Ohio State, I remember him being involved in two big plays, where he tackled Ted Ginn to save a TD and tripped Ted Ginn up and made him change directions enough for another guy to tackle him to save a TD.

As Bronco LB 52 said, 3.25 GPA as an engineer, the world lost a bright future whether he played football or not.
