Default Help me quit smoking!!

Ok, O-Maners, I need some help here.

I have been trying to quit smoking and I just cannot seem to do it. Every time I say that this is the last one, I just keep finding an excuse to keep it up. I haven't tried anything to help, like the patches or gum or anything yet. Has anyone tried those things and did they help?

I have one month to quit from today's date. The reason for my deadline is because on May 12, I will be getting braces put on, and I can just imagine that if I keep smoking and get the braces off next year, I will have white spots where the brackets were.

Give me some advice or helpful stuff that helped you quit.

(Pezedit) OH YEAH AND BY THE WAY... Mtbrncofn® JUST WENT OVER 4000 POSTS WOO! Giver some hell everyone!

I think I have heard of them.

I honestly don't feel like it's the nicotine. ( I'm sure it is ) It's the boredom that gets me. There are just certain things I smoke and do at the same time. Actually it's just one thing. It's when I get in my car by myself, no kids. If I could make it all the way to town and back without doing it, I think I could do it. I don't smoke around my kids and they don't know that I smoke.

I've quit briefly a few times before but I always blow it when I have to go to town by myself. I just cannot seem to sit there and drive without smoking. Damnit.

so your saying you have an oral fixation wink wink

seriously though, they sell those things that have small doses of nicotene that you can act like you are smoking, it's some plastic thing...I've heard of those too.

Ha ha, smartypants.

I guess I could give something extra a try. I just have this mindset that I CAN do it myself. I heard that the nicotine patches can give you crazy nightmares. I even smoke Ultra lights, so I can't need that much nicotine, right?

The only way you will quit is if you truly want to....when you do, keep a constant supply of gum or jolly ranchers. When you feel the urge to smoke those come in real handy.....

if that doesn't help, think about being able to wake up in the morning without coughing up a lung....

I've tried gum and candy. Didn't help too much. I've tried all those terrible thoughts too. I guess I just suck.

One thing is for sure... be sure to keep yourself away from too many sweets as your metabolism is going to really slow at first. My buddy John quit and he really struggled with energy and his diet.

I havent had any caffiene in quite a long time but I heard that a person's metabolism slows because of a lack of caffiene too... Am I wrong?

Look at it this way, at least you arent trying to quit heroin right

Seriously good luck with the quit. You'll feel better about yourself every day as you get less dependent on the nicotine...

I don't know about the caffeine, but I think I have read something along those lines before. I think it goes that way for a lot of addictions.

I've heard smoking is one of the hardest things to quit. They're right. I don't smoke a lot ( maybe 2 packs a week ) and I haven't smoked for that long ( under 3 years ). It should be easier for me, right? I guess it doesn't work that way.

Quitting morphine was some nasty stuff bro... man oh man... the doctors really jacked me up with that stuff when I broke my jaw in high school. There is nothing more evil than that stuff... I remember feeling just awful for a week after being weened off that sadistic and brutal drug.

My ex-girlfriend refused to travel to Lawrence for a football game one year because they've banned smoking in public establishments.

The price alone should help me quit too. You see? I have all these factors that should help me quit, but I just can't seem to get it done!

I"m trying to cut down my caffiene intake as well.......it's working somewhat......

I decided that about 6 Mt. Dews a week was raising my BP too much.......

it's hard to quit though man.....I can only imagine ciggys

It wouldnt be so hard if there were better choices of soda out there. But one can only have so much 7up and Sprite before burning out ya know... When I stopped caffiene, there was one good benefit. I stopped getting migrane headaches because of dehydration.
