Default Crazy eBay Mom

Came across a sad and funny story.

"And here's my mom's bedroom. You were probably expecting a bed or something. It's there, somewhere underneath all those boxes. My mom decided storing this stuff is more important that having a place to sleep. So where does my mom sleep? Remember that 2/3rds of a couch back in the living room? Yep, every night. No I don't know what's in any of these boxes either. Most of them are from eBay and have never been opened, just put straight on the pile."

Coping with mental illness in a loved one is emotionally devastating.

I have dealt with this phenomenon, but honestly, it's manageable. Confronting a packrat is hopeless. You have to go thru each item individually. It could take years.

I just box it and stack.

There are thousands of items I have stored, and noone knows what these boxes even contain. You can't even get to them. I put up 17 shelves anchored into the basement, and all filled with boxes, and you can't even get to them now.

All of it is worth something, but if you can't even get to it, or know what it is, what good is it?

Crazy thing about a PackRat tho...just when your going to the store to get something, it's in a box...just where is problematic.

My neighbor passed away about 6 years ago, and this was insane. She had stuff boxed and otherwise up to the ceiling on all sides. I mean to the point where you only had a slight walking area. IN the living room.

I have never been able to figure this behavior out, but it's pretty common.

The entire house was boxed wall to wall. I'm fairly polite, despite some people here who might digress, so I didn't mention it. Even the living room, filled to the ceiling.
