The Defense
Default Rice Deal Could Be Imminent

Broncos | Rice Deal could be Forthcoming - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 19 May 2005 16:43:15 -0700

Updating a previous story, the Associated Press reports agent Jim Steiner told the Associated Press Thursday. May 19 free agent WR Jerry Rice (Seahawks) and Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan had an "excellent conversation." Steiner said again Rice is willing to play as a backup in Denver. The agent said there was no time pressure to get anything done with the Broncos, but if a deal was going to be reached, he thinks it will be "forthcoming soon."

Well, its good to know he's "willing to play as a backup". Very magnanimous gesture, seeing as how he's completely washed up.

He's taking a roster spot of a young reciever or a special teams expert. thats why I care. Adams can drop just as many passes as he can and he'll cost less.

If Rice does indeed sign with Denver, I wonder what "number" he is going to wear?

I hope Rice doesn't disrespect Rod Smith like he did with Steve Largent and ask for his 80.

Because I would rather use that valuable roster spot to try and develop a young player or get a guy who can contribute on special teams, not stroke an old fool's ego.

now that i think about it, Shanny doesnt do sentimentality so it doesnt matter if he comes or not. If BJ Johnson or jackson or crenshaw or whoever beats him out for the last spot, they will dump Jerry, regardless of who ihe is or what he has done. Jerry is going to have to earn it either way, Shanny doesnt give a **** about sentimentality.

They better not give him a signing bonus if he signs. Let him come in and practice and then drop him.

No way he gets 80, he's gonna have to wear 45 and like it!

Count me in as well. I was thinking about that today. Rod's a class act and would probably offer him 80. If Rice had any class, he'd refuse it. I guess we all know what happened in Seattle though.

I was thinking Mike westbrook, but only cause I want someone to kick his old wrinkled behind in training camp. I'm gonna boo him either way. I don't want him on my team!
