I've seen it twice and plan on seeing it a few more times. Right now I would say it ranks 2nd to Empire as my favorite of the 6 Star Wars movies.

As for people jumping up after the credits start to leave, I think that is because the movie is over. I don't know how many movies you go to or the customs down in Cabo, but where I leave people do that at every movie good or bad. No one stays after the movie just to hang out.
Lucas will be printing money with this movie.

Right now I have it 3rd on my list. Empires and A New Hope is above it.

I loved the movie, but as soon as the credits rolled I was out. Sorry, but I'm not concerned about who was the 2nd unit assisant makeup designer.

I saw it last night, enjoyed it very much.

I didn't see anything 'digging' at Bush or anything overtly political (anyone see "The Core?" Now, that was a direct shot). It always seemed to me a story of 'power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.'

I don't understand why Baja thinks that people getting up and leaving once the credits starts to roll is some kind of proof that it will bomb. Where I live they want you to leave as soon as possible to either get ready for the next showing or so they can clean the theatre(sp?) and leave themselves.

No Star Wars Movie has bombed. Hell Clones, which I think did the worst at the Box office, made around 250 million in the U.S. alone.

When a movie is really good or thought provoking or emotional people tend to sit for a bit while the credits are ruining to absorb what they have just seen and to switch gears back to reality. This movie evokes non of those feelings, it's all glitz and no substance. Just my take no need to get huffy.

People see what they want to see. if people want to see parallels between this movie and reality, thats them. Doesnt make it true, like the whole we gave saddam wmd mantra. you can say it until the sky turns green. we never have him wmd.

"Ok, I just got back from an 8:30 IMAX showing here in SoCal..."

Lucas came out and said they were not going to make an IMAX version of this one.

Anyone who thinks this one will bomb is on crack. Even if the movie was pulled at the end of this weekend, it would still not be a bomb based solely off the numbers through Sunday night.

As far as I can tell, It's showing in 5 theaters at each major cinema in the area, and most shows are selling out. I predict gross receipts will probably come in second place all time....behind only Titanic.

Not getting huffy, but even when I saw a movie like Saving Private Ryan, people got up and left. Not with the usual chit chat, it was somber movie, but people did just get up and leave, because the movie was over.

But you should say that this movie doesn't evoke any of those feelings in YOU. Because I thought it was a great movie and so did most of the people who have talked about it on this thread. You act like because you didn't care for it no one did. It is like me saying I hate the Chiefs, so no one likes them and would want to go to their games, even though the 80,000 people in red at ChokeHead Stadium every Sunday proves me wrong. Other people do like the Chiefs even though I can't stand them and other people like this movie even though you do not.

Ok, maybe I'm getting a little huffy.

Because I was surprised at low quality of the movie, even the archetypal themes were badly used unlike the first three episodes. I watched the reactions of the people leaving the theater and ease droped on their comments the general impression I was left with was the movie was mostly underwhelming to my fellow movie goers but I'm glad you liked it.

This is Star Wars. I never expected a "thought provoking" movie. I agree that some movies make you sit there and say "wow" because it packs a powerful message about life. Anybody who expects some "deeper meaning" to Star Wars will be sorely disappointed. That doesn't mean they didn't think it was good. It's pure entertainment for (in this case) 2 1/2 hours. I'm sure that when the credits rolled, people were simply worried about being stuck in a crowded movie parking lot and wanted to beat the rush.

Hey Pez, what IMAX did you see it at? I didn't think it was showing on IMAX, I even called CityWalk numerous times to see if they were going to have it.

just saw it last night.
loved it.

the dialogue wasnt half as bad as people made it out to be, and the action was great.
if you compare to the original films, i suppose you could still be a a little disappointed, but as a stand alone film it was pretty awesome.
its FAR superior to the first two prequels, and just a notch below the originals.

i dont know now nor will i ever understand why so many people like "empire" so much, but i'd say thats the one film of the original trilogy that this one stacks up against.

in order, i'd say

1) return of the jedi
2) star wars (youll never get me to call it "episode IV")
3) tie between empire and sith
5) attack of the clones
6) phantom menace (a distant 6)

It has not and will not be made in IMAX according to Lucas. I'm sure Pez just meant digital.

The Ontario Edwards IMAX showed the print in all its 70mm glory. But, it was not "true" IMAX, you are correct. They chopped up the film to make it viewable instead of a 16x9 aspect ratio. They show all kinds of films in that monstrosity too...

Baja, I must disagree. This movie will rake in TONS of dough, especially this weekend. There was a thought that the theaters here in L.A. should remain open 24 hours a day to take in all the viewings. I know it was opening day, but even the small size theaters here were completely packed and nearing the sell-out point for the entire weekend. Trust me, this thing has legs and will easily break $90-110 million clams this week... Guaranteed.

Speaking of which... I read online that there might be some added scenes in the digital theater version over the film version? Can anyone confirm this?

I still don't agree. Every time I go to the movies everybody leaves when the credits start to roll. Good or bad, it's the samething everytime.

I've hardly heard one bad thing about this movie. I loved the movie. Just about everybody I've spoken to loved it, or at least liked it a lot. You are one of the very few that will call it a piece of crap.

I think people love Empires so much because the bad guys won. The bad guys pretty much kicked ass the entire movie. Han Solo was as cocky as ever. And Vadar was the main man for the empire.

The ewoks were lame in Jedi. As a kid I loved it, and Jedi was my favorite of the three. But when I grew up and watched all the movies again, the ewoks brought that movie down, and the strength of the empire in Empires made that movie a lot better to me. The final battle scenes of Jedi could have been a lot better without the ewoks. Luke and Vadar were fighting with the Emperor watching. And there was a huge space battle happening outside of the Death Star. Then they'd cut to a bunch of ewoks killing storm troopers with dumb luck. The other two battles were great, but the battle on Endor was wack (after I grew up). It would have been better with Han Solo flying the Millennium Falcon in that battle, and destroying the Death Star.

I have Jedi tied with Clones for 4th. I do agree, Menace is a distant 6th. The only thing that movie showed was the beginning stages of Palpatine's plan. They should have started the whole thing with Clones. Made Sith episode 2, and made episode 3 tie into A New Hope a little bit more. Maybe advance the story 10-15 years. Show Vadar gaining more power. Show the Rebel Alliance growing.

one very small detail i really liked was when obi wan picked up ani“s lightsaber. overall the movie is star wars worthy and probably my #3 out of the 6. why does it take the empire 20 years to build the death star? very nice putting the death star in it.

Did anyone else laugh uncontrollably when Darth Vader screams "NOOOOOO!"? I couldn't stop and was almost asked to leave in the last few minutes. The acting was horribly directed, which has been Lucas' problem for all of the movies he directed. Hayden Christensen can actuall act (see Shattered Glass or Life as a House), but Lucas has him doing goofy, you've-got-to-be-kidding-me poses and lines. It's almost as if he has the actors/actresses take no heed whatsoever of each other in the scenes. It's like they're saying their lines to no one in particular in the presence of each other. Overall it was about what I expected - good fight scenes, over-the-top campy drama horribly acted by capable actors and some nice detailed tie-ins (Chewy... although it still makes no sense if he was a leader on his planet how he ended up with Han... Anikin's saber, and how Obi-wan was able to pull a patrick swayze on demi skywalker). I enjoyed it.

Okay, my 2 cents...

*****SPOILERS******

I thought this movie was very good. It was definitely better then the previous two in both dialogue, action, and story.

I thought one area they could have improved upon was the storyline taking Anakin from good to evil. However, he never truely seemed to be good besides his caring for his master which eventually faded away. I still thought they made Anakin too bland but immature which fit the story. He even seemed immature when he was morphed into Darth Vader the robot. Probably the cheesiest part of the movie is when Vader is rebuilt and chained down to a bed that motions up to put him in a standing position and then when he hears his wife (Portman) has died, he does this retarded Frankenstein impression. However it fits so i can't complain about it too much. Just kinda hokey.

I grew mad respect for Obi-Wan in this movie. You start to get the impression that he is actually a bad ass which hasn't been seen to this point in the trilogy besides successfully killing Darth Maul. The battle between Lord Grevious and Vader at the end... man, classic. The fact that Obi-Wan actually gave warning to Vader before doing him in.... wow. "Don't do it Anakin, you know I have the higher ground...." That part left me speechless. Actually, the whole end of the movie left me speechless and actually covering my mouth. If not for the freaky Vader/Frankenstein part, it would have been perfect.

Anakin, personality wise kinda bothered me... ability wise those he was amazing. Easily the greatest sword weilding jedi.

Mace Windu got mad respect in this film. Whoever said that Mace sucks... whatever. This guy had Palpatine defeated... bascially could have ended the movie half way through it.... before he was sabotaged.

Yoda is old in this movie. Still effective but not what I was expecting from him.

Fight scenes in this sucker were awesome.

How about Duuku getting the coot de graw? I didn't spell that right but damn... was an awesome fight scene.
