Default Odds are people

That one of these corners will pan out and be good. There is just NO WAY in hell that all three will suck. We will get our number two guy out of this draft. Thats all the homer I have in me at this time.

A couple of these guys weren't drafted because of the Corner Back skills. It's the first attempt to do something about the dismal Special Teams.

That's where you better hope a couple of these guys actually pan out.

Hummmm you seemed to forget to add Detha to your list

PS: So much for that great easter present in Pollack. Special teams(returning punts/kick offs) is the only area we might have improved in, we still have the same punter and shallow kick off specialists on the team

Given yesterday's picks, are the Broncos giving them a chance?

what are we going to do with so many CB's on the team? we dont have room for all of them...does this mean we will end up cutting one of our first day picks?

if shanahan was so intent on shoring up the secondary, why didnt he take a safety??
or the best return man/cb in the draft...antonio perkins? and why wouldnt he take a flyer at mcpherson, but would take one at clarett, a position we dont even need anymore of?

No I think it means that some guys get moved to FS and that guys like Brandon are as good as gone. Middlebrooks could be gone because of his injury as well. We will just have to wait and see how it works out. I think we helped out a very weak part of our team this week. The SP teams.

One thing that I think is being over looked is the way that the game is changing. No longer can you have physical CB that out muscle the WR's. The NFL took that out. Now you need quick, fast, jumpers that can break on the ball. We got three CB's with 4.3, 4.34, and 4.35 times and 41.5, 41, and 39 inch vert. We will see that smaller guys will be the future.

Paymah at 204 lbs could be a FS. Has 4.4 speed also. That's real good size/speed ratio, so he'd be theoretically a good FS. but does he have actual football skills I guess is the question.

i guess that is true, but i question his tackling ability as a safety...i would have jumped thru the ceiling if we would have traded up to grab bullocks or pool in early round 2. then we still could have taken two cb's in rd. 3

but whats done is done...im just hoping they see something i dont.

It will work out, I assure you. These guys are going to pan out to be good. Each one of them. Maybe not $60 million good. but they will hold their own. especially Williams, I have high hopes for him

Darrent Williams Grade: 3.58
Position: CB
Class: Sr
School: Oklahoma St.
Conference: Big 12
Ht., Wt.: 5-8.5, 176
40 Time: 4.36
Selected by: Denver Broncos
Round 2, pick 24 (56 overall) Grading System

BIO: Three-year starter who also played four games with the first unit as a true freshman. Posted 21 tackles and broke up three passes as a senior after a broken forearm limited him to seven games. Career numbers as a junior included 66/6/17. Experienced punt returner who averaged 27.7 yards on nine returns as a senior with one score after 17.9 yards on 13 punts the prior season.

POSITIVES: Big-play cornerback with limited size. Quick and fluid moving in all directions, displays excellent instincts and outstanding ball skills. Alert in zone coverage, quickly locates the pass and immediately breaks to the play. Fast and has the ability to recover. Easily runs with opponents in any direction on the field and displays a good degree of suddenness. Works well with safeties and consistently around the action.

NEGATIVES: Undersized, defeated by larger opponents or beaten out in battles. Not physical in run support and prefers to knock down ballcarriers.

ANALYSIS: An explosive prospect with game impacting skills as a ball-hawking defensive back or return specialist, Williams possesses both the athletic skills and intangibles to play at the next level. Size is a limiting factor and may be best served as a nickel back whose primary duties will be returning punts.

Domonique Foxworth Grade: 3.45
Position: CB
Class: Sr
School: Maryland
Conference: ACC
Ht., Wt.: 5-11, 184
40 Time: 4.48
Selected by: Denver Broncos
Round 3, pick 34 (97 overall) Grading System

BIO: Second team All-Conference selection who posted 36 tackles and broke up seven passes as a senior. All-Conference the prior two seasons when he was a full-time starter, totaling career numbers of 54/5/17 as a sophomore.

POSITIVES: Alert, instinctive quarterback who immediately locates the ball and makes plays on the pass. Displays solid playing speed, reads the receivers eyes and quickly gets his head back around. Gets vertical to defend the throw. Works to get off blocks and defend the run.

NEGATIVES: Plays back on his heels in man coverage. Undersized and beaten by large receivers.

ANALYSIS: Consistent on the college level, Foxworth is best suited to play backed off the line of scrimmage or in a zone system at the next level. A late-round draft choice who could be a very good nickel.

Karl Paymah Grade: 3.36
Position: CB
Class: Sr
School: Wash. St.
Conference: Pac-10
Ht., Wt.: 6-0, 204
40 Time: 4.4
Selected by: Denver Broncos
Round 3, pick 12 (76 overall) Grading System

BIO: Two-year starter who posted 35/2/8 as a senior after 55/1/10 the prior year.

POSITIVES: Physical cornerback with solid size/speed numbers. Good athlete who immediately transitions off the line with opponents, runs well laterally and is strong at the point of attack. Physical, works to break up the throw and also helps out in run defense. Very confident in his abilities. Solid special teams player.

NEGATIVES: Lacks the top plant and break on the throw. Does not display good body control. Not the most instinctive, late locating the ball and hesitant reacting in coverage. Does a lot of face guarding and slow getting his head back around.

ANALYSIS: A prospect well sized for press coverage, Paymah's best shot could be in a zone system where he is facing the action and can immediately find the ball. A solid athlete, he must improve his ball skills to have a chance at the next level.

Well I'd like to agree with you, but Shoate and LeSuer have to be on the bubble considering these picks. We have:

Bailey
Walls
Middlebrooks
Alexander
Shoate
LeSuer
Williams
Paymah
Foxworth
Cox

You do the math that's 10 CB, what maybe 6 make the team? Maybe 7 if we give Williams a pass as a special teams ace.

We also have:
Lynch
Fergueson
Young
Brandon

So Maybe we move LeSuer or Foxworth to safety and keep another one to have 5 safeties. That still means that at least one player, probably two are going to get the ax.

Well I know that two or three will be gone but there is camp and preseason games to watch. See which ones make an impact. Then there is the ever so popular season ending finger injury that will land one or two on the IR.

i think that all of them have potential...i definitely agree with you there.

but i dont think we need three guys at the same position. we needed one, two is pushing it...and then pick up some veteran in FA.

we still need o-line help, safety help, punter, d-line depth,etc...we have a lot of holes to fill becuase of taking three cb's

ps-what do u think of mcpherson going in mid rd 5 we could have easily traded to nab him...im dissapointed

I like the Williams pick. I predict he'll be an impact player.

If one of our CB / S beats out Sam Brandon I wouldn't be surprised.

If our DL gets busy our CB will be getting the turnovers that this team needs.

It starts at the line. I think the DL is going to be awesome.

Watch what happens in the after draft.

Sounds like really in Williams, they got one very skilled football player that get you some TD's/field position as a returner, and even some INT's since apparently he doesn't drop the damn ball once he gets his hands on it.

With Paymah, this guy may not have the skills to be CB, but that size/speed ratio is nothing to sniff at.

With Foxworth, it sounds like he's a skillful football player.

All three are fast, fast, fast, and two of them i notice the word "instinctive." I like that. They're football players, they have the knack, and they're all fast, fast, fast.

By next year, all four of them may be gone. And the two getting the axe this year may come from that group also. Lynch through retirement, the other three they have never really done anything at all. The three guys they brought in 3d round are faster and seems like they have as good or better football skills.
