Probably Hendrix Smash Hits, which was not a greatest hits album per se.

Usually this question is posed as, "What one album would you want with you on a deserted island?" I guess presuming that on this island there would be some means of playing this album.

Under those conditions, I might choose nothing. I know if I only had one thing to listen to for the rest of my life, I would grow to despise that album. I'm not sure I could handle that in addition to the grinding solitude and eating coconuts and pineapples seven ****ing days a week.

Actually it's called "Favorite Album Of All-Time" thread. Favorite being What's best to you. Enter The 36 Chambers is definitely one of the best Hip Hop albums of all-time! This best album stuff is really in the eye of the beholder.

I'd have to agree with alot of those already mentioned.....

Dark Side of the Moon - Every song blends into the next, and all are good.

Led Zep IV - Wore out three of these cassettes in high school.

Some of my other favorites...

Jimmy Buffett, A1A - Probably the most complete Buffett album.

Warren Zevon, Exitable Boy - I love this album, R.I.P. Warren.

The Doors, Morrision Hotel - It's hard to pick just one Doors album, but Peace Frog makes this a must have.

Foo Fighters, The Colour & The Shape - Nice change of pace album for me.

Tool, Undertow

Johnny Cash, At Folsom Prison

The Grateful Dead, American Beauty

Todd Snider, Songs for the Daily Planet

System of a Down, Toxicity

Billy Squier, Don't Say No

Hey Even, have you heard the new System of a Down single for the album that comes out next month? If you like Toxicity, you should dig it.

Pet Sounds is by far my favorite album of all time. First of all, I love Brian Wilson. I just think that "God Only Knows" is possibly the most chilling, beautiful song of all time. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" is incredible as well. I have the box set of the Pet Sounds Sessions and the vocal-only tracks are unbelievable. Chills up and down my spine. Plus he was working with The Wrecking Crew (the famous studio band). Just top notch musicality all around. How about you, why'd you choose Pet Sounds?

And this is actually a debate I've had in my head many times. My top four are a consensus, after taht it gets jumbled.

#2 - The Beatles - Abbey Road.

#3 - Miles Davis - The Complete 1964 Concert - Four & More and My Funny Valentine

#4 - The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Then again, my favorite song of all time is "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes (produced by Phil Spector). For a 22 year old, I'm really stuck in the '60s.
I would also pick Pet Sounds.

And I just recently got ProTools as well. Kind of overwhelming what you can do.

I will have to check out the Miles CD, because right now, I would put "Kind of Blue" there instead. Otherwise, that is about what my list would be.

Except possibly a version of the 5th Symphony conducted by Leonard Bernstein added.

I love Bernstein! Oh man. As for "Kind Of Blue", that was my choice, but the '64 concert does quite a few songs from that album plus the intensity in the performance is amazing. I can't remember what organization they were playing for, but right before they went on stage, Miles told his sidemen (Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter) that he donated their pay to the organization as well. Naturally, they were not happy and they blew the roof off of the place. DEFINATELY check it out. It's divided into two discs, the "slow" one ("My Funny Valentine", "All Of You", "All Blues", etc.) and the "fast" one (where Tony really shines on "Seven Steps To Heaven". Also a great version of "So What").

It is pretty hard to find ONE album that you prefer. Depending on what mood I'm in I rate these as my favorite albums.

King Crimson- Red
Television- Marquee Moon
Jethro Tull- Thick as a brick
Sonic Youth- Evol
Kate Bush- The kick inside

I will definitely get it when I can.

Hard to argue with 'Trane, Cannonball, and Evans, though . . .

Totally impossible question for me to answer....even if I just listed some of my faves, it would be a very enormous post.

So , in light of that, I'll respectfully decline and will sit this one out.

Man...some good taste here! Pink Floyd, Ween, Beach Boys, Beatles, etc... For a bunch of footballheads you guys are allright!

I cant name only one...pragmatically you have to pick either the Beatles' White Album or Sgt. Peppers because those two albums led to nearly every rock genre since then, so here are my faves:

Pixies-Surfer Rosa
Pixies-Trompe le Monde
Peter Gabriel-So
Bruce Hornsby-Here Come the Noise Makers Live
Radiohead-OK Computer
Radiohead-Hail to the Thief
Sunny Day Real Estate-LP2
Mike Watt-Contemplating the Engine Room
Beatles-Abbey Road
Victor Wooten-A Show of Hands
Rich Mullins-A Liturgy, A Legacy and a Ragamuffin Band
Ben Folds-Rockin' the Suburbs
Caedmons Call-40 Acres
Yes-Fragile
Yes-Close to the Edge
Beach Boys-Pet Sounds
Morphine-Cure for Pain
Morphine-Like Swimming
Flaming Lips-the one before Yoshimi (i cant place it right now)
Grant Lee Buffalo-Mighty Joe Moon
Frank Black-Frank Black
Soundgarden-Superunknown
Weezer-Weezer

too many to list...

Back at you, true enough.

I've got the Pet Sounds Box Set also. When I got it, I thought, "It's like I got to sit down and ask, 'Now this is what I would like to hear.'" The only thing I would have liked is some vocal session outtakes.

Speaking of drummers, have you heard Joe Morello's solo on Castilian Drums from "The Brubeck Quartet at Carnegie Hall"?

What he got out of 4 pieces . . .
