Default The official Andrew Walters bandwagon

Ok it is time for me to pick my "Player to pick for 2005" and by the thread title it is no mystery.

Name: Walters, Andrew
Position: QB
School: Arizona St.
Status: Senior
Number: 16
Height: 6'5
Weight: 235

A quarterback with good ball handling skills, has a quick setup in the pocket, has good touch on various passes thrown, good pocket presence
A player that possesses a excellent inner timer for pressure around him, he also leads his receivers well, which leads to more yards after catch, a underrated skill, he tends to avoid the rush well, poised, and seldom panics, inspiring and fiery type of quarterback

A quarterback that has a good balance of short, mid, and deep ball throws, has a lot of confidence and it shows in his play, even when his passes are not completed, many times his balls are catchable, his passes are consistently close to his receivers, has good football smarts

At times he shows too much of his emotions on his sleeve, and needs to keep his composure & poise, I also would like to see better foot placement in the pocket when throwing the ball, at times he throws off his back foot and other notable bad foot work habits, I would like to see him work on his overall fundamentals as a quarterback, needs to refine his game concerning the little things, also likes to force balls which disturbs me when you consider his experience and games played on the collegiate level at quarterback

As for his draft status, I feel due to his inconstancies and also season ending injury near the end of his collegiate career, that drop his draft value, so as a (5th RD) pick I see good value, depending on what team roster he lands on, he could be anywhere from a backup to a future All-Pro quarterback, has the mobility and quick thinking to be an excellent West Coast quarterback

I like him a lot, but he is a drop back pocket passer who is currently out of style. Tall, smart, rocket arm, very smart and an almost local kid. Wouldn't mind him one bit but the offense would need to change to fit him.

The report I read said that he had unbelievable arm strength but absouloutly no touch on his shorter throws.

Heard the same crap about Elway...Not that I am saying he is an Elway type QB. Fact is Jake will be the QB here for two more years at least. Walter could improve his footwork, touch and digest the WCO in that time.

Also the guy had very little talent around him, and this lack of touch may be because he feels he needs to zip it in.

You can teach a guy to make touch passes, but you can't coach arm strength. He sounds like an interesting prospect. Merrill Hoge just spoke pretty highly of him on the Draft special.

This guy calls Walter a "poor man's Drew Bledsoe". If he has trouble changing directions (like the analysis suggests), he won't be very effective in the bootleg.

Wonderlic: 31 , we are talking a 3rd rounder for a guy that taught a little better footwork would be a great WCO QB. No he is not a scrambling QB and does not change directions well, but on rollouts we are not asking him to stop nad roll back. You roll and make the throw.

6-6 230 wonderlic-31 huge arm, buttt he's not mobile and has a career 54% completion rate. 4th round maybe. You either need to be mobile or have a high completion % IMO, one of the two. You can't suck at both

Completion % has to do a lot with the system and talent around you. I like the 30-9 Td to int ratio in his senior year also.
