Default Broncos Executives: Pryce won't be back

This is from CBS Sportsline.

Broncos executives are telling people that with Brown and Ekuban on board, Pryce won't be back. The Broncos would save about $5.6 million on their cap if they let Pryce walk. He is scheduled to make $6.5 million in base salary this year, with a cap figure of $9.1 million. That's way too high for a player with back problems. Pryce, who has told teammates he is ready to go, could agree to a lower cap number in a restructured deal to stay in Denver, but that's not likely. So look for him to be elsewhere next season, particularly if the Broncos drop their asking price of a high pick.

Somebody always gets desperate and goes wacky on draft day. Look at Mike Tice.

As a not so closet Viking fan, I've been pimping Pryce and our #25 plus a keg of Coors for #7 on KFFL, but noone wants him. The funny thing is, the tone there is they want a RB or Johnson at #7. I told them they are crazy if Williams is there.

They seem more interested in Howard, at least the fan base there. The idea is that Udeze might fit better at LDE and pick up a Pollock or whoever at #18.

I've said for awhile the Vikings are a logical choice, they still have cap money and need another DE. I don't know if moving Pryce to move up to #18 is enough really unless we have someone targeted.

The Post is also reporting that the Broncos will cut Pryce if they can't trade him or get him to take a major restructure .... and he doesn't want to restructure.

I say take any draft pick they can get for Pryce then trade our second round pick to New Orleans for Howard. Trade down in the first round and take a dt or CB. With the extra pick draft rb .

Howard thinks his shiat doesn't stink either. He's the same situation as Pryce, overpaid and arrogant. Howard gets more ink than Pryce. I don't think anyone is sold Pryce's back is ok.

The Broncos should trade Pryce to the Vikings for a 4 and 6 round draft pick.

Or find a way of resigning him and having potentialy the best defense in the league....

I wouldn't mind resigning him, but not if he wants to get greedy and ruin the Broncos chances of upgrading the defense. I really didn't think Trevor would be like this but if he is dump his a$$...

An idea would be to offer him a little more money but tell him with this you must agree to play inside more. He is a better DT then a DE anyways. If he would agree to do that and take a little pay cut then that would be better for the team in the long run. If he would agree to trim up some for the rookies that would be great. Then we could work on a deal that maybe would send our first and Terry Pierce the Eagles for I don't know both of their second rounders. My projected dline roster before the draft would look like this:

DE's
Courtney Brown
Ebenezer Ekuban
Anton Palepoi
Marco Coleman

DT's
Trevor Pryce
Michael Myers
Gerard Warren
Monsanto Pope
Mario Fatafehi
Doresett Davis

With the extra picks we could go something like
Baas
Vincent Jackson
Josh Bullocks
Bill Swancutt/Jovan Haye/ Atiyyah Ellison/ Santonio Thomas
Dustin Colquitt

Now there are other ways of going about it like not taking Bullocks and hoping Mariln Jackson falls to a comp third pick and making him a saftey. In place of Bullocks I would go Canty or Castillo. Either way we would be adding some talent to the secondary and the Dline.

If we could move up to take Pollack we'd still have potentially the best D in the league.

I agree...the glaring weakspot in your lineup there DB4L is DE...that still needs to be addressed if Pryce moves inside of leaves.

My only beef with a rookie along the Dline is they are not always a big helper for the first two years. Not saying we can't use the youth along the line or anything I just don't see the impact being great right away.

Pollack, like every 1st rounder is about a 50/50 crap shoot. Pryce is a gauranteed commodity (assuming he is healthy).

What I don't get is, that if we cut Pryce, teams are not going to pay him what HE thinks he worth. He'll have to settle for probably less than what the Broncos would be willing to restructure for. See Ian Gold.

****, maybe Pryce will play somewhere else for a year, get cut, and then resign with us the next year, plus we'll get a 3rd round Comp pick to boot. how does that sound?

I think you are partially correct. All this talk from the so called "Executives" I believe is mainly for the bennifit of Pryce. It is unlikely he will find a team that will pay him his present salary. However, no doubt his agent has check a few places and found out what he could probably expect as a FA. If so that would be more of incentive for Trev to restructure and play for the Broncos. This may be what is in the back of his mind by saying, "I'll be a the training program if they want me" All this could be a mind game.

Same thing happened with Eddie George last year. He refused to tak a paycut from the Titans and was cut. Then he took less money to go and play for the Cowboy's.

It's more a pride thing than anything else. A player feels that his team should keep him at a certian dollar amount adn he plays hard ball until he's cut. The reality set's in and he come to grips with playing for less, but won't dare walk back to his former team with his legs between his legs.

So the player takes what he can and moves on to another team.

If Denver does use Trevor in a move up trade on day one they'll have to include a pick (maybe an 2006 pick) to get high up in round one.

I keep hearing Washington may be interested. I also hear Denver wants Rolle or Pac man Jones.

As it stands, I would take a 2nd and something else down the line. Maybe also a 4th to go with a 2nd. Otherwise if we just release him all we are going to get is a savings of money. But that would help.
