Any one think that these moves of getting all these d-linemen are in the hopes of hitting on one or two that could become very solid forces on the line?
I am still hopeful to see them sign Marques Douglas. |

Right now I think Denvers doing all it can with the cap the way it is to fix the problem with the line. Now not many are going to look at this is good moves because of the state of the Browns D but what can you do? Only time will tell if it was a good move. |

Just being on a winner may inspire some decent play...or so we can hope.

I agree....They're not sexy moves at all....but least we forget the bumble-**** the Browns were as a group last year. IIRC, their coach quit on them. |

I think for the most part people are in shock of what we just did. First the Dline coach then 4 of their Dline players. I don't think anything like that has ever happened. But for their former coach to stick his neck out on the line for those guys it has to speak to them or should I say I hope it does. Its not like we are just injecting all these guys into our line up either. We have our own guys that will line up next to them and our LB's to back them up. Atleast we can't say we didn't bring in people with up side to them.....injury prone aside. |

After the shock wore off, I started to like these moves. This may not be a great line, but it looks to be better than last year's line, especially if Pryce returns. Too many "ifs" at this point. But this could become a pretty good line if things break the right way for the Broncos.

Risk/Reward moves. Opportunity Cost. Whatever the plan was, it was evidenced by Romeo changing the Browns to the 3-4 base set, unlike Denver. These guys are all 4-3 DL and there is exactly zero 3-4 personnel in any combination in Denver's top front seven at this point.
Read the facts of what Patterson states in the article about having over 34 million tied up in blocking dummies for the new 3-4 scheme. He knew they were not being used correctly in CLE and had lobbied hard to change the scheme to better fit the talent he had to coach. He KNEW they were not suited to a 3-4 Base. Now, if Pryce wisens up and Stays this year, this line will be improved significantly in Talent from last year. I wish Hayward would have stayed, but I would have left to get more money and potentially more notoriety from stroud and Henderson in JAX as well. Hopefully, Coyer will be able to utilize it better than CLE did and get much better performance out of the new rotation. |

Absolutely
People need to get real on this. Broncs traded a 4th round choice and a backup running back for four stop gap DL that are minimal hits to the cap this year and in the future. If two of these guys make a average contribution it is a steal for the Broncs. That being said, with the risk these guys pose, the DL is still the most questionable part of the team and it needs to be addressed in the draft to prevent the Broncs form getting in this exact same position a year from now. |

Instead we've gotten some good value prospects at the DL. We need to stock up because we'll be back in the 4-3 90% of the time this season and in that formation we rotate a lot. If we don't have Trev we'll be using a rotation to at least some degree in all four spots, maybe even with him. How I see it right now, Ekuban and Brown are our weak side DE rotation, Warren and Luther Elliss are our starting DTs with a few guys rotating behind them to a lesser extent, and Trev is strong side. I'd prefer to keep Trev but move him in to DT next to Warren, sign Marques Douglas, and draft a DT in round 2, probably Mike Patterson, who can come in and start in '06, letting us cut or trade Trev next season, when we're in better shape to do so. |

The best part of it that I see is we got 4 players for the cost of what one good player would have cost. I think we paid something like 5 mill for these guys while I love Reggie he is getting 7.7 mill. Now only two of the guys are healthy and the other two are a injury risk the talent is there. You can't beat it. You really can't. Does this mean we don't need more help? No but man its a nice start.

Risky moves could pay off for Broncos
By Pat Kirwan NFL.com Senior Analyst NFL Network (March 31, 2005) -- It's easy to say that the Browns unloaded a bunch of underachieving defensive linemen and the Broncos are up to their same old habits of taking players who don't appear capable of championship play. But look a little deeper before you jump to any conclusions. The Browns are on their way to a 3-4 defense and don't need many of the linemen they have had on the roster. They were 15th in the league in defensive yards allowed per game and now four of those players are on the Broncos roster. If the former Browns players understand one thing, it is now or never for their careers. Have you heard that Gerard Warren, Courtney Brown, Ebenezer Ekuban and Michael Myers aren't anything to write home about and that Denver is crazy to bring all four of them to the Broncos organization? Well, let's look at the whole picture for just one minute. The Broncos surrendered one running back -- Reuben Droughns -- which they have a replacement for in Tatum Bell, and one fourth-round draft pick. In return, they get four defensive linemen who are all under the age of 30 and who combined for 33 starts (an average of eight per player), 90 tackles and 13 sacks in 2004. Running back Reuben Droughns brings added depth to the Cleveland Browns backfield. The Broncos spent very little signing bonus, if any, and get all four defensive linemen for about $5 million of salary-cap space in 2005. The former Browns coach, Andre Patterson, who coached these four men, is now on the Broncos staff and he knows they must produce. If just two of these four players play well, the Broncos win the argument that the trades and signings should have been made. The Browns got out from under some big salaries and don't have to pay the roster bonuses due to some of these players. Plus they get a very good running back in Droughns. I like the Cleveland angle on this whole transaction, but the Broncos have a better chance of hitting a home run. |
