Default A Reason Why Courtney Brown Picked Denver

I think one of the main reasons Brown picked Denver instead of Washington or Jacksonville is the fact that he doesn't have to be the "man" down here. We already have star power on the defense and when shiiit hits the fan, all the fingers will not be pointed at Courtney like it happened in Cleveland.

If you look at our defense, the pecking order of star power falls like this:

1) Champ Bailey
2) Trevor Pryce (if he stays)
3) Al Wilson
4) John Lynch
5) Ian Gold
6) DJ Williams
7) Gerrad Warren
8) Courtney Brown

Now, if he had signed with Jacksonville, there would have been a lot more scrutinity on how he played because the only star power on that defense is the defensive line and if Courtney did not perform well, it would stand out.

Plus, Denver has a winning tradition compared to those other programs and our offense if much better as well. Even if the defense has a bad game, the offense can still pull out a win. The same cannot be said for Jacksonville or Washington.

And on a side note, even if Trevor does not restructure, I am pretty cool with our defense as it is. Who says he has to leave? A d line of Trevor, Gerrad, Courtney, and Fatafehi is not that bad.

My guess is that the orthepedic surgeons in the DC area are pretty busy with the Iraq casualities, so he figured he'd have less of a wait in Den for his next knee/foot operation.

Remember Alfred Williams no one thought that was much of a signing either

Same with Neil Smith.

Washington has just as many playmakers on Defense.
  • Lavar Arrington
  • Shawn Springs
  • Sean Taylor
  • Marcus Washington
  • Cornelious Griffin

Greg William's defense doesn't necessarily need a dominant pass rusher to create havoc for the offense. Washington had the league's 3rd ranked Defense (tops in the NFC) , yet the team's top sack guy was their starting Cornerback, Shawn Springs. DEs only contributed to 25% of the sacks last year for the Redskins. Courtney wouldn't have been asked to much more than be competent on the D-line.

So Washington really didnt' need him to be "The Man" to be sucessfull. They just wanted an upgrade to Phillip Daniels.

However, I can speak for 95% of the Redskin fanbase when I say we are PLEASED he signed with you guys.

Have fun with him.

Before Shanny went so far out on a limb in signing Brown, I am sure that his injury was well researched and that the physical therapy group of the Broncos was consulted. No doubt they have a plan for him in rehabilitation. Lose weight. Special excersizes etc. His talent is obvious, so it is a matter of programing his play with the rest of the DL to maximise his use. I like the move. The DL seams much stronger now with the addition of Brown and Warren. Should they also pick up Douglas or resign Ellis, it would be hard to beat.

He wouldn't have had to be "the man" down in Jacksonville either. They've got a hell of a D-line already with Henderson, Stroud & Hayward.

Yeah. It could be that. But I doubt it.

It shouldn't take as long as it did to sign him if that was the case. Everybody knows taht when you want to coast and make good money doing it, you go to Denver.

Free agents know that if they screw off thier 1st year, Denver will cut them and then they get a free salary for a couple of years while they go play with a team of their choice.

Would that be the same crack team that worked with T. Davis?

The one that couldn't find a stress fracture.

No. They are about to switch Physicians for the third time in six years and are currently interviewing.

As opposed to all the decent FA's who have used the Chiefs as bridesmaids to elevate their asking price to get to their team of choice? Neither is an enviable position.

It's hard to find a decent house in Jacksonville. They only have trailer parks, and a 10,000 square foot trailer is hard to find...
