Default Pryce says he is going to have a monster year in 2005

Pryce planning to finish with bang

"I know I have another five years or so in me, but I do see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I don't want to have any regrets. I don't want to leave anything on the field." - Trevor Pryce, Broncos defensive end

Lightning in a bottle.

That's how Trevor Pryce, who says he is completely recovered from a back injury that kept him out almost all last season, describes the next phase of his NFL career. While Pryce says there is no question he will regain his superstar form, the lame duck defensive end wonders where he will get the chance to return to stardom as the Broncos continue to try to trade the four-time Pro Bowl player.

"The bottle is about to open up, and you better watch out, because it's going to be something else," Pryce said Thursday. "No matter if it's for the Denver Broncos or the Highlands Ranch Mustangs, I'm going to go off."

Pryce, who will turn 30 on Aug. 3, said his experience sitting out last season helped make him realize how much he loves football - and how much he wants to protect his legacy as he nears the final stages of his career.

"I know I have another five years or so in me, but I do see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I don't want to have any regrets," Pryce said. "I don't want to leave anything on the field. I want to look back on my career and see a tape of my 12th, 13th year and say, 'I was just as good as I was in my fifth year.' That's going to happen."

Pryce said he has spent the offseason working as diligently as ever preparing for his comeback. He said he has not been in contact with any Broncos personnel other than strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten and that he has received the team's offseason workout program schedule.

The Broncos begin offseason workouts April 4. Pryce said he would attend the workouts at Dove Valley if that's what the team wants. The Broncos are trying to deal Pryce, who was informed of their plans nearly two months ago, to create salary cap room.

Denver wants a draft pick in return for Pryce and would likely be open to trading its No. 25 overall pick and Pryce to move up significantly in the first round, as it did last year in a trade with Cincinnati that included cornerback Deltha O'Neal. Dallas could land Pryce if it doesn't trade for New Orleans defensive end Darren Howard.

Coach Mike Shanahan said at the NFL owners meetings in Hawaii this week that Pryce could return. That would likely have to come with a restructuring of his contract, and that possibility hasn't been broached seriously.

Pryce said he believes Shanahan knows how much he is looking forward to playing in 2005.

"I really don't care about a trade," he said. "(If) I'm traded, I'll have no hard feelings at all. I just know I'll be back and have a huge year, wherever it is.

"The (injured) back isn't even an issue anymore or worth talking about. I will even be stronger this year than last year because I've been working out so much. People are going to see me this year and say, 'Holy cow!'

"There's no doubt I'll be a Pro Bowl player again. That's a given."

Pryce said he would like to "win another Super Bowl, wherever it may be."

Footnote

Cleveland defensive end Courtney Brown continues to weigh his options, which include signing with the Broncos. Brown was expected to announce his decision Thursday but continues to mull offers from the Broncos, Browns, Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks.

The best free agent splash we'll make this offseason is by keeping Trevor Pryce in Denver. That is the bottom line.

Wrap up this deal with Brown, pair him with Pryce on the edges, and then draft Shaun Cody to pair with Gerard Warren at DT. Now that would be an imposing defensive front.

Sounds like the first step in mending some fences. He inferred to playing this year a few times in Denver:

If nothing else this is the first thing he has done to help his trade value.

The problem is this. If we wait till trade day to unload Pryce, where are we even going to spend the money? I don't know of alot of potential June 1 cuts. It seems like teams are taking their medicine early now rather than waiting till June.

At least Pryce is starting to talk. Sheesh, the PR department on this team is in shambles. Opening their mouth several times with stupic comments, making assumptions, assertions...It's pretty damn sad when your DC is talking about a slow corner with a hernia coming off IR that's a first day pick.

Boy, Pryce sounds awfully conciliatory considering all the assertions from the likes of Sundquist & Bowlen that he won't be playing in Denver this year...perhaps he's had a definitive physical that impressed the team.

It's simply amazing to me that his agent keeps mentioning a willingness to re-structure now when the initial unwillingness to do so has been at the very heart of the need to trade his client all along.

Things change, obviously...seems in this instance, they've changed considerably in just the last week or so.

I assume you mean draft day and not June 1st Mock. We could take the extra cash and restructure a couple of our young guys and front load a bit to help out the future salary cap...well I can dream.

Think it has anything to do with Shanny coming out and stroking his ego a bit?

I hope this puts Denver in a situation to keep the guy...It's no use to cut him to free up cap space because there isnt a viable option waiting...Who you going to pay Courtney Brown??

KEEP BIG TREV AROUND...it'll be the BEST move of the offseason for Denver, hands down!...

If the Broncos don't bring back Big money it's because of something stupid. Too easy!

WHEN Trevor is on our line Shanny should point out the teams that could have gotten Trevor for cheap. See if he's really motivated.

Anybody remember Mobley? That guy was on his way out the door up until the last minute.

I think it's funny that players leave the Broncos and come back with such enthusiasm. Trevor isn't a big talker so he's showing a lot of "team spirit". It's probably just as much for all the people looking at this as anything. Smart.

It's too bad about the way Mobley left. He would still be out there if his neck hadn't gotten twisted. Sykes might be out of work.

Another one Denver should've traded a year too soon instead of a year too late....

I'd like to think ol' Trev is gearing up and ready to give his all every play for the Broncos with no hard feelings, be able to play at 100% healthy, and willing to redo his contract so that it helps the team but still gives him all the cash he needs...I'd like to believe that's what he wanted to get across in this article. But I guess a part of me just thinks his agent sat him down and gave him the right things to say in order to improve his perception with the local fans, Bronco brass, as well as other GMs who might be more willing to trade for him now since he's claiming no health/back issues at all.

But I sure would love for a healthy Pryce to return to Denver willing to give his all, as well as re-work his contract (like other leaders on the team) so Denver can make some more moves to help the team win a championship. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.

Yeah, I guess this line wouldn't have had the same warm fuzzy feel:

"I'm ready to rip it up on the field next year...once I can get out of bed without being hunched over and able to get the feeling back in both my legs. Dang this back...but I'll be ready! You can count on it! It's coming along."

Now Jason is all the reliable offense we really have and Al is soul of the defense but sometimes looks distracted.

I wouldn't mind a free agent coming in with Trevor.

I say keep him and sign Brown. As it stands now the Broncos can't run an effective 4-3. They have to go 3-4. But with Pryce and Brown, they could still run the 4-3. They probably would be better off sticking with the 4-3 with those two guys (if Brown can stay healthy).

B, if the Broncos end up with this line I'm sending you a gift card to your favorite restraunt...... that would be one heck of a line.

For the past week or so I've been hoping not to see a headline that says Trevor Pryce traded for........... I really hope that we keep him. Time to get him restructured and figure out what he wants. If he'll cut his salary in half and then take 3/4 of that in a signing bonus I think all parties would be happy.

Also, does it seem like we've never really looked into restructuring Trevor now. Shanny made mention that the topic was never really broached.
