Default Clemens Hummer Stolen, His Kid Couldn't Be More Spoiled...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2019844

HOUSTON -- It took All-Star pitcher Roger Clemens 20 years to rack up 300 wins -- a feat for which his team rewarded him with a brand-new orange Hummer.

On Wednesday, police say, it took thieves just a few minutes to make off with the hulking vehicle after Clemens' son drove it to school and left it unlocked.

School district police issued a statewide all-points bulletin statewide asking people to keep an eye out for the Hummer, which was stolen from Memorial High School at about 8:30 a.m.

"I talked with Roger about it a little," said Chuck Brawner, chief of the Spring Branch Independent School District police. "That Hummer was given to him by the New York Yankees for his 300th win."

Brawner said Clemens, who was at spring training with the Houston Astros in Florida, is offering a $10,000 reward for the vehicle's safe return and information about who took it. The Hummer contained all of Koby Clemens' baseball equipment for the high school team.

Roger Clemens couldn't immediately be reached for comment by The Associated Press on Wednesday.

He began letting Koby Clemens drive the orange Hummer to school after he signed a letter of intent last November to play baseball for the University of Texas, whose colors are burnt orange and white. Before that, Koby drove a black Hummer to school.

Hummers can range from $50,000 to more than $100,000.

"These athletes, they make the money, don't they?" Brawner said.

Unreal. What a rough life for little Koby. "Should I drive the black or orange Hummer to school?"

How stupid you have to be to leave your door unlocked on a Hummer.

How is that being spoiled? LeBron had a hummer when he was in high school, I didnt see people call him spoiled then.

I think I probably seen it drive by here a little while ago. Looked like someone with a Yankees jersey was driving it. Even though I knew about the all-points bulletin since I'm only a couple hundred miles away, I didn't feel it was my place to get involved at this time.

If you don't think having the choice as a teenager to drive to high school either the orange or the black Hummer is spoiled, then the gated community you grew up in must have been splendid. Congrats!

At least Clemens could probably afford the insurance. There are two schools of thought when you buy/give cars to students:

1) Get something you won't mind getting wrecked because it probably will.

2) Find a vehicle with a good rating for surviving crashes. I guess the Hummer would certainly qualify here.

Memorial is a nice, nice neighborhood. I lived around there many many years ago. But it is not so nice that you could go around in top-of-the-line automobiles and think they won't get stolen.

Again, if you don't feel having the CHOICE as a teenager to drive EITHER the orange or black Hummer to high school is being pampered, there's no sense discussing it with you. We obviously grew up in different schools of thought. Not a big deal.

Every kid of a professional athlete must be spoiled then by your standard.

Well, if every kid of a professional athlete has a choice of either a black or orange Hummer, vehicles he/she didn't work to pay for or at least part of...even help a little on insurance to learn something about commitment/responsibility/character/etc...is a tad too pampered in "my standards."

It's okay not to agree on this, DenFan. Just different schools of thought. By the way, richest guy I've ever personally known (owned a major construction company and three trucking companies) had a son who I grew up with. During college, he had to have a part-time job, keep a B average, for his dad to pay a dime on his tuition. Otherwise, he had to take out student loans...like many people did to pay for college (like me). Also, even though his dad had two jags (one white one green), the kid had a used Grand Am with about 80K miles on it as his car during high school AND college...he also had to pay for around half of it with the job he had during high school...mowing yards, painting, bailing hay, etc. Just different schools of thought on what to teach kids. He could let his son drive one of the jags to school...or even let him have one for his own. But he didn't. He made him work for it, appreciate things a little more when he too had something invested in it. Different schools of thought, is all. Some might say his dad was being a hard ass. But I wouldn't.

He got a free ride to Texas. Even if he's doesn't have the talent on the baseball diamond his father has (I don't know if he does or not), his name is going to get him drafted. That last name and genes are way more valuable than two Hummers. Some people are lucky in life, some aren't. I see no problem in letting your kid drive a nice car if you have the means to provide it.
