T. Pryce: Has been on the trading block all off-season. Is still recovering from lower disk surgery and currently is pissed at the team. C. Brown: Last time I checked he was interviewing with the Jag's in a attempted to raise the dollars from Denver or Washington. G.Warren: A career mystery. Here one game gone the next. Also working on a one year deal and if he does play well may price himself out of Denver for greener fields elsewhere. I. Gold: last time I saw him he was getting run over by some running back. I think drafting a young talented DE/DT would be in the best interest of the teams future. |

They're sitting at $61.7M in currently committed base salaries for '06 with Nalen, Lepsis, and Warren's deals voiding and Pryce not going to be here. That takes them to 46 guys and only 41.6M in base salaries, this was pre-Putz so add $1M or whatever he's getting and one more guy. They're not going to have $40M in bonus money on their cap. $$$ ain't going to be an issue if they let Warren walk. |

So your saying that 2006 will be freeagent friendly for Denver? What about if Pyrce is gone. Won't there be a cap hit in 06? |

Only hit from Pryce would be if they cut him after June 1. Warren shouldn't have a hit either. There is bonus money still out there for Lepsis and Nalen though. Lepsis' is probably around $3M, but Nalen's is impossible to calculate though since he's restructured so many times. They've only got 8 guys scheduled to make more then $1M next season in base salary: Champ- $5.5M, Al- $3.9M, Elam- $1.3M, Jake- $4.3M, MA- $2.565, RD- $1.15M, Lynch- $2.9M and Rod- $3M. MA and RD might not be here. TP, GW, ML, and TN all make more then $1M, but they're deals won't be on the books come March 2, 2006. I'm just going off those base salary numbers to make my assumption, but I would be floored (and pissed) if they've got $40M in signing bonus hits, other bonuses, and eventual dead money on next year's cap. Going off what I can find on signing bonus hits (excluding CB, AW, Jake, and Rod as well as Tatum and DJ b/c I can't find their deal breakdowns), the other signing bonuses and Jeb should only add about $10.5M to that $42.1M figure (Jeb was added). So around $52.5M with 5 players and any dead money from 2 voided deals to be added in. At the absolute extreme you'd have to say $70M, plus any roster or workout bonuses, and the 2005 draft class to be added in. Trev and Warren are going to be counted against it until TP is gone and Warren's officially voids, so I'm sure a beat writers would say they're up against the cap in '06 if it is looked at now, but if you break it down, it doesn't look like that will be the reality. 2. Brown hasn't signed with anyone and is probably more likely to sign with Washington unless we overpay. He's not worth it unless it is a small contract loaded with incentives. 3. Gold doesn't play on the D-Line last I checked. That would be like saying we didn't need Champ last year because we had Rod Smith and Al Wilson. 4. S. Cody is a hell of a player that is one of the few DL's in the draft that could probably step in and help the team immediately in '05 IMO. |
