Default Jays Mock Draft, Post Combine Addition

1) San Francisco – QB Aaron Rodgers, QB, Cal
Primary needs – OL, DL, CB, S
Secondary needs – QB, WR
Team strengths -- LB
Commentary – The team doesn’t necessarily need a quarterback. If they end up staying where they are, there is a good chance that it means that they think they need to upgrade at the position and they will go in that direction. Rattay doesn’t have the size and arm strength that you’d wish your franchise QB would have, and he hasn’t been durable. San Francisco has been heard to favor the polished local boy Rodgers over the more athletic, but raw Alex Smith of Utah.

2) Miami – OT Alex Barron, Florida St
Team primary needs – RB, OL, S
Team secondary needs – QB, DL, WR, LB
Team strengths CB
Commentary – In a draft that is deep at running back, Miami goes after what is really their biggest need at the top of the draft. The team desperately needs to improve up front in order for anything to happen offensively. Barron’s stock is back on the rise again.

3) Cleveland – LB Derrick Johnson, Texas
Team primary needs – OT, QB, CB, DE
Secondary needs – DT, LB, S
Team strengths – RB, TE
Commentary – Johnson is a great player for Clevelend to rebuild their defense around. A great all-around linebacker, Johnson will help to improve the defense tremendously.

4) Chicago – RB Ronnie Brown, Auburn
Team primary needs – WR, OT, DT
Team secondary needs – TE, OG, LB, S, CB
Team strengths – DE, LB, Mike Brown
Commentary – The pick is going to be offense here. The signing of Muhammad makes wide receiver less of a necessity. Brown is everything that Thomas Jones was supposed to be and a whole lot more.

5) Tampa Bay – WR Braylon Edwards, Michigan
Team needs – DT, DE, S, OL
Team secondary needs – RB, WR, TE, QB
Commentary – With Tampa flirting with Blaylock as a free agent, it doesn’t appear that they would also spend a high pick on a running back. Edwards’ stock is high, and Tampa has the need.

6) Tennessee – RB Cedric Benson, Texas
Team needs – DL, OL, CB
Team secondary needs – QB, WR, TE, LB
Commentary – Tennessee does not think that Brown can carry the load in their offense and Benson is the best available player on the board at this pick.

7) Minnesota – WR Mike Williams, USC
Team needs – defense, WR
Srengths – OL, RB, QB
Commentary – Minnesota is in love with Williams. If he’s there, they don’t pass on him.

8) Arizona – CB Antrelle Rolle, Miami
Team needs – RB, OL, DL, QB
Team secondary needs – LB, S, CB, TE
Team strengths -- WR
Commentary – After trading Starks, Arizona goes with the top corner on the board here and rebuilds a young secondary.

9) Washington – Erasmus James, DE, Wisconsin
Team needs – DL, OL, WR
Secondary Needs – S, QB, LB, TE
Commentary – After losing Smoot and missing out on some of the top free agent corners, adding to the pass rush would be a wise investment.

10) Detroit – CB Carlos Rodgers, Auburn
Team needs – S, CB, LB, OG
Secondary needs – DE, DT, QB, TE, OT, WR
Strengths – WR, RB,
Commentary – Rodgers has seen his stock skyrocket after an impressive combine. Detroit has respectable corners, but none of them have the total athletic package that Rodgers brings to the table. Just a good value pick here.

11) Dallas – QB Alex Smith, Utah
Team needs – DL, CB, SS, WR
Team secondary needs – QB, RB
Commentary – It is doubtful that Dallas is truly looking at Bledsoe as more than a short-term solution to their quarterback problems. Henson did not have a roaring debut in the previous season. Taking Smith here is good value, and it provides for the future.

12) San Diego (via NYG) – DE, Marcus Spears, LSU
Team needs – OL, secondary, WR, LB
Commentary – San Diego could use some bolstering on their front line. Spears will help to provide a pass rush from this spot and still be an extremely solid anchor against the run.

13) Houston – OLB Shawn Merriman, Maryland
Team needs – DT/DE, S, OL
Team secondary needs – WR, LB, CB
Commentary – Houston would love to add a pass rusher of Merriman’s quality to their linebacking corps.

14) Carolina – TE Heath Miller, Virginia
Team needs – OL, S, LB
Team secondary needs – RB, TE, WR
Commentary – Going defense here would be very tempting, as there are some quality players on the board, but Miller is a nice weapon to open things up for the outside receivers and a good choice at this point in the draft.

15) Kansas City – CB Adam “PacMan” Jones, West Virginia
Team needs – defense, WR
Commentary – Great value at a position of need. He could also contribute on special teams, but it’s not a huge need, with Dante Hall in the house already.

16) New Orleans – DT Anttaj Hawthorne, Wisconsin

Team needs – LB, CB, S
Team secondary needs, WR, DL, QB, TE

Commentary – The team needs better play from its interior and its not getting it from former first rounder John Sullivan. The team tries again to get a playmaker at the position.

17) Cincinnati – DT Travis Johnson, Florida St
Secondary needs – OG, C, defense
Commentary – The team has all kinds of young talent on offense. Defensively, the team struggled stopping the run and rushing the passer and it all starts up front. As an all-around interior presence, Johnson should help with both at the same time. The team will need to address the pass rush as well, but Johnson should help out overall.

18) Minnesota – S Thomas Davis, Georgia
Team needs – defense
Commentary – There is still some doubt on whether Davis will be able to play safety in the Pros. His best position might actually be on the outside at linebacker, but he’s a playmaker and will help to further bolster a defense that has been helped in free agency.

19) St. Louis – DE David Pollack, Georgia
Team needs – OL, DL, CB, S
Commentary – St Louis has struggled to put pressure on the passer since the departure of Grant Winstrom in free agency. They take a major step forward with the high-motor Pollack here.

20) Dallas (via Buffalo) – S Brodney Pool, Oklahoma
Team needs – DL, CB, SS, WR
Team secondary needs – QB, RB
Commentary – Dallas takes the opportunity to complete the picture in the secondary.

21) Jacksonville – DE Dan Cody, Oklahoma
Team needs – DE, OL, CB
Team secondary needs – TE, WR
Commentary – The Jags need a top defensive end to rush the passer. Cody is a high-effort guy that will get the job done.

22) Baltimore – WR Marc Clayton, Oklahoma
Team needs – WR, CB, DL, FS
Commentary – Even with the addition of Mason, Clayton is a nice addition here. He has done nothing but impress in the off-season after a very productive college career.

23) Seattle – RB Carnell Williams, Auburn
Team needs – DL, secondary, LB, WR, RB
Commentary – Seattle can’t believe their luck finding a player like the Cadillac available this late. It may remind some of when Alexander slipped to them years ago.

24) Green Bay – LB Kevin Burnett, Tennessee
Team needs – LB, DL, S
Secondary needs – G, QB, TE, CB
Commentary – The Packers would like to continue to get faster on defense. Burnett is a huge addition to a linebacking corps that will end up being the anchor of the defense.

25) Denver – CB Justin Miller, Clemson
Team needs – TE, WR, DL
Team secondary needs – CB, S, QB
Commentary – Even with Champ in the fold, the team needs more talent at the position.

26) New York Jets – CB Marlin Jackson, Michigan
Team needs – S, CB, TE
Team secondary needs – LB, WR, RB
Commentary – Cover-2 corners don’t necessarily have to have great straight line speed. Jackson is a nice addition here.

27) Atlanta – ILB Channing Crowder, Florida
Team needs – OL, DL, S, WR
Commentary – Atlanta needs to continue to increase their speed and talent on defense.

28) San Diego – OLB DeMarcus Ware, Troy State
Team needs – OL, secondary, WR, LB
Commentary – More talent to an already young and improving defense.

29) Indianapolis – LB Odell Thurmon, Georgia
Team needs – secondary, DL, LB, RB
Commentary – A top notch player to build around on defense.

30) Pittsburgh – CB Brandon Browner, Oregon St.
Team needs – secondary, OL, WR, RB
Commentary – The ferocious pass rush often protects corners that can be burned at times. Browner brings versatility and athleticism to this group.

31) Philadelphia – G David Baas, Michigan
Team needs – RB, DL, LB
Secondary Needs -- OL
Commentary – Many scouts are touting Baas as the best lineman in this year’s class. Philly scoops him up and doesn’t look back.

32) New England – OT Khalif Barnes, Washington
Team needs – CB, OL, LB
Commentary – Does New England really NEED anything? Bolstering an offensive line that is high on technique and low on talent is a solid place to go.
