Who cares what we did against the Patriots if we can't get past the Colts?

when you barely lose (and gave it away in fact) with your backup, its a pretty good indicator that your team isnt far away.

when you finish 6-10, you may want to question a coach saying they were close.
when you finish with back to back 10-6 seasons (with this last one being a few PLAYS away from 12-4 and division winners), its pretty clear that you ARE in fact close.

jake
Agreed. But at this point I feel it slipping away. Moving D.J. would be a travesty IMO. None of these defensive moves make sense to me . Except the Warren signing. Jake will do well ifTatum stays healthy. That won't make a damn if our D is bumfuzzled. If we flop this year Shanny has to go.

I don't remember any.

which season, in the last 6 years, were we not a couple of injuries or big plays away from winning our division?

we've lost 3 playoff games. so that's not good enough. but find me one team in this league that would be favored to win a playoff game @ the 2000 Ravens or @ the Colts. the home-field advantage they get (with help from the refs) especially in a playoff game, is almost insurmountable.

the biggest thing we need is the offensive juggernaut we had in the day. and that requires the chemistry, experience, and talent we had in the SB runs. it requires a QB with the ability AND a few years in the system. it requires more than 1 or 2 starting receivers. it requires good-to-great play at the FB and TE positions (this has been a serious issue for us). and it requires a consistent pass-rush. we got lucky with old Al Williams and the ex-Chief DE (can't remember his name). but the old pass-rushers these days want 10-mill, they won't sign a sweetheart deal to play for a contender. and when they do, we end up with IHOP.

you gotta get lucky to win a superbowl. and you've got to have a pretty good team. we've been getting half of that right ever since 98.
I think we've had the talent...just not the luck.
Every year since Elway left, we've had nasty major injuries to our top players...that keep us from making that SB run...and that includes Jake .

[QUOTE=orange 4 life]
we lost at home to oakland because the friggin stars werent aligned properly.
.[/QUOTE

I guess the stars weren't aligned for the Bengal game either? I was at that game man. That was one of the hardest losses of the season IMO. I got there the day there before the game and wore my Broncos colors. Nobody in that city thought the Bengals would win including me. Everywhere I went the locals would say "Take it easy on us".

Anyway a superbowl caliber team wouldn't have lost that game. Jake there are just two many ifs in your scenario as to why we did not win the superbowl. I'm not saying we don't have a chance next year. Hell I've been homering on since the late 70's and every year I think we have a shot at winning. But it's time for this team to take some chances to get us to the next level. That is my point. I think Shanny and Co have been playing it safe the last few years.

I do agree with you that it might have been different let's say if we had travelled to SD for our playoff game but I don't think we would have gotten much further than that.

cinci was a tough one for sure, but even in the years we DID go to the superbowls (the losses and the wins) we had a game or two that we blew. games which shouldve been easy.
remember new york in '98?
remember new england losing to MIAMI last year?

a letdown game will happen.

its winning those games like jville and oakland that are the difference between our success and failure.

its a pass rush thats the difference of how successful we can be in the playoffs.
you posted our rankings for the superbowl years and now.
did you notice that last years rankings werent that much worse?

do you doubt we couldve beaten anyone last year even WITHOUT a pass rush except indy?
indy was the one team i didnt want to see. BAD matchup problems, and on the road.
anyone else and who knows?
12-4 with home games and who knows?

bottom line pal is we're not that far away

Here is what I want to see:

1- we stop chasing free agents...period

2- we draft well

3-we develop our own talent

4- we keep our talent

5- if we lose our talent, we draft and develop more talent.

The lack of a core is our problem. Any questions, see Pittsburgh...that is exactly what i want! They almost never have a good draft spot and they are always good.

I cant still believe you go with the luck and pass rush stuff.

The Broncos were what they were and that was it. I cant believe you bring in the superbowl teams and the let downs they had. Teams all have letdowns but they had better records and had better teams. They won games when they had to Jake. We were 10-6 and a weaker a team and far too weak.

Unless we make drastic improvements, I see us just running in the same place or digressing.

Pittsburgh has how superbowls in the last 20 years? Notice the pattern in Pittsburgh: play a last place schedule get into the playoffs. Play playoff shedule next year miss the playoffs. then make the playoff the next year.

This one from our fearless leader is pretty interesting, given that we DID go 13-3 last season...

Yeah but what about that statement! That's some brilliant stuff right there!

We keep up the play calling and piss poor play and we'll be complaining about Jay like we did Jake.

MCD sucks, Marshall is a trouble maker, Royal can't get open, Orton blows, Cutler is a HOFer, Shanny is best ever, Hillis first ballot HOF, Scheffler best TE ever to suit up, Moss just has had poor coaching and they won't turn him loose, DJ is the best ever multi position LB, Alphonso Smith was an abortion, anything else? Might as well start over from the sound of thegarbage attitudes and lack of football discussion outside of bickering lets revisit. It is fitting with the finish to the season. Who wants to the fuse lit?

It's time to break this thread out again. Giving up 59 at home to a POS team in grounds for firing. I think I might have just turned on the kid. This is a garbage team.
