DU gets revenge over Minnesota State
Denver gets revenge on Minnesota State
MANKATO, Minn. — Jeff Drummond scored two goals and had an assist as top-ranked Denver scored four times in the first period en route to a 5-2 victory over Minnesota State, Mankato, on Saturday and a split of their series.
Drummond scored his first goal 84 seconds into the game before Kevin Ulanski and Luke Fulghum scored on a six-on-four power play to make it 3-1 with 1:58 left in the period. Drummond scored again on a power play 26 seconds later to cap the four-goal streak.
Maverick goalie Chris Clark was pulled after the first period and replaced with Jon Volp.
Brad Thompson scored with 2:21 left in the second period for Mankato (11-17-6, 8-16-4 WCHA). Travis Morin cut the deficit to two with a goal 5:54 in the third period.
Matt Carle closed scoring 1:44 later with a goal for the Pioneers (23-8-2, 18-6-2).
Peter Mannino had 32 saves for Denver while Clark and Volp combined for 26 saves for the Mavericks, who won 8-5 on Friday.
