Default And then there was Magglio

Only one high profile free agent left on the market now. Unfortunately he's represented by devilspawn Scott Boras.

From CBSSportsline.com:

Quote:
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Rangers are considering signing Magglio Ordonez (knee). The outfielder notes that he is not willing to accept a one-year deal at a reduced rate and he will not play designated hitter. "The market place has been very aggressive for him," said agent Scott Boras. "You're talking about a guy who hit .300 with about 30 home runs and over 100 RBI for five straight years."
(Updated 01/26/2005).
Quote:
While that's true, you are also talking about a guy that suffered with a mysterious injury known as bone marrow edema in his knee and he is coming off of two knee surgeries to repair cartilage. The Mets, Cubs, Blue Jays, Orioles and Tigers seem to be in competition with the Rangers for Ordonez's services. With the Marlins' signing of Carlos Delgado on Tuesday, Ordonez remains the last high-profile free agent available, which could certainly work to his advantage, regardless of his health.
(Updated 01/26/2005).
Its a shame this knee injury came out of nowhere. This guy was in the middle of a brilliant career.

I'd love to know what Boras is pulling down a year. Beltran, Ordonez, Varitek, and whole bunch more I can't think of.

Scary $$$$$$$.

I've been hearing that Magglio is real close to getting a deal done with the Tigers...

That would be cool. I'd like to see the Tiger fans have something to root for again. They really went through hell a couple years ago.

Ever since Alan Trammell took over the managerial position for Detriot 3 years ago, they've kinda been headed in the right direction...Adding players like Troy Percival and Ivan Rodriguez helps out the fanbase...They were even in the hunt for Carl Pavano and Steve Finley...They've kind been quiet since signing Percy but, if they could land Maggz, they'd be much improved...and last year they lost 90 games, which was a 29 game improvement from the year prior...the second-best turnaround for a team in the AL since it expanded in 1961...

It would be nice to see Mags sign with the Tigers so he can stuff it in Jerry Reindorf's face eighteen times a season.

Over the last six seasons, Mags was the second best outfielder in the Junior Circuit (Manny Ramirez) and has been one of the most underappreciated sluggers in baseball.

I hope he beats his career threatening knee injury and comebacks with a bang.

i agree. **** Jerry Reinsdorf and especially Ken Williams. I have nothing but good wishes for Mags. He was a damn good player for several years.

News
Free agent outfielder Magglio Ordonez is on the verge of signing a five-year, $75 million deal with the Tigers, Newsday reported.

This doesn't mean much until we see definitive word from the Tigers, but it sounds like the Mets are pretty sure Maggs won't be joining them. We'll provide more fantasy insight when this deal is done.
