I agree, Cliff kept the band "real" and if he would've been alive, there is NO WAY that crap on the Black Album would've been released....nor would they have teamed up with Bob freakin' Rock. I hate him.

...and Justice for All was still good b/c Cliff's influence was on that album.

Agreed on Justice for All. Cliff had written the lines and Newstead pussified it. Once they had a chance they went for the 100% pussification factor on the Black Album.

Garage Days Re-visited? Garage Inc?? Phleeze....sure it serves a purpose for introducing metalheads to great bands like Killing Joke, The Anti-Nowhere League and the vastly superior Motorhead...but Metalica's performances of those band's material never rises above being a butchering.....and I'm being much kinder than I should be when I say that.

Like other misguided hackjobs (like say GnR's The Spaghetti Incident? ) it opens doors for those who would never otherwise hear the material.....and that's about it.

There's an added 40 minutes on a feature, deleted scenes, band commentary and interviews etc. all good stuff.

But since we're talking about Metallica albums in order of preference, here's mine:

1.) Master of Puppets(my fave Metallica song is on the CD, sanitarium, not a bad song on it.)

2.) ...and justice for all (Blackened, to live is to die, one etc.)

3.) Ride the Lightning (Just cause fade to black is such a great song if nothing else)

4.) Kill em all (Hit the lights is my fave song on that CD, four horsemen is a close second)

5.) Black Album (I still loved this CD, though it seemed to be their decline)

then the others are jsut there, good CD's but not what they used to be.

I see your point, which is why I said, the only reason that album wasn't bad b/c they didn't write it

What?

They butchered classic material, knowingly or not, that was the result.

Those albums weren't just bad, they were an outright insult.

oh and Jason Newstead and Dave Mustaine deserve each other. Those two have major issues.

I find it funny that after metallica ran out of mustaine's songs, they sucked... i wonder if that is a coincidence?

actually you need to remember, that they turned down the bass on newstead for a long time. Blame it on lars & james.

Hmmm, I just disagree

I wasn’t fond of the 1st disc on Garage Days Inc…..BUT it had 2 decent redos IMO, I realize it’s just my opinion however

But the first Garage Days that was an EP back in 88 was good, all those songs were good on that album.

on ride the lightning?

heh, you better read up on some stuff

http://www.metallicaworld.co.uk/dave_mustaine.htm

Dave Mustaine was born on September the 13th 1961 in La Mea, California. He joined the band in late 1981 and remained with them until 11 April 1983. During his short time in Metallica, Dave Mustaine (lead guitar) toured with the band, co-wrote several songs which were later featured on the albums "Kill 'Em All" and "Ride The Lightning" and recorded several songs with the band, including the "No Life Til Leather" demo tape.

You can search and find more yourself.

I suppose it is who you believe really…Mustaine (who has a severe anger problem and has major issues with the members of Metallica) or Metallica

I forgot that he wrote the music for call of Katulu on Ride the Lightining, but most of the lyrics were Hetfield….most of the album was Hetfield and Ulrich.

Most Megadeth fans claim Master of Puppets was all written by Mustaine, I don’t believe it, mostly b/c I haven’t heard anything that Megadeth put out that compares to Metallica’s early work.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Megadeth, but they weren’t ½ the band Metallica was during the mid to late 80’s metallica was.

Maybe I’m a Metallica homer, but I don’t take Mustaine’s claims seriously.

And kirk is not anywhere near the song writer (musically) or a guitar player.. . he got really lazy

STAY AWAY FROM THE BLACK ALBUM. It is evil, if you play it backwards it still sucks. Go with the aforementioned earlier works, ride the lightning, kill'em all, and master of puppets. DO NOT SEEK THE BLACK ALBUM

Have you seen what 12+ million people put at the top of the charts in the past 35 years or so?

Believe me, they can be wrong and most often are.
