Default Corpse Bride

Anyone else looking forward to this movie? It's scheduled for Halloween '05. It does appear to be rehashing the look and feel of Nightmare Before Christmas (no surprise, since they're both Tim Burton films), but it should be fun. I really like the stop-motion movies and am glad to see a new one being made. The Rankin & Bass stop-motions were terrific - Year Without a Santa Claus, Mad Monster Party. I showed my nephews Nightmare Before Christmas and now we have to watch it every time they visit. Here's a trailer for The Corpse Bride -

It looks like stop motion, but I think it's really computer animation, and very Well done. I'm not sure if I understand Burton's fascination with the macabre tho...

The company that is making this movie swears there is no CGI in the trailer and will not be any in the movie. I too thought it looked too smooth to be completely free of any computer assistance, but they say they didn't even use computers to create blur between frames. Blur is often used to make stop-motion look seamless (eliminates the jerking). I have seen production shots and they are using the same type of models they used in Nightmare Before Christmas (with replaceable heads for multiple facial expressions), but it does look much smoother this time around so either techniques have improved a lot or there is some computer tweaking.
*The company making this is Vinton Studios. They are the animation firm that used to be run by Will Vinton of Claymation fame. The man behind the California Raisin commercials...if you're old enough to remember.

Wow. I'm that much more impressed. Although I wonder why they'd use such an archaic production technique, maybe they have an affinity for the old school. I thought the lighting and mouth movements were a dead giveaway for computer animation. It looks too perfect.

Yes, I am plenty old to remember the rasins. 37 in two months...

Another of Will Vinton's creations was the The Noid....

Remember this guy? He was in Domino's Pizza ads in the late '80s. He was very popular and a terrific marketing success. They sold Noids merchandise and even made a Noids video game. The Noid enterprise came to a screeching halt when a man dressed in a Noid costume was beaten to death by a gang of hoodlums. Or so the story goes....

Tim Burton is very good, but I swear that he, Johnny Depp, and Danny Elfman were those Goth wirdos at your school in another life.

Early to Mid eighties. I used to love Oingo Boingo. Reptiles and Samurai. Danny Elfman is a sick genious.
