It seems to be the best kept secret on the Mane... One which has brought me much comedy.

Her's were sexual in nature. I'm pretty sure your boss would have fired you on the spot if he saw them. He'd think you were looking at a gay porn sight.

What I'm not comfortable with is not bringing in a back-up plan in the event that Jake continues to cost us more than he delivers. And here we come to the point of contention. Some think that Jake is not costing us more than he delivers. With ten wins, they've got a good argument... except that eight of those are a given. If you can't win 8 games in this league in a season as a veteran, you're not going to make it in this league period.

It's what happens past those first 8 wins that counts the most, particularly the ones that happen in December. Which is where the source of all Jake-doubt originates. Unless you can make a case that Jake didn't collapse in December, you have to give the Jake-doubters their concern. It's legitimate and demonstrated in the statistics.

After those first 8 wins, we went 2-6, and in our losses, Jake rated out at 67.6, which is just above his 61.5 December rating (Including 9 December Interceptions). It blows my mind that with all of this evidence, not to mention what we watched on the field through December, that anyone could begrudge anyone else on their doubts about Jake.

And that's basically where this conversation lay. Everybody basically accepts that we have to resign Jake. What everybody doesn't agree upon is just how much he's proven.
This has to be the silliest post ever of your's TJ.

Quick someone tell Miami, Cleveland, Houston, Tennessee, Kansas City, Oakland, Dallas, Washington, New York Giants, Detroit, Chicago, Carolina, Tampa Bay, St Louis, Arizona, San Francisco, New Orleans, Minnesota and Cincinnati that they need to immediately cut there Quarterbacks because they are not NFL material. That's 19 quarterbacks that must go according to TJ's theory. Seems to me there are a few pretty good Quarterbacks that could only manage 8 or less wins.

I thought TJ specifically mentioned avatars such as that and said they would not be tolerated since we have users at work and younger people?

I did change my mind. I think a little better of Jake than I did.

That being said I like Taco's avatar because it at least has a point of view. The funny thing is even if they go all the way next year the spin on that is they had to get around Jake to get there. Perfect. How are you going to argue around that?

Shanny has a backup plan. 3 actually, UnKanny Danny, Lucy Van Pelt, and Mattermock.

who do you think is a better investment for a long-term heir apparent? bring back Jeff Lewis? Nefarious? maybe we can get Cade McNown or Ryan Leaf?

I'm 100% positive that if a QB Shanny likes is available and interest in Denver, Shanny will bring him into a camp and kick his tires. I'm still trying to figure out what you want TJ, it sounds like you really just want to whine & pout and kick your feet a little beause Denver didn't win another superbowl this year.

This is crazy. Nobody can think of a better option than Jake. This is the best of the 1163 posts so far.

let's start with current NFL starters:

McNabb,Brees,Pennington,Vick,McNair, Favre

5 guys I would hand the job to, no questions asked, if we could pick them up before we pay Jake. and I like Jake. but we aren't getting these guys, except maybe Brees, and he's the least sure thing in the bunch. he got alot of help from Gates & LT this year, not to mention a total surprise in the other 2 phases of the game.

Manning, Culpepper, Rothlisburger, Green, Bulger, Brady, Hasslebeck, Leftwich, Brooks, Garcia, Bledsoe, Collins, Gannon, Kitna, Boller, Brunell, Maddox, Dilfer, Delhomme

Peyton and Dante are untouchables, unavailable, and wouldn't necessarily fit our system. but they're not worth talking about. of the rest on that list, Roth, Delhomme, Green, Bulger, Brady, Leftwich, Boller, and Brooks, are basically unavailable as well. Hasslebeck will be tagged or signed, cuz there's nothing else in Seattle right now, and the dropsies is their O's biggest problem. Garcia might be interesting for a few years, but he's a bit feminine for my tastes... Bledsoe/Collins/Maddox/Dilfer don't have the mobility required behind our mediocre pass protection, Gannon is too old, and should retire, so after looking at 24 QB's that can be considered starters, I've found 2 possibilities. Brees, who will cost an ARM and a LEG, and Brunell, who everybody thinks is washed up after his stint with the Redskins this year. I'd still like to see what Shanny could do with him, but he's a little too old to start now. plus he's a lefty, which makes things really complicated during the 'competition' period, constantly flipping the entire playbook depending on whether the righty or lefty is back there.... but I could get behind throwing a mill at Brunell and seeing if he's got anything left...

my no-thanks list includes the following journeymen and never-weres: Shane Mathews, Quincy Carter, Kelly Holcomb, Griese-ball, Warner, Flutie, Rod Peete, Rattay, Banks, Testaverde, Maddox, Jeff Blake, Chris Chandler, Gus-Gus,

age, baggage, etc. is a reason to cross most of these off.

maybes?
Brad Johnson, Billy Volek, Kitna, David Garrard, Fiedler, Shaun King, McMahon,

BJ- has WON a superbowl (like Dilfer), then lost his starting job (like Dilfer). fragile. if he can run Gru's offense, he can probably do alright in ours.
BV- the heir apparent in Tenn, and McNair ain't got too many years left. probably untouchable.
Jon Sh(K)itna- fun to watch, emotional guy, can't handle adversity, chokes under pressure, throws lots of picks, basically, Griese without the smarts... no thanks.
Garrard? don't know much about him. reliable backup that never gets to play much
Fiedler- great if you want to win 10 games and miss the playoffs or choke when you get there..
Shaun King-always liked the guy, but he's a midget. probably wouldn't do well in our system.
Mike McMahon- Lions-fans love him. he's got backup-QB syndrome. luckily the guys in Detroit aren't going to listen to the fans, and they'll start the better QB (Harrington). might be worth getting if he's available, but he's probably not.

other young starters that might need a new home in a few years, but aren't available now: Harrington, Carr, Palmer, Ramsey, McCown, Grossman, Simms, Dorsey, Feeley,

wouldn't mind taking a chance on any of these guys, except maybe for Simms. seems like the only thing he's got is measurables and nepotism. never played well in college, hasn't done crap in the pros either. the rest of 'em got potential, some more than others.

thoughts anyone? where's this 'competition' going to come from?
Is there a better option?

Nobody has a single good answer to any of our QB problems. Instead, I'm basically reading, "Jake sucks" and "No, he doesn't" back and forth. You guys have brought up some good points about Jake himself. I actually think a little less of the guy because of this thread, but where are the solutions?

Ah... but therein lies the truth of the reader. I think this thread was intended to be about what Jake needs to do to improve not what can be done to improve on Jake.

I say we live or die by Jake's arm.

I just have slightly less confidence than I did 11 days ago when this thread was started.

I don't know about that. I think TJ's assertion is that we need to bring someone else in who would push him for the starting job. If this new guy turns out to be better than Jake, then Plummer should be out of a job. I don't think we'll be able to find someone that would push Plummer out of the starting job, but some people do think that way.

I don't. I think jake is a 10-12 game winner here in denver. Does he do stupid $hit. Yes.

Finding someone in F/A - you could have options as a backup - kitna, bledsoe (who IMO needs a big OL to keep the pocket, and our OL i don't think that is our strength) - Jay fiedler are the only options i can think of who'd be decent for backup jobs.

Some how i think a thread with jake as the subject will have no problems with that.

i think we should draft a guy to either mold, or spend some $$$ getting a guy like kitna, or fiedler as the #2

I wouldn't say they cross the line. Her avatars are just pictures of men not wearing much. She had one of a guy in speedos. I don't think they are over the line. Just something that guy's really don't want to look at.

Well, then, allow me to assist, Baja.

Reportedly, Gus Frerotte might be available soon... we could re-acquire him to compete with Kanell for the backup position...

(this is guaranteed to evoke a response from Errand... )
