Buzz, best of luck with everything. It just was time for a change.

Cooper's first game as head coach is Friday against the Sixers.

Doesn't surprise me. I was listening to Buzz on jocktalk on the way in and thought how much longer can his ticket possibly last? Guess it got punched....

I don't follow the NBA very closely, but the writing was on the wall when they signed Cooper. As a coach his stock was rising, and Kiki made a pretty shrewd move.

Question is,

Is it too late for this team to turn it around with the injuries and lack of drive?
How are they reacting in Denver to the news?

Well, with 54 games left it's definately not too late.

I've been calling for Bz's head since last year, despite the playoff birth. I never liked him, and I'm ecstatic that he's out and Coop's in.

Coop has 0 NBA experience, but I think the players will respond to him. Part of that is due to him having 5 Rings. I posted this on the Nugs board and I'll say it again, if a gy with 5 NBA championship tells me to do something, I'd do it without a second thought. Even though playing ability doesn't always equal coaching ability, I think Championship experience will be a huge help. Plus, we've got 50+ games left. We can let Coop learn on the job, and give him an "audition," so to speak. If we don't like what we see, we get a new coach in the offseason.

Happy to see Coop finally get a chance. He was quite successful in the WNBA, so he's paid his dues. Seems like the shelf life for NBA coaches is about the same as convenience store milk these days.

LeBron is the man this year, but don't even get me started on his hype alone winning ROY last year. I like him, but I'm still a little sour about that.

Sorry DF, but Melo had better or equal stats and led his team to the playoffs in a much tougher Western Conference

In all honesty it should've been co-ROY's, and had Wade came on earlier in the season like he did at the end and in the playoffs, couldve been 3 ways.

ROY is not an MVP type award, which is given to playoff teams and how much they mean to their team and such, so because you made the playoffs doesnt mean that he should be ROY over LeBron.

Agreed, they should have shared it. And man I still feel bad for Wade. Any other year, he comes into the league and people would be slobbering over him. But coming in with 'Bron and 'Melo, he got screwed.

But winning has got to factor into it somehow, IMO. Both these franchises sucked equally the year before, and the Nugs took off because of 'Melo, at least last year.

Yep, but those 3 along with Amare Stoudamire have all established themselves as the new faces of the NBA and the guys that will carry this league for the next 10 years or so.

I am forgetting the draft, but which player did the Nugs take then trade away in round 1 last year? I know it was either Childress or Belson of Stanford, just forget which one.

I'm sure to some voters it does, but it's rookie of the year and not most valueble rookie so I'm not sure how many take winning into consideration.

I was still all for the co-ROY's, season wise they both individually had the same season. I'll take it though as LeBron is looking at another trophy this year, the MVP award(and that NBA championship trophy would be nice also but I'm not an optimist when it comes to the Cavs in the playoffs, seen them about 4 too many times get beat heartbreaking style.)

The Nuggets took Jameer Nelson and traded him to Orlando in this past draft.

Alright, thought it was Nelson but wasnt 100% sure. Just curious cause I watched the Cavs play Atlanta tonight and Josh Childress was looking real good out there for them.

Well, we're falling into the exact same argument that all the commentators and radio hosts and TV personalities got into last season.

It seems to me the arguments went as such:

"well, LeBron has had hype that nobody has ever had, he's out of high school, and he lived up to that hype."

"well, Carmelo took his team to the playoffs."

So it was an odd situation. If winning shouldn't matter, should "living up to the hype?" I personally think considering they had literally mirror stats (give or take a few tenths of percentages) they deserved to share it.

And I'm not a LeBron hater by any means, like some Nuggets fans/Melo homers are. He's a tremendous talent. And yes, he might very well take MVP. But as far as last year goes, 'Melo got kind of robbed. He deserved a share of that title.

I believe the Hawks took Childress on their own. I wish they were a better team and got on TV every once in a while, I'd like to see him play.

I can totally understand that as the votes shouldve been split and both shouldve had the ROY award. LeBron was also showcased more, so when Melo would put together a 22-7-5 game it would be "Melo had a great game" while LBJ puts together that same stat line and it's "Look at what LeBron did!! Hype? I don't think so people!!"

Basically what I'm getting at is the stats King James put together were talked about, highlighted, and made a big deal about moreso than Melo's stats and season. I think that played a big factor in it as well.

They are another player away from being a good team, we pulled it off in the 4th but they had us down for most of the game. I noticed that the Hawks can straight up shoot the ball, they just need better defense and ball control as Cleveland took advantage of those 2 problems and were able to overcome, but Hawks look like an up and coming team.

Imagine that, a team with Antoine Walker on it can be a good shooting team.
