Default Urban Meyer to Florida

ESPN Radio is reporting Urban Meyer has accepted the Florida coaching job. A formal announcement to be made later today.

That figures. Just when I was convinced the guy would go to ND, he pulls this...

Certainly a good solid kick in their crotch.....I'm guessing the Gators put up some major cash and a long term contract to get that done.

While he is currently saying he isn't a candidate and doesn't want to be, I bet ND starts putting the full court press on Gruden.

Condisering how little up and coming talent TB has in place I think Gruden would be making a very good career choice to look seriously at ND.

Outside of M.Clayton TB has nothing in place to be even remotely excited about for the future.

which one again goes to show the ghosts of ND are officially dead and buried now

ND isn't even a top 10 program anymore.

It's certainly not a top 10 team...but certainly still a top ten program. Florida probably topped the money offer a bunch if I had to guess...But Meyer might have choose the Gators due to the pressure being a little less, the schedule not as tough and recruiting a bit easier. Sure couldn't blame a person for that.

However if you win at ND as the HC you will be put on a pedestal unmatched by success at any other program...Monster fan base and your mug will be on national TV every single time you take the field.

I really don't understand the big deal however, I've won something like my 15th straight national title coaching ND last night on PS2....

Chris Mortenson said on the radio that Meyer went to interview with the ND AD and the search committee and they were very arrogant and condensending to him. He walked away thinking they were not the kind of people he felt comfortable working with.

Also the 2 Million a year offer from the Gators didn't hurt!

The Gators will be reborn under Urban! The Irish were so stupid to let Ty go. They got what was comiing to them.

I also heard a wacky rumor that Gainsville, Florida is much nicer in the fall than South Bend, Indiana...

it may very well be warmer but there is a reason gainesville is called "Hogtown". ND had Meyer and threw it away. What i have heard from very good sources is that Meyer liked ND and wanted to go there but he also wanted them to lower their admissions requirements. AD Kevin White and the school President "Monk" Malloy said no. Meyer than asked for just 5-6 exceptions per year to the requirement and the administration balked yet again. He apparently walked out furious yesterday. As reported above by other posters, UF then going significantly above ND's offer pretty much sealed it. Although i also heard that Meyer gave ND till today to "do something about it" (i.e. the Fla. Offer and the admissions/recruiting problem) and they didnt. So ND pissed it away. I think they will now go after Kirk Ferentz. ND will never be anything again until they lower those requirements. Thats just a fact folks. This is something Paul Hornug has talked about alot. I can tell you that even Miami has lost some very, very key recruits because of these issues and their requirements are significantly lower than Notre Dame's. Case in point, DT Nate Robinson, the consensus No. 1 DT in America two years ago, he was signed, sealed and delivered. The NCAA minimum SAT score is 800. Miami's is 820. Its still pretty low. Robinson scored 800 and the admissions department wouldnt let him in.
The combination of ND's admissions issues and the brutal schedule they play yearly because of historical rivalries (and no conference affilation) will always keep them around .500. They will have some years where they go 9-2, but 4 out of 5 years they will be around 4-8 wins.

In all honesty, it's not just the football stadium that should be called "the swamp" that entire city of Gainesville is a big toilet bowl.

Why would Meyer go into the toilet bowl called ND when Zook had a great class. He would of looked as stupid as ND. It was pretty classless to cut line before their bowl game at ND. Florida has so many better possibilities.

But the talent level, football and otherwise, is much better in Florida and its only a short drive to the beach.

This is true, although Gainesville is located in the middle of Florida so it is a good 45 min drive to the beach, but still, it's probably nicer in the fall because Florida wll be having about 3 more wins than ND on a regular basis.

45 minute drive is nothing. In South Bend he would have an twice that drive daily to live in a respectable neighborhood.

Hell yes I'm rooting for the Vols, they're my 2nd team, if one day OSU decides to shut down and never play football, I'd be a Vols fan.

As for Tennessee blowing, well they're 9-2 and have a chance to win the SEC later today, can either be said about your Virginia Cavaliers ?

Yeah, never been to South Bend so I wouldn't know the neighborhood, but been to Gainesville and it's a complete swamp all around. One of them booney cities where alligator hunting might be the 2nd bigfgest sport to Gator football, unless prostitution counts cause I saw a few of them standing on the corner at night as well(saw, not bought, just saw ).

Screw Urban Meyer. I hope he rots in hell. I hate him. I don't want that mother****er coaching the Utes in the Fiesta Bowl. He is an embrassment to the state of Utah.

I hope the Utes hire Bobby Ross, a proven winner, who can lead the team to the national championship.

I like to see Crowton run the Utes offense as an offensive coordinator.

Say how about those Buffs last night? They were better off staying home.

We will be fine without Urban. Urban will be exposed. Meanwhile when we have Bobby Ross in the sidelines, things will be fine. I trust Ross to take us to the next level.

Ross sure has done a bang up job at Army....If Meyer was such a bad coach and embarssment to the state of Utah I would think you would be glad he is leaving rather than being so pissed. For instance, DiNardo was a bad coach and an embarrassment to IU and I have been all smiles since he was fired.
