Default Gary Crowton Steps Down at BYU

You were right Jake, and not a moment too soon. I feel sorry for the guy, ti was his dream to coach at the school. There were a lot of people that hated him and he isn't a bad guy, just a mediocre coach.

We haven't had this many losing seasons for more than 20 years. Crowton also was very absolute about his coaching and muscled some of the assistants under Edwards out. Crowton was Edward's choice, according to Lavell Edwards, but he clearly wasn't able to cut it.

I'm curious who they'll let take the reigns. Its not going to be cake walk finding soemone who fits all the requirments.

He's not that bad of a coach. He could of had the Florida Job a couple years ago after his first year at BYU. He just can't get any talent. Crowton went to school with my parents at Orem high.

See I'm the opposite of you. His first year he was coasting on the residual effects of Lavel Edwards. We had some good talent this year and we couldn't capitalize on it and they played inconsistant. Its time for a refresher switch.

He isn't that good of a coach either. He is a mediocre coach at best. As far as not getting any talent that is not true. He had some excellent recruits. Crowton is not a bad guy but he simply wasn't getting the job done. He did the right thing stepping down. His fate was sealed when he lost to teams like UNLV and New Mexico, at home no less. The losses to USC, Boise State, and even Utah (this year) are ok. But the UNLV and N.M. games where killers. You can't say he didn't have the talent to beat those teams.

I'm guessing he would still be a good OC for a top program....Would you agree or do you think the rest of college football has caught up with his system?

Funny, the story here at home is: he was fired. He was fired and given the option to officially resign his post. He was a horrible coach. The Y deserves better.
