Basketball is back and not one thread yet!
Anywho, what do you guys who watch the NBA think so far? The Nuggets laid an egg on Tuesday, but I'm not worried about them yet... They were ice cold all over, those games will happen every once in a while to every team, just sucks it was opening night, on national TV... Anybody going to the Nuggets home opener tomorrow? I will be there. |

Tough night overall for the Nuggets. The Lakers attacked the strategy of running at Kobe and forcing him to give up the ball by constantly making the extra pass and finding the wide open man. It also doesn't help when you shoot 24% from the field in the 1st half and put yourself in a 19 point hole at the break.
Those issues are correctable. What worries me is that the Nuggets weakest position, 2 guard, just got even weaker now that Voshon Lenard appears to be out for the season with a torn achilles tendon. This could be the chance Demarr Johnson needs to shine, but if he doesn't step up I don't see any way Kiki won't be seeking a trade. Marcus Camby had a great night. 8 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Exactly what I want to see out of him. Only one game in so there's no worries yet. I'll be glued to my set to watch them take on the T-Mutts tomorrow night. |

Nuggets got a good win tonight. Carmelo hasn't really performed well since before last years playoffs. Makes you wonder, but hey KMART is the real deal.

Carmelo had a poor shooting night but his defense was much better and he also grabbed 14 rebounds. It looks as though the kid is figuring out that even if his shot isn't falling he can still do things to help the team win. He needs to be more aggressive and go to the basket more, but I was proud of his performance tonight.
Tonight we saw why the Nuggets picked up Kenyon Martin. Slow start (0-5 from the field) but came on like crazy in the 2nd half. He ends up with 18 points, 13 rebounds and the play that seemed to galvanize the team, sticking up for Earl Boykins after Cassell gave him a shot after the whistle. I couldn't be happier with K-Mart, he did his job beautifully. Boykins had the clutch shot, Miller was outstanding early, Dermarr Johnson was pretty invisible, Buckner was irrelevant to the proceedings and I'm convinced that Kiki has to make a deal for a 2 guard. We don't need a superstar (though I keep dreaming of Ray Allen), just someone who can friggin' shoot. Hard fought, gutsy win. A much needed win after the ridiculously poor showing in the opener. Now for a home and home with the Jazz. |

Nuggets got lucky last night. K-Mart should've been tossed for the retaliation on Cassell. Count on him missing a game or two.

Garnett is a great player, but his tough guy act is about as genuine as a $5 Rolex. Stop with the mean faces and flapping your mouth KG, no one is intimidated by you. Stick to playing basketball.
Elson getting a technical for swatting the ball and catching KG on the follow through was garbage. Of course the big chick had to jump up and pretend he was gonna do something about it before going into his usual theatrics. The referees made up for the senseless ejection of Elson by returning the favor with Cassell. Another real tough guy there, taking a cheap shot at the smallest player in the NBA after the whistle. I'm glad that K-mart put that freakish looking little whiner in his place. Best of luck to Sprewell on finding a way to feed his kids though. In this sluggish economy I guess $14 million a year just doesn't go as far as it used to. |

What an awesome game last night! It's great to see Earl come up with the shot to win the game. He made up for missing the two free throws that would have probably won it for us without going into OT. Kenyon looked great. Fierce on the defensive side and just dunking over people on offense. Both Marcus and Andre had great games as well. Carmelo will be alright if he stops settling for jumpshots. I get so tired of seeing him hold on to the bal, jab step a couple of times, and then pull up for a jumpshot. Carmelo is at his best when he is taking it to the hoop, not sitting at the three point line.
Who do you think we are going to start at the two guard on Saturday? It seems like we really don't have anyone who is any better than the other? I would like to see them move Carmelo to the two and put Rodney White at the three or vice versa. That at least gives us an outside shooter. Has anybody heard anything about Altitude and Comcast? I hope that they get this deal done before Saturday. Too bad all the games aren't on national television. |

Big game tonight. I really hope that the Nuggets play a lot better than they played on Saturday. I hope that Carmelo stops shooting jumpshots. PLEASE!!! I can't take another 2 for 1000000000 that he has been shooting. I want to see a better defensive effort, and more passing on the offense. It's all about being a team, and so far, they have only had one good game. And as always, RUN, RUN, RUN, and RUN.

Kiki, for the love of Christ, get us someone who can f'n shoot.
Nuggets trailing by 15 at the half, shooting 40% from the field, 8/14 from the foul line and a total of 2 fast break points. Bzdelik will end up taking the fall for this and it's a damn shame. He's got no 2 guard, his best big man off the bench is laboring with a hamstring injury and his best player has been doing his Ron Mercer impression lately. On the bright side K-Mart is a bad dude. Let's hope they find their pride at halftime. |

What pisses me off is they are always standing around and half arsing it. Melo is scaring me the kid hasn't done shiat since before the series against the Timberwolves last year. I was worried when they sat him out in the olympics but thought it was just growing pains he really seems to mentally beat himself it doesn't help that he has no vert.

I hate Bzdelik, I want his ass fired personally.
But yes we need a shooter. I think this coming offseason a couple of good guys will become available, so we'll see. |

Melo actually came alive in the 2nd half. Much more aggressive, much better shot selection and he added 8 rebounds & 4 steals to his team-leading 17 points. He's showing signs of coming out of this funk, he just has to stop falling in love with his jumper. It was so nice to see him attacking the basket & posting up for the majority of the time he was in there (he played very little in the 1st half due to foul trouble).
Andre Miller is a very good point guard as long as he doesn't shoot from outside of 10 feet. Boykins is all heart and energy, but it doesn't help much when no one else wants to sprint back on the break with him. K-Mart is a beast. Camby is much quieter out of the gate this year. The bench is spotty and streaky, though Bryon "he pushed off" Russel had a decent game tonight. It was good to see that they didn't just roll over tonight like they did on Saturday. They made a big run in the 4th but the defecit was too great. No time to worry about it, the Sonics await at Pepsi Center tomorrow night. |

The problem with Melo, it seems to me, is that last year he was hitting that shot he takes... You know, he'll give a little jab-step fake, and then launch it from like 17 feet... He was hitting that consistently last year, and so far, he hasn't been. Once he gets back into his groove and hits that shot again, he'll be scary. But yes, posting up, slashing to the basket, is key for him right now while his shot is off. I noticed him late in the 4th forget to box out, but overall I'm pleased with his rebounding and defense as it has improved a lot from last year. |

I've never been a huge basketball fan in terms of following a team so I've just said that the Nuggets were my team, but honestly it's tough not to like and follow the Cavs now considering who they have and all the publicity they get here in Cleveland.

What has happened to our shooting? During preseason, we had a great offense while shooting around 50%. Now, it seems like we can't buy a bucket. I have no idea why there has been such a drastic change. To me, it still seems like we do not move the ball enough. That and none of the players seem to be moving away from the ball. As soon as someone gets it, everyone else stands there and watches him do something. Then, the player that has the ball will hold it for the majority of the 24 seconds, and then they try to jack up some stupid shot that they should never take.
What's up with the fastbreak? Aren't we supposed to be a running team, so well conditioned that nobody else can keep up with us? I have yet to see us run the ball. The only one that really seems to do this is Earl, but nobody else is even with him. I am sure that all of this is going to change, hopefully sooner then later. |
