I got this from some site, My monitor goes black with a white line at the top, I dont understand any of this, Help plz.
What are some of the factor that affect the sharpness of a monitor? High Bandwidth, Low misonvergence, small horizontal pitch and a good video display card are some key factors that determine a good display. Video dot rate (also known as BANDWIDTH) is a specification that indicates how fast a monitor can respond. A monitor with a Higher video dot rate specification will provide a sharper, clearer and more defined picture. The horizontal pitch specification is used as an "apple-to-apple" comparison of the specifications on the GRILLE-APERTURE of a TRINITRON tube, the MASK STRIPE of a CROMACLEAR tube and the pitch of SHADOWMASK, as well as to provide consumers with a clearer and fairer means by which to compare technical specifications. Misconvergence refers to the accuracy of the beams in a picture tube. When a picture tube has high misconvergence a white line will appear with a red (or green or blue) fringe which will affect the overall sharpness of the picture. Any magnets nearby? even small ones? Since your brother's started doing it too right next to your monitor I would suspect the problem is exterior and not specific to the monitors themselves. Magnets can really screw up a monitor, so that would be my first guess. How old are the monitor's?

I stumbled across this article.
How close is the other monitor (if there is one)? Keep them away from each other and "degauss" them. "Finally, nearby CRTs can affect each other, so try to keep them at least a foot apart." http://www.maximumpc.com/how_to/reprint_2003-05-21.html |

Dude that looks just like a Jedi LightSaber on your screen! Cool!I have to agree with Pat'sWin. Are both your brothers and your monitors from the same maker? |

I still think it's strange that 2 monitors from 2 different manufacturers have the same problem at pretty much the same time.
Stay with an old monitor for a while and see what happens. There's something going on over there.....power spikes....magnetism.....on an ancient Indian burial ground perhaps..... ...keep us posted. |
