Kerry campaign worker: 'Show me the money'
Friday, November 26, 2004

Delaphena is still waiting for his check.
Some of the John Kerry campaign's most active workers were young people who were supposed to be paid to go door to door to round up votes.

However, some are still waiting on paychecks that should have come in weeks ago, and they want to know who is responsible.

"We didn't get paid," said Joel Delaphena, a Kerry campaign worker out of Tampa. "We haven't gotten paid. It's been two and a half weeks and we haven't gotten our check yet."

Delaphena says the Young Voter Alliance, a program based out of the Young Democrats Office in Washington, D.C., hasn't paid more than two dozen Kerry campaign workers, who in some cases are owed hundreds of dollars each.

"We are aware that some people have not gotten their final paycheck from the Young Voter Alliance," said Jane Fleming, executive director of the Young Democrats of America. "We are absolutely committed to paying every single person for every single hour that they worked on this campaign."
Many Kerry campaign workers want to know where their paychecks are.

Delaphena and others say they were told they haven't been paid because the alliance was $25,000 over budget in the Bay area.

Fleming responded, "We can't discuss right now the timeline or logistics of that, but that everybody will get paid for every single hour that they worked."

Delaphena and his friends say that timeline has been long enough.

"Show me the money," said Delaphena. "I want my check. That's all I want."

Now that's funny. I had 2 different groups of Kerry supporters walk down my street. I live on a dead end road so there is nobody else to talk to but me. I was out by the bus tinkering around and they walk right up to my fence and turn around. I said "Hey aren't you going to talk to me?" And she said, "Uh well we are just out here trying to get people to vote" She was a school teacher and we ended up debating for about 5 minutes. She finally got pissed off and walked away. She had no sense of humor I tel you.

The second gal knocked on my door and I answered. She said are you going to vote for Kerry? I said "No" and I shut the door.

I do hope these ladies get their paychecks though.
