This map is probably a better representation of how the election went then the USA today map, there is a lot of "purple" in there.

This one is pretty wacky, it makes the states proportionally larger that have larger populations, in other words CA is gigantic and Idaho is tiny

Maybe we're not so divided as the press would like us to believe?

Perhaps our map graphics on Election night should slowly fade toward one color or another as votes come in, until a final hue is reached....

Or we could go the other way and emphasize divisions between the red and blue states, and have two tables with a body count under them as votes come in:
