I saw some of britains headlines decrying the Bush victory, one even went so far as to ask how 58 million people could be so dumb?

Where does this idea of intellectual superiority come from?

The percieved basis of the liberal left is that they stand for the downtrodden and underpriviledged and yes, the under and uneducated.

So it would logiically seem to fall that the liberal left would tend to have more 'dumb' people than the conservatives, just on the basis of representation. Wouldn't then the headline be, how could the 55 million who voted for Kerry be so dumb? Well it's probably natural, since that's who they typically represent? it would seem a higher percentage of dumb people reside in the liberal left. Or maybe people just don't know what's good for themselves and need the guidance of the Liberal elites to tell them what's in their own best interests?

Now i write this with tongue mostly planted tongue in cheek, I think intelligent and dumb people inhabit both sides equally, but i don't understand why the Liberal elites think that everyone who disagrees with them is dumb?. You also see this in the case of president Bush. The man is not a gifted Public speaker by any means, but he is far away from being stupid. yet many on the left persist in calling him dumb. I guess they are just covering their own inadequacies when it comes to intelligence.

So again, why would anyone ask the question, why are 58 million people so dumb? A false sense of superiority, I would suppose.

There is really no basis in fact. HS dropouts split evenly between Bush and Kerry. Some college up to Bachelors degree went for Bush. Grad School on up went for Kerry .

(maybe this is where the idea comes from, but if you throw out Lawyers and Teachers from this group I would bet it's pretty even)

If you say so. The last two elections have seen Republican gains in the House, the Senate, and a re-election of the President. If George Bush was as universally hated as you and the other lefties here say he is, Kerry would've won by a landslide.

I remember during the Republican convention here in NYC, people under the guise of being protesters, were staging violent uprisings outside of Madison Square Garden, and I also remember seeing a picture in the paper during that time of a "protester" with her face covered in a scarf, except for the eyes, just like the way you see the al-qaeda people wear. And how they weaseled their way inside and disrupt the speakers at the convention, especially the President. I don't recall anything like that happening in Boston for their convention.

You are impugning an entire party by saying 58 million voted with hatred in their hearts. I certainly didn't vote with any hatred. In fact, I voted for Chuck Schumer in the Senate race because he does a damn good job for NY.

My point to you is, you can't paint with such a broad brush. You don't know for what reasons people voted, left or right, let alone 58 million of them.

That is the irony of the situation - the party of FDR, once the champion of the downtrodden, is now the party of the elite. Academia and celebrities are predominately democrat. Actually, one of the more interesting exit polls I saw (for what they're worth) showed 30% of those casting votes for Kerry were in fact simply casting a vote against Bush. Now, I won't try to say that all of those were all hate votes, but you can bet some of them were.

In all fairness to the liberals, the side that will be the most angry will almost always be the one with the least power and that, in the US right now, is the Democrats.

And their powerlessness is palpable. They don't control the White House, the Senate, the House, many of the Statehouses, the Supreme Court, etc so they are very insecure right now. All they have to give them power is the media and Academia where they still control the day.

Further, almost no Democrat today can remember a time when their party had so little power. You'd have to go back to the 1950s to find the last time the Republicans had both houses and the White House - although the "roles" of the two parties were certainly different then than now.

So, it is normal to think their country is run by a bunch of simpletons because they've been rejected and outnumbered. They take solace in their imagined moral and intellectual superiority but it only makes them angrier that the populace doesn't agree with them.

All of that is okay and long as it doesn't lead to violence and yet that is where I think a slice of the liberal wing is going. And when they are fueled by talk of "stolen" elections and secret agendas by those in power, there is a certain logic for insurrection.

I remember vividly how I felt after Clinton was elected twice. How could America not see what a completely inappropriate person this man was to serve as president? How could they not see how he lied and betrayed them? There was a great deal of anger on the right. We ran a platform in 1996 that was more hate-Clinton than anything constructive and it blew up in our faces, just like the hate-Bush faction saw 2004 blow up in theirs.

If the left if wise (and since they claim to be so intelligent, perhaps they might get a clue), they should understand that you win elections by having better ideas (not just saying you do, Sen. Kerry, I mean actually *having* ideas) and convincing the public that you can implement them. Running a hate-filled jihad just isn't going to sway the middle. In fact, most of them will just resent it.

Call America ignorant and stupid at your own peril. Ultimately, it's their vote that counts as they proved again on Tuesday.

Then again, the Democratic party has had no direction in years. When people like Helen Hunt and Bruce Springsteen represent your party, you know you're in trouble. I've voted Democrat almost every election until this one. I believe Bush won this election because of cross-over voters from the DEMOCRATIC side. Funny, because the elitists and the media told us that it would be the other way around.
