Good golly! Congrats Hotrod. I have tried to do the same, but it just keeps sneaking up on me. I had this resolution to quit at New Years ( how cliche is that ) because some of the other idiots that live in this state voted in a new tax that jacked the price of cigs way up. That came and went, damnit.
Seems like every time I tell myself I am going to quit, it makes it even worse. So I know how hard that is, hotrod. You go on with yo bad self. And pass some of that willpower my way will ya? |

Its strange mtbrncofn I had no intention what so ever of quiting when I did. I understand how hard it is to force yourself to quite. I tried tons of times and just the thought of "I can never have another cig" would just kill me. I smoked atleast 1 1/2 packs a day since my Navy years. Then one Sunday morning (broncos vs colts) I was heading out to the garage with my coffee cup to have a cig (never smoked in the house for the kids) and as I opened the garage door I suddenly thought "no it just does not sound very good right now" I dont even think at that time I thought "Im gonna stop forever" just thought no not right now. Then it just snow balled from there. I have hardly even wanted one since.
Just hang in there and one day you will stop. I do believe you have to just want to "not smoke" more then "stop smoking" inorder to have sucess. |

I agree with you. The reason I find it more depressing is because I have quit before. Three months is the longest I held out and I was doing just fine and the devil came up and said, "hey, it won't hurt to have just one." And we all know how that works out.
I am not a heavy smoker. Maybe 2 packs a week, but half the time when I am outside freezing my ass off, I am thinking, "man, this is a smelly, nasty, expensive habit". Of course I keep right on doing it. There are times when I could just gag at the thought of smoking, and then other times, it's a must have. I guess that's called addiction. I only buy a pack at a time, thinking, "ok, this is definitely my last one". Somehow that just never comes to fruition. My kids think I have quit. I don't want them to know again. I am very ashamed that I can't seem to kick it. I don't want my kids to smoke though. The whole thing just sucks. |

I have a friend who is a doctor and he once told me that when he did some kind of internship in NY that the homeless herion (sp) addicts when/if they begged or whatever and got some $ they would first make sure they bought cigs then if they had enough left would buy herion. Thats pretty amazing stuff. Many argue that cigs are the most addicting thing on the earth. Dont be down on yourself over it thats for sure. Anyone/everyone who smokes or has smoked knows its the single hardest thing in the world to quite doing.
