Default Josh Elliott rules!!!(NL MVP talk)

Josh Elliot is a sportswriter for Sports Illustrated that made his debut on Around the Horn today.

The show lead off with the question over who should be the NL MVP and while Adande and Cowlishaw still went with Barry Bonds and Jay Mariotti said Scoitt Rolen, Josh Elliot went with the guy that I've been hoping that he'd get some publicity for as an NL MVP contender, that guy is Adrian Beltre.

Beltre is our line-up, we don't get to Gagne without a lead, and we don't have a lead without Beltre. .324 BA with 31 HR's and 77 RBI's, doing this virtually with no help(Green, Finley and Bradley are good but not that great) and one a 1st place team that looks to win the division unless they collapse here in the last month. 7th in the NL in batting, 4th in the NL in HR's and 8th in the league in RBI's, only other player in the NL that is in the top 10 in all 3 categories is STL's Scott Rolen.

He won't win it, I honestly think he should because as a Dodger fan, I know this season wouldn't be close to as good if it weren't for him in the line-up, but I was glad to see him at least being mentioned by someone nationally as a contender for the award.

I'd vote for either one of the St. Louis Cardinals...Rolen or Pujols...both are having monster years...Beltre has a great case as well...living here in LA most fans are surprised that Beltre has finally gained some recognition in the lineup...Too bad its in his contract year, and will most probably sign with the team who pays him the most in Free Agency this offseason...

I wouldnt be surprised to see him as a Dodger next season, rumoured reason behind the Marlins-Dodgers was to drump dome salary to sign back Beltre and Gagne.

I'm confident he'll still be a Dodger along with Gagne next season.

Your right about the salary dump...but, Beltre's agent Scott Boras will be looking for the highest ammount for Beltre...It would be ideal for Beltre to stick around but, I still think that Frank McCourt...or McBankrupt as some Talk Show hosts call him, will have a tough time being able to match some of the offers that Beltre will surely be offered...

Boras bank account is sure going to grow this off season with Beltran and Beltre getting huge contracts. You can defiantly make a case for Beltre to get some NL MVP love. When it's all said in done I think Rolen will get the nod. Great offense numbers and night after night outstanding defense plays.

The only problem with Rolen is if you take him out of that line up the Cardinals still would have a solid team. If you want to use the "Look at the talent" argument with Beltre then you have to use the same one for Bonds. As he has even less. Not to mention he never gets a pitch to swing at.

Beltre has got to be a strong candidate now.

League leading 38 Hr's with 88 RBI's, all 3 RBI's tonight was Beltre off a double then 2 HR's, game tying in the 9th then game winning in the 11th.

As I said, he is our line-up, without him then we'd be the same Dodger of last year that was the worst in batting.

The Dodgers and Eric Gagne are missing Guillermo Mota big time. Gagne blew a save last night and gave up the go ahead run in the top of the ninth inning tonight before DenFan38's boy Adrian Beltre jacked his 37th homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game back up. Beltre went on to mash number 38 to win the game in the 11th.

Only thing I can hope for is that our SP's get healthy so we can move Alvarez back down to the bullpen. Haven't heard much on the staus of Edwin Jackson either, but he should be working in the bullpen as well.

Gagne seems to be winded out there now, 2 straight blown saves and he came on tonight throwing a good 5 MPHs slower than usual. a 93 MPH fastball is damn good and fast, but not when you're Gagne who is used to blowing a 99 MPH one past a batter for strike 3.

We;ll see if Dessens works out now from ARI, I'm mostly focused on maintaining our lead and getting Brad Penny back in the line-up.

GRAND SLAM!!!

Beltre drilled his league leading 40th HR tonight with the bases juiced in the 5th inning.

Damnit, he's gotta be MVP.
