For those with a little trouble following along, Ms. Kerry is addressing the Pennsylvania delegation to the Democrat convention and decries "un-Pennsylvanian and un-American traits" that have been creeping into politics towards the end of her speech. A reporter from the Pittsburgh Tribune then asks her what she meant by "un-American". She denies she said it, not once but twice and asks why the reporter is putting words in her mouth. Then, after leaving, she storms back at the reporter and tells him to "shove it". Her media handler then excuses her outburst because of who the reporter works for. Don't expect to see this on CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS or the rest of the unfair and unbalanced media. But the proof is there, captured by a Pittsburgh TV station. |

The reporter is an editorial page editor who's been smearing Heinz
Apparently he was putting words into her mouth, asking her why she called something "un-American." She said, "I didn't say that" many, many times and eventually told the guy to "shove it." The right-wing media is going to have a field day with this, I'm sure. Wait for the spin about how she's a loose cannon or something. Of course, Dick Cheney can tell a senator to "**** off" on the senate floor, and it's no big deal, but the wife of a candidate tells a reporter who is hassling her to "shove it" and it will be a big story. |

The reporter is an editorial page editor who's been smearing Heinz on the pages of the Scaife-owned Pittsburgh Tribune Review, according to Kevin Drum. His name is Colin McNichol. I understand he's been flogging the Tides bs that's made its way from the editorial pages of his newspaper to internet spam to the pages of the WSJ.
Here is the exchange: http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/...6/detail.html: "We need to turn back some of the creeping, un-Pennsylvanian and sometimes un-American traits that are coming into some of our politics," she told her fellow Pennsylvanians at a Sunday night reception at the Massachusetts Statehouse. Minutes later, Colin McNickle, the editorial page editor of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, questioned her on exactly what she meant by the term "un-American," according to a tape of the encounter recorded by WTAE Channel 4 Action News. Heinz Kerry said "I didn't say that" several times to McNickle. She then turned to confer with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and others. When she faced McNickle again a short time later, he continued to question her, and she replied, "You said something I didn't say. Now shove it." |

If you had watched the tape LABF you would see that she did in fact say those exact words. The reporter was asking what he meant by those words and she denied even saying them. Either she is lying, or she is too stupid to remember what she said. The reporter did her a favor by asking what she meant, rather then assuming what she meant and printing that which most reporters would have done. She then got defensive with that reporter and denied saying, and even accused the reporter of putting words into her mouth.
Does it matter who the reporter works for or what political slant he has...no. And the reason for that is because it was captured on tape and no political hogwashing needs to be done. She said it, she lied about it when confronted about it. A big story huh...right that's why only this local newspaper has anything about it. |

Wow--this is SO much worse than VP Potty Mouth saying "go **** yourself" on the senate floor.
Wonder when we'll see the outrage from the "family values" crowd over that one? |

She said it, she then denied it. Either she is too dumb to realize she said it, or she lied about it and has the same backbone as her husband-NONE. I don't care which it is, because I won't be casting my vote based on what the potential First Lady says or does. And I find it rather humerous that Cheney told the senator to "go f*uck yourself". It's a change from the lifeless VP's we've had in the past. At least we know this guy has some emotion and has a pulse (withstanding any future heart attacks ).Assuming that the governor was correct in that she was talking about the political mudslinging going on, then I would even say I agree with her, but that is mute anyway. |

Then why are you even involved in this discussion? And I find it rather humerous(sic) that Cheney told the senator to "go f*uck yourself". 'Nuf said about your morals, I guess. |

I normally ignore the rantings of a lunatic but he has a point (which I knew would be brought up). Even if Cheney felt better about it, I don't like f-bombs being tossed around the Senate chamber, even if provoked or in an off-the-cuff moment. But the media did spend a week on it so viewers like LABF can be aware of it and factor it into their decision on whom they should elect.
But in choosing who will be "co-president" (in Democrat terms) for the next four years, will the public have a week of stories in the "mainstream media" about Madame Kerry's blowup, even though this was directed at a member of the press *and* caught on tape? Not on your life. If a Republican were stealing and destroying documents from the National Archives, would the media let them get away with saying these were "inadvertant" "mistakes" caused by "sloppiness"? Yeah, like anyone would really inadvertantly mistakenly shove top secret docs down their shorts and into their socks! But because it's a Democrat, the media snickers and thinks its fun and games rather than a threat to national security. What the liberals are either too blind to understand or unable to admit to themselves is that the Limbaughs, Hannitys and Fox Newses would not exist nor have the audience they do if the mainstream press did their jobs fairly. But they don't. They spend two months on Abu Ghraib looking for the highest scapegoat they can find and two minutes on how most Iraqis are grateful that the Americans have freed them from Saddam and eager to venture forward into a new government. The unfair media created the market for Limbaugh, et al with their one-sidedness. They could never survive as they are if the media told the truth instead of silencing whatever doesn't fit the Democrat agenda. I posted this thread because, otherwise, more people would be unaware of whom they could be putting into the White House next January. If the media did their jobs the right way, I wouldn't feel the need to. |

Cheney was an idiot to curse on the senate floor. Inexcusable, but not something we need to string him up for.
Same deal with this insanely rich woman. She's an idiot for pulling something that stupid, but it's not the end of the world. LABF coming charging to her rescue without watching the video was the best part of this whole thread. ![]() |

Well this does it. Kerry is probably going to lose a lot of votes over this one. Who wants a first lady who doesn't like the media? The cute, cuddly, always respectful media.
Anyone who has a wife who doesn't like the media is not electable. So long as Laura Bush behaves herself, this one is in the bag... ...but then, there is that whole matter of Jenna Bush sticking her tongue out at those poor, poor reporters. This is going to take some careful consideration. I just don't know if I can give my vote to someone who has direct family members who don't show the media the proper respect that they clearly deserve. |

I would have to agree with that. But then my pro-Bush side pulls me back saying, "No you fool, you can't agree with Mrs. Heinz!!"
So I am indecisive ![]() |

OF COURSE.... No one remembers the Smirking Chimp saying into a live microphone "that reporter is a real a-hole" It's only uncivil when the liberals do it. All I know is that THK isn't responsible for the deaths of over 900 Americans and thousands of innocent Iraqi's... men, women and children all to line the pockets of Bechtel and Halliburton. This woman has acid for blood and she doesn't take any crap from anyone. At least she's not a vapid, opinionless, drugged up, spineless nobody, like the current first lady. |

First, Cheney's remark wasn't on the "floor", it was during the "class picture", coincidently the only time every member was present all year.
Second, Cheney is sick and tired of two faced back stabbers acting all chummy for a photo op. Third, Cheney didn't deny saying it. Mrs. Heinz did. |

I don't mind the foul mouthed mrs. heinz, she will be back spending her first husbands money after november anyway. I'm wondering if mizz ketcup would take her husbands name if the country should end up being unfortunate enough to be stuck with FrankenKerry as pres?
She and the poodle have so much in common, both married into someone else's money, but the poodle traded up in quantity. |

IMO, Ms. Heinz-Kerry should not have allowed the reporter to shake her composure. However, this is absolutely not comparable to the vice president's outburst. First off, Ms. Heinz-Kerry is not running for office, nor will she hold any position of power regardless of the outcome of the election. Mr. Cheney is and does. Second, the level of the outburst wasn't even close. Let's just say for the sake of argument, if one's kids emulated both incidents. Telling a sibling to "shove it" would result in a lecture that such language is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.... however saying to "go "f" yourself" would require more emphatic sanctions... probably involving soap.

If my son told a senator to "go f yourself", he would get a raise in allowance. If my daughter told a newspaper to shove off, she would also get a raise in allowance. But then thats because I don't like politicians or the media. I think the whole thing is blown out of proportion, and I thought the Cheney thing was blown out of proportion. So they are emotional people and lost their cool for a bit. Big freaking deal! Who hasn't? Move on. |

![]() I'll agree that the whole deal has been blown out of proportion, but nonetheless, one's point can be made without resorting to the ad hominem attack in most cases and a visceral emotional reaction often results in negative perceptions from the vantage point of onlookers (as opposed to a calm, unruffled demeanor). |
