Very nice spide. As always great nature in the background, nice shot of the deer in the midst of the trees and greenery. Good pics of the cute kids and dog.

The dog's a Chiefs fan?

Seriously, good to see the kids loving the dog. That's one of the best things when your a kid, if you have a dog to love and get attached to, it enriches everything.

As a man of the great indoors, camping out to me means getting a room at a Motel 6 or a Super 8...but I must confess, that is some beautiful country.

Know the feeling. I started a cabin buiding project in a non tourist area a couple hours from home a few years ago. My idea was 600 Sq ft with electricity to run the fridge for beer and satellite dish. Project got "girl-ized" and is now three bedrooms and two baths. Still nice and spend most weekends there, but I spend half my time fixing stuff. Deer are thick, elk are there but seldom seen, bobcats and bears are also around. Several good bear stories from neighbors a couple of years ago when it was so dry food was hard for them to find.

Another neighbor was staining wood with the garage door open when a bear walked up behind her. She ran to the car and the bear toured the house. They still have bear footprints on the stairs where the bear knocked over the stain and tracked it through the house.

I was on a 3 family camping trip in northern Wyoming when i was about 16 years old. We pulled off into a rest area mid morning and there was a family hiding in their pickup camper while three bears were having a nice breakfast of bacon, eggs and pancakes. We were throwing food out the windows trying to lure the bears away so the folk could get their stuff and move on. My dads friend was getting this all with his movie camera when he realized there was a bear breathing in his ear through the open pickup window. He left the camera running while he pulled away quickly and rolled up his window. Movie is still funny - looks like keysotne cops or something with pictures of his face, the bear in his face, the floor of the truck etc. Sure it would be a big winner on Americas Funniest Home Videos these days.

I still have nightmares over that ... They say when you meet up with a bear , play dead .... I knew this , but when face to face with a bear all logic , coolness , goes right out the window and full Panic mode sets in ....... Well at least it did for me

I am sure I would have done the same. The only time I have seen one at our place I was sitting reading a book and kids were playing on the floor when the one who was about 8 looked up at me and calmly said "Daddy, there is a bear in our yard" and went back to playing. I jumped up, looked out the window and sure enough there was a big old brown guy wandering by about 20 feet from the house. I opened the door and got a couple of pictures and it didn't pay a bit of attention to me. I'm pretty sure it was a male, but we named it Wilma and still talk about him but have never seen him again. Wife likes to walk the dog up there so I make her wear a bell so she won't surprise one.

good Idea , if a bear knows you are comming not much of a chance for an encounter ...... where there are Bears , there sure to be a Big Cat lurking somewhere also ........
Speaking of Wildlife , I ont know where you live , but in No Colorado, Wildlife officials were repopulating the Big Horn Sheep ..how is that going ?

Not sure about the Big Horn but around here its the Moose they are trying to bring back. The other thing is the antilope is starting to move in to my area. There is a herd of 200 or so living behind my house. Thats pretty strange for this area.

Moose seem to be doing well ....... also on Friday , outside of Glenrock , me and my Family got a rare privilage to see a Golden Eagle ....... I wish I would have taken Pictures , there is a Bald Eagles nest outside of Midwest/Edgerton Wyoming , but some ass clown outside of K.C. thought it would be cool to shoot her , so we havent seen a Bald Eagle in 4 years ........

We have seen no sign of Cougars, but they have seen them fairly close by (15 miles) so we try to be aware that they could be around.

They are trying to repopulate the bighorn is several places around the state. Not sure how it is really going, but I know they have had problems with some parasite infection in recent years.

They planted about 35 moose near Rand on the West side of Rky Mtn. NP about 30 years ago. Guess that herd has really grown. They also planted a herd near Creede that has developed well, but got some bad publicity last year when a couple died when they tried to transport them. The Rand herd has migrated at least as far as Breckenridge and there are moose warning signs up in the Weston pass area South of Fairplay. I have never seen one in Colorado except in the Rand Area. A friend was camping up in Pinedale,Wy area a couple of years ago when a moose stampeded the campground. I guess those suckers can really be mean.

Antelope have really been thriving. Not like Wyoming, but you see them all over in South Park and frequently in the Arkansas Valley. During the winter you can also see several large herds of elk in South Park, probably 500-600 total. Don't know why, but they stayed late this year. Did not go up into the timber until early June. Ususally they leave about the first of May.

Last fall we saw a Golden Eagle swoop right down in the ditch by the highway and grab a rabbit. Quite a sight. Can also see Golden Eagles at Black Canyon and the fish hatcheries near Buena Vista and Crested Butte. They have Bald Eagles out at Barr Lake just outside Denver and you used to see on once in a while if you went to the east side of Lake Grandby.

I love watching that herd in South Park and I do recall seeing them there late this year. I almost ran off the road looking at them once. The wife said most men run off the road looking at girls I run off looking at elk instead.

Ive seen 2 Moose around here but thats spread out over about 4 years. Both times were up above Pitkin.
