Man alive. Never seen the SEC so salty.
Every time Harbaugh does something they cry foul.

Illinois finally hires an AD. He promptly fires Bill Cubit a week before spring practice.

Dumpster fire.

He was a terrible choice for HC to begin with. But damn, first day on the job and he fires a coach you allowed to hire a full staff and reached an extension with.

Not a bad hire.

Dunno if he can recruit.

Home run hire for them. If he's tired of the NFL he could be the coach that helps usher their program into a new era.

I've always wondered how programs like that are able to land NFL coaches.

CU was very briefly linked with Shanahan right? It was quelled pretty fast.

It usually depends upon the alumni. Some guys are friends with coaches or agents of coaches and then they connect them with their alma mater.

I don't see it as that great a hire to begin with, and then there's this:

"Fox Sports reports one reason Lovie Smith was interested in the Illinois job was the possibility of bringing two of his sons, Mikal and Matt, who were on his staff in Tampa. Don't be surprised if Smith retains defensive coordinator Mike Phair, who worked under Smith in Tampa in 2014."

So. With that bit of nepotism, it's easy to understand how a downtrodden program like illinois gets a washed up NFL coach.

Pretty much happens anywhere a coach has a kid they want to break into coaching.
Holtz, Beamer, Briles, Spurrier and etc had their kids on staff with them.
If their kids are not coaches then they usually bring them in as players.

4 star WR Keyshawn Johnson Jr picked NU today. Many hope that this will be the domino that helps NU land his teammate 5 star CB Darnay Holmes and 4 star QB Tristan Gebbia. NU landed Holmes best friend last year so that helps a lot.

Buffs already started on 2017, with a 4-star WR from Texas. https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/maple/163554

Interesting, they're ranked in recruitment rankings for the first time since Embree's first year.

The Buffs staffing change seems to be paying off well for them.
A lot of buzz for them in recruiting circles.

It would be nice to see them as a prominent program again. It was always exciting as hell to watch when they were good and playing against Nebraska for big stakes.

Sure think the facilities have something to do with it, too:

The Buffs now have a top-25 QB in Davis Webb, and THREE top-30 WRs on their roster.

Probably going to be one of those "air-it-out" offense like we saw from Chiv at Texas Tech.

No doubt about it. The facilities are a significant tool. Michigan has long invested in facilities and the improvement of them since Martin was the AD. Fell off a cliff when that moron Brandon was here but the next 2 have made it a priority again, especially since Harbaugh is also big on being cutting edge.

The Buffs had a very impressive group of recruits in town this weekend for Junior Day. Mostly Texas and California kids. All studs:

Trajon Cotton (Sacramento, CA)
Drew Dalman (Salinas, CA)
Damion Daniels (Dallas, TX)
Wesley Green (Desoto, TX)
Arthur Hayes (Contra Costa C.C., CA)
Edward Ingram (Desoto, TX)
Jaylon Jackson (Cedar Hill, TX)
Caleb Lawton (Cedar Hill, TX)
Tyler Lytle (Anaheim, CA)
Xavier Newman (Desoto, TX)
K.D. Nixon (Desoto, TX)
Sebastian Olver (Kentfield, CA)
Laviska Shenault (Desoto, TX)
Grant Trueman (Chino Hills, CA)
Hyrin White (Desoto, TX)
Jamonne Williams (Desoto, TX)

The Texas kids are almost all the result of Chiavarini. He's doing amazing work on the recruiting trail. Darian Hagan is also putting in work in Texas.

The Buffs first two verbals, before Jackson, were Creek's Jonathon Van Diest and Dante Sparaco. Van Diest was a big part of Jackson's recruitment.

Van Diest is a 6'2", 235 pound linebacker. Very impressive speciman. As a soph, he displayed a 39.5 inch vertical, which would have put him #11 among all players at this year's NFL combine.

Sparaco is a 6'5", 255 pound athlete. He'll probably end up on the d-line.

Both high 3* on Rivals.

Tristan Gebbia picked NU over Ole Miss. One more to go!
