Default Why no Henderson in the run game?

I haven't seen the inactive list before the games, not sure if Henderson has been active or not. Was hoping to see him get some carries at some point in games.

Are they trying to hide him for PS stashing if they need a roster spot? Are they just happy with the 2 back system they have now?

Carter was pimped up a lot this offseason but don't remember seeing him in any games.

Bolles and Mckensie are the exceptions. Is Vance the kind of coach who wants his rooks to pay their dues before getting touches or are we just that deep? Sure sounds like they are keeping Booker as the 3rd RB when he is healthy.

Some coaches won't play rookies if they can help it. Is Vance one of those?

Only my opinion, but I think of third backs as insurance. Good backs, like CJ, get better the more carries they get. When CJ needs the occasional spell, Charles is perfect for the task because he's no longer a 30 carry back (although I'd like to see him get more carries as well because you can just sense that he's going to bust one) but has enormous game experience. Like all good backs, the more CJ runs, the better he gets. Why give carries to a third back which would only dilute the effort?

I have no idea. I think they feel like they can't keep Charles on the bench and there just aren't enough carries right now.

We need to ride CJ and Charles at the moment. no 1 in the league running the ball. The good thing is we have great depth with Henderson and Booker. Its a long season and CJ and Charles always get nicked up so their will be plenty of carries and opportunities for Henderson and Booker as we go through the season.

CJ will break down like it's always been once they get into oct/nov. I don't think it's some 2 back plan cause Booker is going to go right onto the field once he's ready. There's "packages" for Isaiah and Henderson, just haven't seen any

I think they should get our young backs in a bit more, give CJ a few less carries to be honest, I am not sure he can last. In 2014, he had his most carries - 179. He is on pace for 352 carries this year. He has averaged 147 carries a year so far. Can he really more than double that and stay healthy?

I mean just let him rush I dunno.. around 5 to 7 less times a game. Start developing our young talent.

If Anderson and Charles are doing fine, you stay with that until its time to change things up just to make game planning harder for defenses. You don't show everything the first 3 weeks of the year.

I'm sure he and Booker will get expanded playing time as the season wears on.

Thats not really fair to CJ:

'13 - no burn
'14 - Did all his damage in the back half of the season
'15 - Was our running threat in the playoffs - Super Bowl
'16 - Got hurt.

In fact, CJ Anderson has had so many iconic broncos moments in a short amount of time. Sorta like DT, fans don't respect him enough. Just off the top of my head...

In '14, he was the most productive running back in the NFL for the back half of the season. The amazing catch and run against raiders kicked it off, and it was bookended by that amazing 4th down run he had against Indy when we lost in divisional round.

in '15 - He had the long run to end the Patriots game, and was clearly our only running threat in the playoffs. His TD sealed the Pitt game as well as the Super Bowl.

in '16 he got hurt ues.

in '17 - He already has that sweet run against the cowboys that will no doubt be on the season highlight reel.

As impressive as he was in the preseason, Henderson is still just a rookie. He needs to learn the nuances of pass protection and playing big boy football. As others have mentioned, he’s a great insurance policy if CJ or JC get injured. I wouldn’t read anymore into it than that.

I think he was talking about most rushing yards.

As far as attempts go, that's mostly because we've done nothing but protect big leads in both games so far.

Yup, this is likely a primary reason.

Denver hasn't needed him. I look for him to make an appearance in Buffalo. I think he was also nursing a minor injury.

Because Charles is healthy and plays the same role.

That's so easy. He could be the best back we have but if he cant pick up a blitz... he's gonna sit.

CJ can't sustain that many carries and Charles isn't ready to take on more yet. It's the perfect time for Booker to come back. Henderson probably can't pass protect well enough to be in the game yet, plus he had those two fumbles in the preseason which aren't helping his case.

Who knows, but there's plenty of rookie backs getting burn right now

They might be more afraid of his fumbling

Yep.

Also, I didn't get to watch all the preseason because of travel, but didn't Henderson fumble a couple times in 1 game? That's a teaching moment, but right now our "veteran" backs are playing well and making good decisions. Henderson will get his shot at some point.
