Here's some info on GR2...

GR2 : 2004? Posted by Rocky on Saturday, January 17 2004
Just when you thought we had speculated about Ghost Recon 2 as much as was possible, there is yet more fuel to keep those hopeful embers burning! This months PC Gamer states that they are expecting news from Ubi Soft regarding Ghost Recon 2 any time now, and they have it slated as one of their top up-coming games for 2004. There is nothing concrete mentioned, so it could be nothing more than idle speculation, but we live in hope! Feel free to comment on this in our GR2 forum. Thanks to Dago for the news!

Edit > Here is the actual quote....

"...Follow-up and franchise extensions play a significant part in our list, with new properties increasingly difficult to sell to publishers trying to find a profit in every release. We expect to soon have news of a sequel to our former Game of the Year, Ghost Recon..."

http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/ind...T&f=29&t=5863&

My latest PC gamer mag went into detail about it and I am pretty excited to see the new changes... Enemy A.I. will be sick! Plus, the graphics will be powered by the new Doom engine... I can't wait!

You know what game I will fork out 50-60 bucks for pez? Halo 2. Thats got no release date. Bungie wont even speculate and said any rumors to a date are just that. Sometime this year though....we can only hope. Halo was the most kick ass first person shooter ever.

I'd agree, I've been playing Halo on my PC... It taxes my rig pretty heavily though. I even have a Radeon 9800xt vid card and it still chugs along at 1600x1200...

I'd have to say, if you ever get a chance to try Call of Duty, do it. That game flat out r0x0rz!

Splinter Cell rocks too. It reminds me very much of Metal Gear Solid. It needs more blood though.

I've also been playing deux ex2 and Star Wars KOTOR. I highly recommend both if you have an X-box..

As far as Halo 2, its vaporware at this point. It could be a looooong time til we see it finished. I wouldn't even be suprised to see it with the new XBox v2.0

Splinter cell was OK, but it is no MGS that's for sure.

Deus Ex (the first one) is my favorite PC game of all time. I really want Invisible War (its a Deus Ex game) for the Box, but its still 50 bucks. Its getting high marks though, 9 and 10 ratings.

KOTOR I have and beat doing the light side. I still want to go back and be a dark jedi but I cant bring myself to wack the good people. I guess Im just a lightsided guy by nature.

Its funny, my impulse was to be a dark side player... Its alot more fun to rule in hell I guess! Besides, it is sooooo easy to get dark side points!

Bwahahaha! Darth Obnoxio am I!!!

As for Splinter Cell, I'd have to say it was as good for me as MGS2 on PSX2. Nothing will top MGS for the PSX though...

Trust me, if you dug Deus Ex, you're gonna love Invisible War. It kicks major ass.

Say Pez, you ever get FF X-2?

I stopped playing it. Thus far Im am about halfway through and near the end of the story (level 32 and already near the end of the storyline? WTF?) It's been a very short FF and so was 10 really. Ten has MUCH better cinematics though the cine's on X-2 have been pretty good.

For my money though, FF 7 is always going to be king. Cloud kicked major ass with that spikey hair and monster sword of his and the materia was such an ideal way to use magic.

You know when you max out on lightside points though there is this really super cool glow about you on the character screen(the one that you have to go to when you level up).

I never did wind up getting FFx-2. I have so many games to finish before I can even think of getting ahold of that. It seems like every time I play a FF game it consumes me for roughly 40+ hours of gaming at minimum.

FF 7 was the bomb. Easily my favorite one. Aeris getting croaked was shocking! Sephiroth was a badass! I even got a gold chocobo! Not an easy thing to get!
Some people hated FF8. I wasn't one of them. I loved the gameplay and parts of the story were killer! I never ended up playing much of IX. That was right when the PSX was on its last legs and I just never really gave it much of a chance.

As far as Knights of the Old Republic, the dark side powers are just too much fun. Force choke is hilarious! I've pretty much made enemies in every world so far. The story ending on the dark side is much better too IMO.

I'm not sure if you were old enough to remember but Ultima VII was probably my favorite RPG. I loved being able to kill literally everyone in the game. And the world was huuuuge for its day. Upgrading was always awesome as well...
Its too bad that the current standard of some of the games these days seems to limit the actual hours of gametime. I easily beat Max Payne 2 in 7 hours. Call of Duty was way too short as well. They need to make games longer again...

Ha Pez, Ultima rocked but VII wasnt the best RPG.

That distinction goes to Bard's Tale (1, 2 and 3) for me.

games are too easy now, especially RPGs.

When RPGs first started in the text era, they were freakin hard. Zork 1 had to be one of the hardest RPG's I ever played and none of them were easy all the way to Zork Beyond (which is the last one I played).

Remember Dragon Warrior on the original Nintendo? final fantasy got its start from that. The historic figure in Dragon Warrior was named Erdrick and you had to find his armor and weapons to beat the final boss.

Anyway, in Final Fantasy one, in the southern hemisphere in one of the towns there was a graveyard and if you looked at the graveyard tombstone names one of them said "Rest in Peace Erdrick". Dragon Warrior went downhill after that but the first one was the reason I got into console RPGs, though PC RPGs are always better IMO.

Also, remember Might and Magic? (before Hero's of Might and Magic). The first three kicked major butt even if the graphics are shady by today's standards.

When Aeris died in FF 7, me and my roomate (who played the game with me, took turns as it got old levelling up after a while) were so freaking sad. The drama and emotion of that happening especially when you didnt know it was coming was just unreal for a video game. The Gold chocbo was very hard to get but you needed it to get Knights of the Round which was one serious summon spell. If you ever beat Emerald Weapon (the one under the water floating around you could see the entire game) then you really had your characters kicking ass. We finally beat him but you have to have almost the exact materia combination and know exactly how to beat him or you are toast. We never did beat Ruby weapon (the little red flower sticking out of the desert towards the end of the game) thoug. That bastard would just make your characters disappear under the sand and we couldnt figure out the strategy to beat him.

my roomates girl had a crush on Sephiroth

FF 8 rocked. I dont care what others aid that game kicked butt too. Easily the best airship of all the games was in 8. The Ragnarock was freakin awesome and that one cinematic when it ran into the final building and turned into this monster robotic dragon was just unreal. Also, the cinematic battle scenes in 8 were by far the best of any of the series. I probably spent 50 hours playing that little card game within the game to collect all the cards.

FF 9, like you, I never really got into. It had the old school feel about it (classes and all), but the story was weak and the characters just didn't interest me.

10 could have been so much better without the little arrow telling you what to do. It was entirely too easy. I loved blitzball though and the summons kicked major ass. Bahamut rocks in all of them but he really was something special in 10 (he kicked ass in 7 too but 8 and 10 were the best Bahamuts)

Oh god don't even get me started on that maddening card game in FF8.. I logged over 100 hours of my life on that damned thing... Grrr I want them back!

As far as getting Knights of the Round in FF7, well I guess I'm evil. I used a game genie to get it. I had to know how much butt it kicked! definetely my favorite power!

I stopped playing Zork after Grand Inquisiter. I'm not certain if there is even a new one out after that anyway. I liked Return to Zork but I was never into the text adventures. Too bad too considering how much better they sounded..

As for RPG's, Ultima VIII and IX just sucked terribly. Those were some of the more disappointing games I've ever played. I never got into Might and Magic. I've always heard how much fun they were too. I loved playing Shining Force on Sega Genesis. Those types of games need to come back big time...

I still love playing old school nintendo and arcade games via emulators... I was heavily into the emulation scene about 7 years ago before it got out of control with pirating N64 stuff... not that I'm not guilty of pirating stuff myself... ah but that's another topic altogether...

I liked KOTOR. I quit before I beat Malik at the very end. My consular's health points were too low.

I got GR: Island Thunder for Christmas from my brother-in-law.
I haven't even played any GR yet.
It looks kind of complicated.

Rainbow Six 3 for the Xbox is the way to go. Damned thing pissed me off like none other.

Splinter Cell is still my favorite, though.

Speaking of which, they need to finish developing Splinter Cell 2 grrrrrr.
That was a great game by Ubisoft.
They sure know how to make good games over there eh

Rainbow Six 3 was definately good for the first hour but after that I got the sensation of just another Rainbow SIx game.

Splinter Cell pisses me off to no end. I need Daugherty's computer access to get passed the CIA and I really cant get passed the damn thing without setting off too many god damn alarms. That god damn game.

I also played Island THunder (Ghost Recon's expansion game) and it has a few improvements over Ghost Recon but overall the game was not better. I liked the addition of more weapons, specifically the M1 Grenade Launcher but Im still stuck on the OIC British made rifle that Lindy Cohen and Will Jacobs both start off with. That and the 762 RIfle (not the carbine, though that is a nice gun to shoot as well, accuracy is not as good and the power of the projectile not as strong in real life). I also like the SVD and the M-98 in the original as my favorite sniper rifles however in real life I want a .50 Caliber with a 2 KM scope and optional night vision included. THose deer can just get so elusive....

I've been playing a hell of a lot of Call of Duty and Tron 2.0 again... those lightcycles are so addicting. I also tried getting into 'XIII' but I just lost my patiece with it. Sweet cel-shaded graphics though. My 9800xt was chugging at 1600x1200 last night with that... Time to upgrade my cpu chip to the 64fx...

I may have to get Splinter Cell. I saw it packaged with Prince fo Persia for $50.

PoP is 50$ by itself. It's supposed to be a good game.

Hey Alec, I know you like the Tolkien movies and books. I was wondering if you've played The Return of the King. You can't play live, but it has a 2 player version so you and your friend can go through the whole game together kicking ass as two of the main characters. You can even be Sam or Pippen. I read the reviews and it looked pretty good. The main drawback is that it's too short. That's not a problem for me. They were saying KOTOR was too short, and I'm stuck after 60 hours. I don't ever cheat on these games. That takes all the fun away and makes me feel like I just wasted $50.

OOooh

I just got Invisible War: Deus Ex and it is easily one of the best games to date on the X-Box. Best graphics so far of any game I own but the story, gameplay, music and style is all just top notch.

If you ever played the first Deus Ex, you have to get this one.
