Tampa Bay Selects Reggie Williams, WR, Washington.
Wanted Wilfork, but will settle for an excellent offensive weapon that would be a top ten pick in most drafts. Just too good to pass up... |

A little tidbit I found. This is exciting for any WestCoast Offense to hear about a player. At 6-4 225 and a 4.45 40 and a very physical player, you couldn't go wrong with selecting him. Hear that, Shanny?!? |

SF is shell shocked that Reggie Williams went right before them. The War Room is stunned. SF goes for their second important need area, DT and selects DT Randy Starks, Maryland.

Hold on, I need to look at my list. Mock takes the pigtailed redhead, let's call her Suzy. Hold on hold on, she doesn't look 3 years out of high school. Last edited by watermock; 04-11-2004 at 05:29 PM.. |

Mock takes Big Bubba for the Saints. This guy redefines the term monster.
Can you see the saucers in Ian Gold's eyes as this 360 pound behemoth bears down on him? Shawn Andrews NFL Position: Offensive Tackle College: Arkansas Class: Junior Ht: 6-4 Wt: 366 40: 5.35 Strengths: To say he is massive is an understatement...Extremely athletic and quick for his size...Strong...Dominant run blocker. Weaknesses: The only thing that could hold him back is his ability to keep his weight under control...Needs to improve as a pass blocker. Notes: Elite prospect...Probably won't be a left tackle but this guy is as good of a right tackle prospect as there has been in a while...Could possibly play inside at guard. This is also a possiblity for Denver, if they want to go to a Hog's style offense. Bookending the Massive Beast in Andrews with Foster would certainly be interesting as they simply slapped lighweights out of the way. Taco would cream his jeans. Ollie would run. This guy is so huge he makes the Fridge look like a corndog. He's supposed to have a mean streak as well. If he failed at blocking he could be moved to DT and be a freaking wall, but he has skills, just needs to keep his weight to about 345 IMO, which I am sure they could do with a little help on his probably incredibly prolific diet of 3 hogs and two buckets of pankakes per day. Mock is pretty high on this guy and wouldn't mind if Denver grabbed him and made him a mauler inside. He's the beast of the draft next to Wilfolk. However, Andrews also has a mean streak compared to Wilfolk. Last edited by watermock; 04-11-2004 at 06:01 PM.. |

There is some mix up at the commissioner's desk. Mock is claiming he selected Shawn Andrews but the card that went up to the commissioner bore the name "Sasha Cohen".

Since Andrews is gone I think Miami would take a WR here.
I'm not too sold on the guy yet, but he will probably go in this sort of area, Miami selects: Lee Evans WR Wisconsin |

I don't know about WR for them. I'd take Vernon Carey OG.
Comparison: Strengths This kid is gigantic, has unreal size and is very strong and powerful. Actually looks almost round in body type but that is not fat. Carey is a versatile player that could play offensive tackle or offensive guard in the league. I love his run blocking skills, very quick feet and is not a bad pass blocker either. Carey has the strength of a NFL lineman no doubt about that . Weaknesses His weight can get out of control at times, so I would like to see him keep the same weight for two seasons in row. Is not very good blocking down the field, he is athletic don’t get me wrong but he does not have great speed. Some might consider him a tweener as well because I don’t know if he is an offensive guard or an offensive tackle and that could be a problem. Summary I like the kids’ talent; he is a powerful player and blocks that way. Just man handles defensive linemen at times. Is a solid pass blocker, has good quickness and good feet. Might be a question to where he plays in the NFL, but he has the strength and ability. I think people underrate him a lot; he has a lot of talent. Look for him to be the best offensive lineman on Miami this year . It would also look good with the locals since he's a miami boy, and with the Dan Marino fiasco. Here's another one of his profiles... Position: OL Height: 6'5" Weight: 350lbs College: Miami(FL) Positives: Vernon Carey is an absolute beast. At 6'5" 350 there aren't many people who want to go head to head with Vernon. Vernon is a tremendous run blocker and if you ask Willis McGahee who his favorite guy to run behind last year was he'd tell you it was Vernon Carey. Carey just out muscles everyone he faces. He also doesn't have any significant injuries to report. Negatives: Carey needs to improve his hand-eye coordination a little bit to have his hands in better postition. He should also spend some time on footwork and improving his speed a bit. My Take: Vernon Carey is a powerhouse and is nearly impossible to move. He was one of the reasons Miami was able to run the ball so effectivley the past 2 years. Vernon will find success in the NFL because of his strength and experience at Miami. Like Robert Gallery(Iowa) he has no important injuries in the past which is huge for an offensive lineman. Vernon should be a first round pick and he will likely be selected late in the first round. |

I did consider this guy, but I am reluctant to take a guard so high in the draft, especially when they really need a RT. (They signed John St Clair, but he is no more than average at best.) I don't really follow the idea of moving a Guard to Tackle either, since normally its the other way round
They could do with a WR as insurance in case Boston doesn't work out, and they need depth anyway. |

Note: I'm going to be gone for a few hours and don't want to slow things down. I've got the Buffalo pick right after Seattle.
Buffalo will take Ben Troupe (TE, Georgia), if he's available. Otherwise, Michael Clayton (WR, LSU). |

With the 22nd pick overall, the Indianapolis Colts have drafted Jonathan Vilma, MLB, U. of Miami.
Basically with Rob Morris never panning out and being flat out too slow, a move needed to be made to get more speed on the field. Morris still could start next year because Indianapolis also has some holes at the OLB spots with the losses of Mike Peterson and Marcus Washington. The need was there for some playmakers and Vilma can be the Derrick Brooks of the defense for Tony Dungy and the Colts. Vilma could be a perenial pro bowler on the fast track surface of the RCA dome. Grade: 94 Alerts: (B: BULK/SIZE) Lacks size/bulk for position Comments: Vilma is undersized. Struggles to take on blocks, must improve base and lower-body strength to matchup better vs. inside run. Still extremely productive tackle-to-tackle run stopper. Instinctive, active, intelligent. Tough, plays bigger than measurables. Great at slipping blocks. Explosive power for size. Technically sound tackler with explosive, fluid hips. Outstanding athlete. Very good recognition skills. Is a sideline-to-sideline chase linebacker with excellent top-end speed. Plays every bit as fast has his 40-yard time indicates because of instincts, initial quickness. Uses hands to get through traffic. Slips blocks and has excellent burst when closing on ball carrier. Adequate instincts as a blitzer, shows big play potential as occasional interior pass rusher. Great speed, instincts and athleticism in coverage. Has hips, speed to turn and run with most NFL running backs in man coverage. Very good range in zone. A playmaker when ball is in air. Knocks down a lot of passes. Is overaggressive and must play with more discipline, but other than that he's an instinctive football player with a nose for the ball. Reads his keys, generally takes great angles in pursuit, and if he's in position, he'll make the play. He has an uncanny ability to sniff things out and always seems to be around the ball. Is at his best in space. Shows great closing burst in pursuit. One of the most fundamentally sound tacklers in this class and is more explosive than size indicates. Will wrap up, lift and drive ballcarriers to ground. Vilma had knee surgery in spring of 2001, but started at middle linebacker his last three seasons. He reminds us a lot of Ray Lewis when Lewis was coming out of Miami; an undersized middle linebacker who might need move to the weakside position, but has the frame and size potential to add bulk and strength, and the instincts and toughness to overcome lack of size. Vilma was the most active linebacker in the nation last season. He has exceptional speed and plays faster than his 40-time indicates because he is so instinctive and has such an impressive second gear. Vilma has the athleticism to match up against most NFL running backs in coverage and is fast and instinctive enough to become an effective blitzer at the next level. Vilma is the top linebacker in this year's class and should come off the board around picks 10-20. |
