Default The top team in the AFC?

The 2014 AFC Championship game was between the,
NE Patriots and DEN Broncos. Final Score DEN 26 NE16.

Tom Brady was off on a number of key throws, but the patriots remained competitive. Once CB Aqib Talib went down with an injury due to a collision with WR Wes Welker, Manning destroyed New England's short handed secondary.

Since that game in 2014....

DENVER:

Signed: Ward, Talib, Ware, Sanders, and Montgomery.

Lost: Cromarti, Decker, Woodyard, Beadles, Holliday, Moreno, Bailey, Ayers, and Phillips.

Drafted: Roby, Latimer, Schofield, Barrow, Nelson, and Paradis.

This year the broncos have one of the most difficult schedules in the NFL, but had 4 great free agency signings. The broncos have also very quietly had a great draft. The broncos also had key starters Clady and Miller out with injuries last year.

NEW ENGLAND:

Signed: Browner, Chung, Hughlett, Hull, Lafell, Revis, and Smith.

Lost: Blount, Talib, Fletcher, Mulligan, and Spikes.

Drafted: Easley, Garoppolo, Stork, White, Fleming, Halapio, Moore, Taylor, Gallon.

The Patriots have a moderately difficult schedule this year. They have signed some great free agents with Revis and Browner. The Patriots draft seemed geared toward the future with the selection of a QB in the 2nd Rnd and many injured players who are high risk/reward players. They also had injuries to key starters Wilfork and what seemed like their entire receiving corps last year.

Other than these top 2 teams in the AFC there is also the:

Ravens
Bengals
Chargers
Chiefs
and the dark horse: the Colts

The Patriots forums are buzzing thinking they will dominate this year, I think their secondary is very interesting. The Colts have an EXTREMELY easy schedule this year and could take the 1st seed. I would like to know what you guys think.

Patriots forums think they'll dominate every year. Nothing new there.

That's the perks of being in a division where not one other team is even competitive

I definitely see Sandy Eggo as a wild card, I don't think KC makes the playoffs and I think the Steelers will be a much better team so the AFCN will be a fun division to watch. Pats win AFCE and who knows about the AFCS, I mean, none of those teams are real scary. The Colts still have a questionable defense...

The only thing that surprised me when I opened this thread was even seeing the chiefs name mentioned anywhere They won't be lucky enough to play fourteen 3rd string qb's and blaine gabbert again.

NE is improved, the secondary can be really good but wont matter if the QB has all day to throw (see: AFCCG)

If Ridley keeps putting the ball on the ground, they have RB concerns like we do.

Vereen is more of receiving type than in-between the tackles type of runner.

They always think they'll dominate, nothing new.

Indy may not be the best team in the AFC but they might get best record because of schedule.

I think the Steelers rebound, and SD is a darkhorse.

KC lost alot of key players and is relying on alot of youth.

Cincy/Baltimore are good teams as well.

Because Joe Flacco of course. Hahahaha....

No in all seriousness when I made this list I realized how much better the NFC is lol.

Besides the Pats and the Broncs who are always in it.... there is either the

Ravens
Colts
Bengals
Chiefs
Chargers
Steelers?
Miami?

I mean really.

The Colts have a joke of a schedule, and I could easily see them snagging the 1st or 2nd seed.

I'd like to see a team like Tennessee come out of no where, punch the Colts in the mouth and win the AFCS. It's not unheard of, this is the NFL after all.

Barring something real strange or a surreal amount of injuries, Denver or NE will win the AFC. I see the NFC as more likely to produce an upset (not SF or Sea), maybe GB.

Until proven otherwise, the Broncos are the best team in the AFC. They have the parts to do it again. And hopefully not lose in the SB.

That would be great.

Not sure why but I am getting a vibe from Arizona. I know...the Cardinals...but they are not horrible.

I can see how the Chuggers could make this list but kFc?

They let their best CB go because they have cap issues and they lost their best tackle, weakened their OL, didn't upgrade the WR position and took guys in the draft at their deepest postion (pass rusher) in order to let Hali and Houston walk next year.

They will be looking up at Oakland this year.

I would not at all be surprised to see the Colts get the 1 seed. But we're still the best team in the conference.

It doesn't matter who is the best team in the offseason, preseason, or regular season. It all comes down to playing well in the playoffs and not playing a bad game that gets you eliminated by an interior team.

From a talent perspective, Denver has clearly the best team in the AFC and in fact the whole league.

I think the AFC East will be much improved this year giving the Pats some competition.

The Broncos won the AFC last year, fairly easily, and between FA additions and getting healthy they have made more upgrades than any other team in the conference.

Broncos additions: Clady, Miller, Ward, Ware, Talib, Sanders, Wolfe, Vickerson, Harris, Moore

They've upgraded 7 out of 11 defensive positions from the roster that went to the SB, and Clady's presence upgrades every player on the OL.

You will loose Hali next year unless he is willing to restructure and why would he?
