Can't access the FT. But no matter. This is what's important.

Note the incredible overkill of our defense budget.....and note the EU vs Russia.

Now why do the EU countries need to spend more when British and French budgets alone already dwarf Russia's?

We should be more concerned with the incredible waste in our own defense budget.
The US needs a defense budget that is the equivalent of the top two most likely combative states, and geared more to fight terrorism. Not us vs the world.

Not the ridiculous budget we are financing now.

Yet it continues to amaze me how republicans scream like somebody kicked them in the balls every time there is a proposal to cut the military budget by even a dime.

They just don't spend as much in soldier care or pay. It's a silly comparison. You have to compare by troop levels, how many planes etc. China building a huge navy right now etc.

And your wrong about it only being republicans. It was Obama and Biden who brought back that really expensive destroyer that Bush cancelled.

Dems in Congress fight just as hard for the military because all the hardware is built in many liberals states like California. You think dems will be happy when military says we are closing these 4 bases in your state? Nope they will fight.

Please dumba$$. Lets see here: Great Britain, France and now Germany are part of Nato, which really means that we pay for their defense. Japan is protected by US. When Saudi Arabia was invaded who did they come crying to?

So you admit to it. Fine. You said our defense budget was "overkill". Well consider the fact that the US is responsible for the defense of FOUR other nations. Plus other that aren't on that list of yours its not overkill.

So which nations does the US take 'defensive' responsibility......other than the mutual treaty obligations withing NATO, which all members share?

I love this. I just mention the entire western part of Europe and that's not enough. Be honest, its never enough.

So you're talking about the US NATO obligations. Every member has them, if the US wants to reduce its share, simply cut the defense budget and insist other members step up. There is no doubt they have taken advantage of the recession to make single digit cuts and Russia has 'upped' its spending to modernize an out-of-date military.

But NATO obligations do not explain the entire bloated budget. Let's start with some of the big ticket items, we are frighting terrorists, not China.

Thankfully, the cuts are beginning.

Talk about stupid. Why do you think that Russia starts this stuff now. Why do you think that Russia did this stuff in Georgia under Bush. Putin knew we were and are now over extended.

Stupid is your claim:

Great Britain, France and now Germany are part of Nato,

Germany joined in 1955

As for cutting the budget, here, use this chart and tell us how big the budget needed to be to deter Putin.

Yes, an economy producing less jobs than people leaving the workforce (this month and EVERY month for the last 4 years) is good. Econ 101, my man...take it.

Take a photo of the economy today at 6.1% UE rate and the last time it was at 6.1% and you'll see a vastly worse economy. But don't bother with actual economics, just blow yourself with a stupid jobs report that doesn't say what you want it to say, rigsy.

How can an economy being doing great when more people than ever are on food stamps, disability, and out of the work force? The Obama ass kissers are bound and determined to ignore all of that, other than blame republicans of course, and live in some fantasy land that we are living some kind of Utopian wonder life with Obama. But they will tell you they are open minded in the next election and won't just vote the "d". I don't know if just trying to kid themselves or what, but they aren't fooling much of anybody else. Obama is not fooling anybody either, low approval numbers and being voted the worst president in modern history by Quinnipiac. But pretend none of this is happening, it's all good folks.

Republicans are a big part of our government right now. They control the House. So what have they done to fix the economy? What program do they recommend?

So I'm curious my fellow WPR posters......

Now that Russia has openly admitted they are sending troops and tanks into Ukraine and is at war. Should the United States arm Ukraine? Are you opposed to the US providing military aide to Ukraine? If so why?

Keep in mind the United States, Russia, and Great Britain signed the Bupdapest Memorandum which said that all countries agreed to protect and recognize Ukraine's borders and security in exchange for Ukraine destroying it's Nuclear Weapons which they did.

I think the government blatantly lies about jobs and inflation, among other things. Every administration engages in this bull****. I don't see changes in my community. In fact, it's getting worse, if anything. I went to the mall yesterday and it was deserted. It was so deserted that it was kind of creepy. Hell, they tell us that inflation is not too bad while food prices have doubled since last year. Their response? "We don't count food."
