Default If you Liked True Detective, you should like Rectify.

You should dig Rectify. It's not a crime drama, but it gets into the characters in same way. Some may find it slow, so if you need explosions, death, zombies, and poontang, to get your attention, it might not do it for you. Don't get me wrong, I dig all of the above.
Ray McKinnon has outdone himself. Make sure and watch the 6 episode first season.

If it doesn't have a scene on par with this Alexandra Daddario scene, it will never be as good as True Detective.

There are just some girls who have way too innocent of a look.
Just filthy things come to mind with regards to her.

Just added it to my queue earlier today after seeing Twitter talk. Looking forward to it! I love the slow dramas, we don’t have enough of those.

Someday we should start a viewer’s club where a bunch of us watching something on a schedule and discuss it. Politics aside there are some smart ****ers in here. Would enjoy further insight.

Maybe something like Game of Thrones. We should warn people in the thread title that there might be spoilers though.

Conincidentally, I think that's also how TheRev likes his coffee.

Goes without saying about spoilers

I tried Games of Thrones for a few episodes. Seemed like trashy nerd stuff to me. Not dissing the fans, just my reaction.

It's a pretty challenging show in several ways, but that's what's awesome about it.

I'm looking forward to the second season of both.

The first season of Rectify was great. Having said that, the premise of the show makes this only good for a couple of seasons. He's trying to reintegrate into society. How long does he need? I'll be eager for the second season, but they should wrap up the story. It's basically a very good movie, stretched out into a TV show...

It's not just that though. He is innocent and has experienced 19 years of cruelty while on death row. He was a odd ball but a sweet soul who was unjustly punished.
It broke him and now he has to pick up the pieces and learn to adjust when he was used to just being.

Haven't seen it yet but I'll check it out since you said it was pretty good.

A series I have really enjoyed the past 2 years is Hannibal. I was not expecting it to be so well written. The dialog was impressive. Sure you have your death and gore but the show really takes dark and creepy to a very high intellect and you are left feeling intrigued rather then disgusted. Season 2 just ended a month ago and it was absolutely sensational. They nailed the cast dead on (no pun intended).

I think there's plenty more going on then his reintegration into society (which if you are caught up has just taken a big setback). It's a bit like other small town murder mysteries shows in that the murder has affected the entire community on multiple levels, and there's plenty to explore there. What makes Rectify different than those other shows is that the murder mystery is almost a secondary concern... it's there, but it's unfolding very slowly. I think there's easily enough material based on what they already introduced for 3-4 seasons, and I wouldn't discount it going on for more...

It's a slow burn type show, honestly I doubt there's another scripted drama paced like this one, but I really appreciate that. It's certainly not for everyone. This is the first original show on the Sundance channel. I haven't watched the other show on the network yet but if Rectify is any indication their brand will be bringing an indie spirit of filmmaking to scripted television. It's good to have another network offering really high quality original programming.

there is no murder mystery. the show point blank tells you who killed the girl, and he's dead.

Eh, no... you aren't watching very closely. The guy who killed himself in the first episode didn't know what happened, but he testified that he did.

he and the other guy were the other two guys around the girl when she died. the guy who is still alive asks the other guy if he did it. that guy says no and then kills himself, at which point the third guy dumps him in the river.
