Okay, looked back and I see what you mean. Yes, there will be a HUGE signing bonus attached to this contract.

Ok well I guess I misunderstood him. I thought he meant agree and sign to a contract that would not go into effect until next season which would be silly.

Bowtown is right. DT may potentially be able to get more money in a couple years if he plays out his rookie deal this year, then get's franchised in 2015. However, if he waits, he could get hurt sometime in the next 2 years, decreasing his value on the open market. Also to consider is that in 2 years he'll be 28.

Plus, where else would he rather be? Like Sanders said, "this is wide receiver heaven".

I get that. I fully expect Elway to put an offer on the table that is very fair (as is his MO) and I expect DT to sign after a little back and forth but I know he would not sign a deal that called for him to play out his rookie deal unless I am misunderstanding something in the post I responded to initially that started this chain of posts.

I think he'll sign for 70 mil for 5 years with 45% guaranteed

They don't play out their rookie deals, the old deal is ripped up. However, it's not like the Broncos are going to go from paying him $3.25M this year to $14. That doesn't make financial sense. Bowtown is right, it's more like an extension. His cap number this year could go up, or down, but I expect that the deal would be pretty seriously back-loaded.

The Broncos would be dumb to give him $14M per year. They have him for a $4.7M cap hit in 2014, and can franchise him for a $12M cap hit in 2015. No reason at all to go beyond those numbers for the next two years.

I'd say they offered him something similar to Bowe's contract 5 years, $55M with the first 2 years fully guaranteed, and the first 3 years guaranteed against injury. Very team friendly. Throw a few mil non-guaranteed on the back-end in negotiations if necessary.

That's for sure.

Tell me do you consider DT a top five receiver? Top three?

NFL had Vincent Jackson over DT last season. I would say top 5 which isn't bad at all.

I think he's definitely top 5 now. He proved it in the Superbowl by performing even with a separated shoulder. The Broncos need him for sure. He now has 3 offseason's with Manning. So many big plays.

Probably his most redeeming quality is his selfless unassuming attitude. I gotta say I'm a big fan. He signed my boy's hat, looked him in the eye, and gave him a high-five. He really cares about kids, kinda like Manning in that respect. He's a real nice dude, and smart. No problems ever. Always in superior shape, never complains, consumate teammate.

Seems weird that the broncos are making this so public, clearly leaking out the details that they have an offer on the table.

DT is definitely top 5. Larry and Calvin are the clear top 2. After that it's a take you pick of several guys. Only Larry and Calvin would I take over DT.

IF they sign him, i would guess it's backloaded a bit.

Also, if he waits.

1- He could get hurt.

2- They'd probably tag him anyway so why not just sign it now and not have to worry about it.

3- He's gonna get 11-14 in AAV anyway regardless of the type of season he has.

I like DT but I don't see him as top 5 WR in this league.

In the top tier:

C Johnson
Larry Fitz
AJ Green
R. White
B Marshall
A. Johnson

Fitz is getting by on recognition. Same for White. Marshall is awesome but DT has more talent. Realistically I say DT is number 3 or 4 depending where you rank Green. Megatron, Johnson, DT, Green, Marshall

I just think DT is step below those guys I listed and is in the tier with Bryant, Cruz, V Jackson, Garcon Alshon Jeffery, Crabtree and Gordon.

I do think his contract should be inline with what Garcon got a couple of years ago.

DT is better than Marshall. More complete game.

Roddy White is good but on the way down.

I'd say that DT is definitely top 10. Top 5...maybe, depends on your offense. I'd say Megatron, Fitz, A.J. Green, and then it's somewhat open....DT, Julio Jones, Josh Gordon, Dez Bryant, BMarsh...etc.

I'd say the four best are Johnson, Green, Bryant, and Marshall
DT is perhaps just below them with like Julio Jones but I think DT will jump in that top tier this year

That list kinda debunks the theory a WR is only as good as his QB makes him. Only 2 WRs out of the top 10 have QBs that are great(Manning and Rogers) Cutler the 3rd best.

Stafford, Ben, Dalton arent terrible.

I'd take Staff/Ben over Cutler.

Cutler almost has 2 players in that top 10. Those guys are average to good, but I wouldn't consider them great

DT is definitely better than Marshall. Marshall is overpaid by the Bears, that contract he got is a head scratcher. He's a number 1 WR but he's not top 5 and it's arguable he's top 10.

+1. If he signs a 5-year extension now, probably 3 of those seasons will be with Osweiler. Who knows, Manning might just have one more season left after this one. If I'm DT, I bet on myself to have a monster year and push this off until next off-season. Manning's intentions should be a little more clear after this season.

If it looks like Manning's going to play a couple more years, sign the deal. If not, go ahead and franchise me. That's still a massive raise from what he's been making, and we'll see where Manning and the Broncos are two years from now. The salary cap is going to continue to go up, and DT will be worth every bit what he's worth now next year or even two years from now, if not a lot more.

Meh, it will likely cost 11-14 a year to keep him regardless provided he's healthy, of course.

Why not sign it now and not have to worry about any contract stuff for the forseeable future?

Also, i'm not sure Brock is the QB after Manning.
