It was huge at that time. It had been quite awhile and people who didn't give a shiat about horse racing were excited. That horse was amazing.

I remember seeing a documentary quite a while back where that claim was made and I repeated it here. It could well be inaccurate. I don't know.

I recall when SI's "Top 100 Athletes of the Century" came out in 2000 - rated Secretariat top 5. I think that's where this idea came from.

Long race with the other Derby competitors chilling in their stables the last few weeks while CC has been pushed. I don't see it.

It's because he dominated in his young career like no other. He lost his first race and two others early. One of them he finished first but was disqualified. He was always in the money. The Belmont was just a glimpse of what could have been. He wasn't allowed to race during his prime. His breeding rights were sold before he ran the triple crown. He usually set a track record in most of his races. He set the track record in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. He set the world record at the Belmont.

This horse may not win the triple but will be the strongest horse out there in the lineup.

I'd bet him to win.

Correct. Horses have masks on when they race, you an even see that in the video. They also wear numbers.

Interesting fact. No horse has won triple crown in Belmont with more than 7 horse field. There are 11 today.

There was another mile and a half race earlier today for older horses that run Beyer figures of around 100 in 2:27.13. If California Chrome runs his last race and wins the race, the final time should be about 2:26.6.

California Chrome? Chrome at Los Alamitos? I don't follow horse racing too much but this being a California horse from not pedigree breed makes a great story for me.

With the SI curse, you sure he didn't die right after being on the SI Cover?
