I have a feeling the rules will be changed. I know the last horse to go for the triple crown had the same issue, though he had to pull out with a leg injury. I just cant imagine the belmont refusing a triple crown threat a chance over something so stupid.

I'm pulling for Chrome. He won the last race at Hollywood Park, and I already miss that ****hole.

I think its good for the sport. Brings it more into mainstream when there's a triple crown chance.

Still gives me chills to watch that Belmont when Secretariat absolutely destroyed the field. If you don't get chills watching that, you got no soul.

If he didn't race the Belmont they aren't going to risk him in a race in OC. He has one race left in him and that is July 7 or nothing. His stud fees are worth too much to risk in OC. I could see them pulling him as you mentioned and put him into retirement.

We're you alive or old enough back then? It's hard for me to get chills about a sporting event when I was still just a thought in my Dad's mind.

The owner mentioning the Los alomitos derby leads me to believe there's a slim and kooky chance with how this owners mind works. Dude didnt even go to the Preakness cause he felt disrespected by the downs.

I would love another triple crown winner, it's been 36 years since the last one, that's too long to wait IMHO.

No I wasn't alive, but I think going back and watching or reading epic events well before your time is very cool. I love history and sporting history especially.

There are 2 owners, 1 of them (Co-owner Steve Coburn) was at the Preakness.

I'd love to see it, but it's a tough bargain. The three race stretch over 7 weeks is a grind and there are usually a number of entries into the Belmont who have just been resting up for a couple of months in prep for it while any Triple Crown candidate has had to run two races and go through all the travel from Kentucky to Maryland to New York.

I wish that there was a requirement to run in either the Derby or the Preakness in order to run in the Belmont. I'll be pulling for Chrome in a few weeks; it would be great to see the Triple Crown won again, and it would be an awesome story to see a horse bought for chump change beat all the ponies that people pay millions for.

That horse is the most dominant individual in sports history.

It doesn't matter how many horses were left in his wake. He won by 27 lengths over his rival, Sham. He set the record on 1 1/2 dirt and it still stands by a full second today.

Most owners felt they had no chance so why even run.

In horse racing maybe( Man O War always comes up as the consensus #1 when voted on) I wouldn't go as far as individual sports. He was 16-3-1 but there were athletes that dominated for a much longer period of time.

Seriously? People still follow a bunch mammals strapped in leather running around a track?

I didn't I picked shecky greene as my 3 horse he ended up in 6th place.
Interesting facts; the same 3 horses ran 1-2-&3 in the Derby and Preakness.
Secretariat, Sham, and Our Native. I wonder what the odds of that happening are.

Secretariat's Belmont time is 2.24 flat, electrically timed. The next closest is Easy Goer at 2.26 flat.

Yes they do, and in some places they like watching beetles fight, in other places they like watching frogs jump. If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. The world would be a pretty boring place if we all thought alike.

Isn't that just stunning? 31 damn lengths. Fricken amazing performance. Set a new record and I just wonder how hard those other 4 were pushing when they saw Secretariat soooooo far ahead. You saw Sham right up there with them and they both were 12 lengths ahead of everybody at the 2nd turn and then boom, Sham got left in the dust and faded back to the group and it was history.

This is from his historical performance at the Belmont.

Here's the Belmont scene from the movie. It's kick ass, right up to the point where they cut from the thundering hooves and snorting nostrils and start with that that crap ass gospel music. Talk about your wrong choice of music. It should have been something instrumental only and lightly in the background, enhancing the sound of those pounding hooves. Not "oh happy day" cranked up, talk about ruining that scene. They had it nailed right at 2:42 with that loud pound and then wham, those hooves and snorting. Should have kept with that. But no, 5 seconds later, here comes oh happy day. Hollywood idiots.

While I agree that Secretariat is among the greatest sports figures ever, that picture is definitely not from the Belmont; or any race of his. That's a pic from an exercise ride.
