If they dont keep DT, why pay anyone then?

DT is the 4th or 5th most important player, has been great the last 2 years, even with Tebow he did well.

Latimer is good but he does nothing in regards to keeping DT or not.

Thats foolish talk.

I'm not sure I buy the idea Latimer was viewed as a 4th round talent that all of a sudden jumped right before the draft

I think a lot of the mock drafts and media's view of a player have less to do with actual scouting and more to do with finding out information from actual NFL scouts about where a player is supposed to go

I think that has more to do with a player "rising" and "falling" than the combine and supposed film study weeks before the draft

They have plenty of cap to keep DT, and 2-3 others.
The way I see is this.

Manning has 2 more years on his contract after this year. DT will only be turning 27 in December this year. He has a long career ahead of him.

If Manning retires this season we obviously have the funds to resign DT.

If Manning doesn't retire - do you think he's really going to be ok with losing his #1 WR that's he'd built 3 seasons with? You think Broncos would be ok with their SB chances without DT? You think Manning would be ok with their SB chances without DT?

If Broncos can't sign DT due to $ - I'd think Manning takes a pay cut considering he'd only have 2 more years to play - and it'd only be worth while to play if he he has his guys.

DT's contract could even be structured for big portion of money to be in the 2 seasons after Manning's contract ends.

Sorry about the family passing, hope all is good.

Depending on health of some of our IR players, not too shabby of a team

Well it was that and they sw him having coffee with Elway. Just that alone will move a guy up two rounds.

Cody Latimer learns from Peyton Manning

LOS ANGELES Cody Latimer was all ready to play his first-ever round of golf this week alongside a fellow member of the Denver Broncos' rookie class something that would be a fun, no-pressure environment for a guy who had never even swung a golf club.

Peyton Manning had other plans.

"They told me I was already taken, that No. 18 had asked for me," Latimer said.

Indeed, Manning got to choose his foursome for the team's annual golf outing earlier this week, and the quarterback picked three of the newest teammates Latimer, free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, and third-round pick offensive tackle Michael Schofield.

"It was just an honor that he wanted to get to know me," Latimer told USA TODAY Sports on Friday evening at the NFL Players Association Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles. "And then he also taught me how to play golf. He didn't know till we got there that I had never golfed."

So what sort of impression did Latimer make on the links?

"We did good. We shot two under," he said.

It was a scramble format, and Latimer was proud to say he excelled with his driver enough so that the group played off his tee shot several times. Now Latimer is hooked, and he plans on buying his first set of clubs soon.

Latimer relished the bonding time with Manning on the course, especially since his time on the field with Manning has been limited because of a joint fracture in his foot, an injury he suffered while training for the draft.

He said he has been cleared for limited participation in the Broncos' offseason program, including participating in individual drills. He said he's able to run routes, but the team is choosing to ease him slowly back into practices this spring. Latimer was excused from Denver's three practices this week so he could attend the rookie premiere.

Latimer knows he's in a similar situation as teammate Demaryius Thomas, who was also recovering from a broken bone in his foot when the Broncos drafted him in 2010, and Sanders, who dealt with broken bones in both his feet earlier in his career.

"[Thomas] told me to take it easy, don't rush into it. He said it's going to bother me a little bit, and it's one of those injuries that takes a while to heal," Latimer said.

I'm pretty sure Latimer was brought in to replace Decker and Sanders was brought in to replace Wes next year. DT will get his big pay day here and deserving so, but I think Elway and Co. Like big receivers on the outsides with a speedy slot guy like Sanders. This year I think DT, Sanders, and Wes will be the top 3 receivers, but next year it will be DT, Latimer, and Sanders as the top 3 receivers not counting OJ of course.

Gase on Latimer;

Latimer, 6'3, 215 pounds, has the same size as Decker, can play a very similar role as the departed veteran, and he has the speed to be the vertical threat that Decker was with better with yards after the catch ability.

"He's a physical specimen, and when he plays, he plays his size," Gase said, via Rob rang of CBS Sports.

"To see him catch the ball as well as he does and then his blocking is unbelievable. I don't think I've really seen a college guy go after it the way he has in the past, and hopefully he just carries that over to this level."

Watching him develop is going to be hella sweet. He has a bright future ahead of him provided he remaining humble, hard working and injury free.

Latimer relished the bonding time with Manning on the course, especially since his time on the field with Manning has been limited because of permanent nerve damage in his arm, an injury he suffered 10 years ago in a car accident which left him with a claw for a hand and unable to catch a football.

He said he was surprised anyone would pick him after watching his claw hand drop passes in limited participation in the combine this offseason. The team is choosing to throw away lots of time and money hoping his claw hand will develop into a form where passes will wedge between his nerve damaged arm and body then ease him slowly back into practices this spring. Latimer was excused from Denver's three practices this week so he could have his claw hand amputated and replaced with a hook.

Latimer knows he's in a similar situation as some pirate dude he saw in Pirates of the Caribbean, who was also recovering from amputation and hook appendage screwed into his bone for the 2010 movie, as well as some dude named Darrius Watts.

"[Thomas] told me to take it easy, don't rush into it. He said it's going to bother me a little bit, and it's one of those injuries that takes a while to heal," Latimer said.

Is there a football player anywhere that understands you must keep the sun to your back and on the faces of your subject if you want anything like a decent photo?
