Supposedly he did it in January. Just on an excerise run.

This article backs up what DB is saying:

Quote:
Impressive enough that he's now broken into the first round in most recent draft projections for this coming Saturday. That may come as a surprise to some. Latimer finished at IU with second team All-Big Ten honors and here in Bloomington, we knew what he was. However, the NFL gurus all had him as a late round pick in initial season ending mocks.

Despite battling a foot injury, Latimer is likely the hottest stock in the draft as of now. Going from projected late round to back end of the first in just a few short months is impressive.

He was projected as a 4-5 round pick by just about every site until about 2 weeks after his pro day.
From NFL.com to NFL Draft Scout/CBS.
Only after that 40 time did he spring up the draft boards.
Hell even then he was still seen as a 2nd rounder until a bit closer to the draft when Macshay and others started putting him in the first and saying they were impressed by his film.

- He was voted team MVP
- Rarely dropped a pass
- Explosive vertical leap at 39 inches
- 72 catches for 1,096 yards while running an injured foot
- Gets great body positioning on jump ball to box out defenders

Combine that with his ability to dip/burst out of his cuts and limited experience then it's pretty clear he has a lot more room to get better since he worked mostly with short passes and has the size/speed to genuinely beat press coverage off the jam at the NFL level.

He jumped, we even talked all about it in the OM mock draft.
Most were shocked he went as high as he did.

Thanks for posting that. I sort of see the Anquan Boldin comparisons. Hopefully Latimer has a similar rookie season.

Jumped according to who? Draft pundits? Yeah right, those guys get a lot of their info when scouts/coaches start getting together after the season to sort through prospects.

Those pundits also talk to scouts during the year. Even rumor guys were talking about Latimer moving up closer to the draft.

What the hell are you guys arguing about?

He was invited to the draft in NYC. That should tell you all you need to know. That piece of information alone is worth more than all your mock drafts and draft boards.

For every prospect? Especially guys who weren't anticipated to declare for the draft like Latimer?

Right.

Yep. Regardless of where he started out, by the time the draft rolled around he was seriously being looked at as a first-round pick.

Tom Savage was also invited to the NFL draft this year.

So does that mean he's going to be pummeling defences with a flying elbow from the top rope?

I'll be more clear - Latimer was invited and ACCEPTED the invite to NYC.

My entire point was did he rise solely on a 40 time? Cause everyone knew his drop ratio, route ability, blocking skills, etc before that 40 time. None of those measurables moved the needle much. A 40 time happens and bam, he rose up fast.

This.

Latimer has ZERO affect on DT's potential contract.

It will cost a lot one way or the other.

They have plenty of cap to keep DT, and 2-3 others.

I skimmed through the last few pages and felt as if people were talking about where he was ranked pre-draft. Seeing the Tom savage post tells me there was some of that.

And yes you can **** me as long as you deep throat my long shablang 1st.

All I am really trying to point out is what a brilliant draft pick by Elway because it makes sense on so many levels. Creates so much flexibility.
If they dont keep DT, why pay anyone then?

DT is the 4th or 5th most important player, has been great the last 2 years, even with Tebow he did well.

Latimer is good but he does nothing in regards to keeping DT or not.

Thats foolish talk.

I'm not sure I buy the idea Latimer was viewed as a 4th round talent that all of a sudden jumped right before the draft

I think a lot of the mock drafts and media's view of a player have less to do with actual scouting and more to do with finding out information from actual NFL scouts about where a player is supposed to go

I think that has more to do with a player "rising" and "falling" than the combine and supposed film study weeks before the draft

The way I see is this.

Manning has 2 more years on his contract after this year. DT will only be turning 27 in December this year. He has a long career ahead of him.

If Manning retires this season we obviously have the funds to resign DT.

If Manning doesn't retire - do you think he's really going to be ok with losing his #1 WR that's he'd built 3 seasons with? You think Broncos would be ok with their SB chances without DT? You think Manning would be ok with their SB chances without DT?

If Broncos can't sign DT due to $ - I'd think Manning takes a pay cut considering he'd only have 2 more years to play - and it'd only be worth while to play if he he has his guys.

DT's contract could even be structured for big portion of money to be in the 2 seasons after Manning's contract ends.
