The major reason that a lot of Chinese restaurant are dirtier than most is because the cost of food is disproportional to the cost of preparing the food, and minimal staff. Crappy Chinese food can always be found at PF Changs. Cleanest place ever! |

What I was trying to say is when eating-out I always make sure the place is clean. If an establishment can't keep a public restroom clean I can imagine the coolers and kitchen. When Health Departments pop up surprisingly and grade the quality of cleanliness they can be unfair(ie. these glasses are stacked improperly or the dishwasher is too hot). But the only reason for a closure or downgrade is cockroaches. |

![]() I love me some pasta...
![]() BTW, "Mexican" is currently leading the way. Would that be TRUE Mexican food, or AMERICANIZED Mexican food? Taco Bell doesn't count... ![]() |

![]() Las Vegas has a decent sized China/Korea Town with amazing food, KJ Kitchen comes to mind. My point was I love Chinese food but many of the places do not care for the overall cleanliness of the product.

![]() I get it. It can be a turn off to be eating at a dirty place. I'm just saying that "some" good food can be found in some "dirty" places. Best places in general, regardless of flavor, are the "hole in the wall" places.

![]() If you walk into a bbq joint in the south, and it's impeccably clean, consider walking out. It's likely to suck. Although there is a big difference from having that classic "hole in the wall" type feel, and being completely disgusting.

![]() I love me some German food. I haven't found a restuarante that serves real German food here in the states, but man I wish I could go back over there right now.
However, I can make currywurst pretty close to the Germans. Knockwurst sold here in the states is about as close as you can get to the same taste of their pork. |

![]() I'm not sure off the top of my head about what are some staples of French food but I know they like cooking with creams, and lot's of it.

![]() Right! A lot of these places are run by mom and pop and there isn't the staff to keep everything clean and picture perfect. And I not say its ok to have a rat run pass you. That's gross. But I think its ok if there are a few dust bunnies in the far corner.

![]() Places don't have to be spotless as long as the food is handled properly and storage areas are clean. These are things that are mainly tested, anything else is nitpicking.

![]() Hard to classify "Middle Eastern" as a single type of food... thats like putting Sushi, Korean BBQ, Pho, Polynesian, and Chinese as "Asian."
You've got Israeli, Lebanese, Moroccan, Ethiopian, and Persian that are all distinct. |

![]() I would check all of the above.
I've really been about Pho (Vietnamese) recently. Beef Carpaccio is delicious. I like Sushi. |

![]() You haven't had exotic authentic cuisine until you've been to a powwow/softball tournament. Brown beans, ham, frybread, hominy, and red Kool aid +/- whiskey served potluck style from galvanized tubs. This is my people's culinary contribution to the world. You are welcome.

![]() It's funny reading about American Chinese food earlier in this thread. It's the same in every country. Korean Chinese food tastes nothing like American Chinese or Chinese Chinese food. There is actually a restaurant here in Denver's little Korea-town that serves Korean Chinese food that is pretty good.

![]() Not sure I've ever had any authentic non-American food so don't know. On my list to visit a few places overseas so I will know then.
I certainly like Americanized "Chinese", "Thai", "Italian", etc. though. |

![]() I know, I just wasn't familiar enough with it to break it up, but whichever one it was I had, was good. Also Ethiopian is not middle-eastern, its sub-saharan African.
