Soy-Lemon Flank Steak with Arugula

This inexpensive cut of meat makes excellent use of one mighty marinade: The combination of olive oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, and brown sugar assures a nice caramelized crust and deepens the flank’s flavor — so it tastes like a much more expensive cut. The marinade sees the dish all the way through, too, since it gets boiled and poured over the thinly sliced meat, which is then finished with peppery arugula and more zesty lemon juice.

Related: Pucker Up: 25 Ways to Get Sweet on Rhubarb

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (from 2 lemons)
2 tablespoons packed light-brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, smashed
1 1/2 pounds flank steak
1/2 bunch arugula (about 2 ounces), leaves torn if large
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
Lemon wedges, for serving

1. Whisk together oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, and garlic in a bowl. Place flank steak inside a gallon-size resealable plastic bag. Add marinade, press out excess air, and seal. Let stand, turning bag occasionally, at least 1 hour at room temperature, or up to 6 hours in refrigerator (if refrigerating, let come to room temperature before grilling).

No buffets but there are a few places that offer Hot Pots. There is a place up north Emperors Palace. I think Superstar off Federal and Alameda.

You can find just about anything off of Alameda and Federal- usually when I get hot pot it's at Kingsland over there- I tend to prefer it over Superstar. Thanks for the heads up on Emperors Palace though- that's a new one to me.

I didn't know that Kingsland had it. I should try it out. Thanks for the heads up.

P.S. We shouldn't be talking like this. Broncocalijohn might think I'm flirting or something.

The funny thing is, all the options listed in the poll above are, in fact, American food. Such is the nature of America.

Just make sure you call ahead when wanting hot pot from them. How do I say this... sometimes they can be a bit finicky when I've shown up and requested it.

Spoken like a true Dem/lib. All those choices have been "Americanized", they are NOT American. If you guys were as open minded as you say you are you would have known that Orange Chicken isn't Chinese.

I'm pretty sure it's not. I'm Chinese and they treat us like $h!t too. Tonight I went to emperors palace and got the hot pot for three people. Couldn't finish it there was so much food. It was a little pricey for $60. But I was satisfied.

c'mon, three people stuffed and great food. how can u beat that!

i found the best thing when it comes to chinese restaurants is that most of them are byob.

chinese and vietnamese service is the worst. they act like they are doing you a favor. here is an example

i ordered a smoothie at a viet place. while i wait i see the same smoothie i ordered gets taken to another table. wait a little more than i go up to the cashier and ask him where my smoothie is. He looks as me, looks at the other table where the smoothie was delivered. He goes up to that table says something and takes the smoothie away. He comes backs and gives it to me. You can tell on the straw that the smoothie has been drank out of. I look at the guy amazed and tell him to look at the straw. he said sorry, grabbed the straw threw it in the trash and gave me a new straw. at that point i just laughed and walked away.

. Sounds about right. Last week I was in LA with family. 13 people $180 tab. They missed one dish that didn't get served til the end of the meal. As the tradition Chinese don't order dessert but is served at the end of a large tab. The waiter came by and said in Chinese "(translation) You want some of that free dessert." As if we were doing him a favor. I wanted to put my foor through his throat.

Yeah, that's what I've heard but it's on par with other Brazilian steakhouses- I'm assuming they still have the same all you can eat format for lunch?
