He will tie the league up in litigation and still lose.

Freedom of speech doesn't come into play here. Hell, I can walk into my office and say anything I want to. Doesn't mean I won't get fired.

New commish doesn't play, I like it.

Intertesting...I wonder how he would manage it. if he has to sell they've de-valued the team. I also wonder what is an acceptable amount to consider. Seems crazy.

He had to do this, there's no way you can let the brand take a hit like that. The outrage and backlash would have been incredible.

I applaud Silver on his decisions.
Quick, severe, and fitting.

Screw that racist a-hole. He's getting a small taste of what he deserves here.

No. The NBA is a private organization and enjoys anti trust exemptions.
As such when they make a bylaw on integrity it has to be followed.
His comments portend views of discrimination and the past allegations back that up.
This is no different than ousting a CEO for discrimination or harassment.

He will get a severance package and that will be it.

They have two options. The league itself can buy the team from Sterling and then re-sell it. Similar to the Hornets.
Or they can force the sell the team to approved ownership group.
Remember, the league has to ratify any new ownership group.

Not severe enough punishment. Force him to buy the Raiders.

I loved Silver's reaction when asked if Sterling may end up being a absentee owner if the league doesn't vote him out.
He looked at the dude stone faced as hell and said that he expects to have the support to force the sale.

the owners vote will be interesting if made public. What owner in their right mind says 'No' to ousting him?

Mark Cuban sounded like a no vote.

Finally, someone with a spine.

I get the feeling Silver's been waiting for a reason to remove this turd for a long time but couldn't because of Stern.

Just heard on the radio that he's banned from all activities and they are going to try and force him to sell the team.

His stance was the potential slippery slope the ouster would cause.
But since this is a discrimination issue it will not really set a bad precedent.

Good to hear. I may be in the minority, but I got a lot of respect for Cuban.

This is really the saddest part of the story. (not the saddest, but just adds to it)

The rich racist is forced to sell and make 1.2 billion dollars or so.

The fun hasn't even started yet. This is just an opening salvo. Sterling got his start as a lawyer before moving into real estate. His camp will regroup and counter-sue very quickly. As others have mentioned, I would not be surprised in the least if Silver can get enough NBA owners to back his play. Even if a few of them share some of his despicable opinions, they are business men who have seen the NBA pull a financial 180 in the last three years. They have a massive TV contract on the horizon and they are not about to let one Racist old idiot screw it up for them.

There is that. Dude may decide he doesn't want to spend his last years dealing with the fallout.

This is good for the league and good it's been done before the game tonight.

Now, if he's forced to sell move them to another city. There's no point in having two in LA.
