MUG, Gaines may be the best CB in the draft, time will tell, but he will probably be there in the second, why reach @31?
I think Gaines goes between 25 and 40, won't make it to us, and after he goes, there's not another CB I love. There's a decent chance he has jumped Verrett and Roby.

No. He's played every game the last two years and in 2009/2010. He did miss 7 games in 2011 with a broken foot. He's not remotely a zone CB, he's one of the best man coverage CB prospects you'll ever see on tape. Watch my video in my selection thread for a quick idea.

If they do take him I won't have time to melt down. I will be at work.
It will not make me happy though.

I like Gaines but value wise that is too damn high to take him.

So it becomes the issue, do we trade up in a deep draft since accumulating picks is not a wise investment.
I think you are right on this. To me, I think if there is a blue chipper available in the 1st for reasonable trade value, you move up and get him. OTOH, if that is not possible, and there isn't a lot of difference between the guys available @ 31 and the guys in the mid part of the 2nd round, then move back.

But you are right about guys taken after the 4th round that may not make the team, so why not use the extra picks you got and the 5th thru 7th picks to move up within the 3rd and 4th rounds?

Guys like Gaines are definitely top 40 prospects. I think you're right on this one, even though I haven't considered this previously. I liked his video. He seemed like one of those super-raw incredible athletes that you would meet at a park in Houston, so I kind of dismissed him.

But 27 passes defensed over the last 2 years. Yikes. Yeah, I could get on board with that real quick like.

3. 3RDE (if Quant Smith can't come back from injury)
4. LB Reserve (unless you think Brandon Marshall or Lerentee McCray are good enough to fill that role if Trev is hurt)
5. 5WR (probably need someone who can replace Welker next year)
6. At least one more OL reserve (who could replace Franklin next year)
7. another RB
This seems about right but i would throw out DE for DT.

It didn't mention any names, so I don't know if the Broncos are one of them, but if Elway wanted to move up that would be a possibility. #17 would give the Broncos many options to choose from rather than settling for possible scraps left over at #31.

According to the NFL value chart, fair value to move up 14 spots would be our 2nd, 4th, & 5th round picks. I don't know that Elway would do it particularly in this deep draft, but it is a possibility and doable if he wanted to.

I would assume Mosley or one of the stud CB's would be available there at #17, but the question is, are they worth giving up 3 picks to get them?
No, No, No.

We'd have to give up our 1st, 3rd, and maybe a later pick, too much when we're already limited in picks as it is.

I'd only move up if it's a 4-6 spot jump and costs a 4th or 5th to secure someone the FO wants (Shazier, Mosely, Fuller)

Similar to what Atl did to get Trufant last year.

Dennard, Easley, and a coverage LB (Telvin Smith, Jordan Tripp, Pierre-Louis) and I would be ecstatic!

Where does Telvin Smith get drafted? His value is hard to project because he's a bit of a tweener, I love him as a prospect though. Team leader, productive, really instinctive. I see some Kam Chancellor in him for sure.

But where would he play? FS in base packages and OLB in nickel?

I really hope we draft the kid.

Not too shabby.

Similar to Meds draft in the OM mock, but I liked his pick of Davante Adams more than Landry at 63. A running back the caliber of Carey at 131 would be sweet, though....

Landry in the second is gross, otherwise that isn't a bad draft. I just don't see how we can ignore DB/LB early.

Sua'Filo's only position is Guard. Sounds like a colossal waste of draft capital to pick a Guard in the 1st, then red-shirt him. No thanks.

Orlando Franklin will be starting at LG this year. Not sure why that's so difficult for some people to understand.

Carey would come in and take Montee's job. Not sure the guard pick makes sense now.

I think he's best suited for OLB, somewhere in the second-third round range.

Easley wont be there when we pick, and unless Dennard shoots someone before the draft, he wont be there either.

Hell, Easley may not be there when we pick at 31.
